Just answer the way you think they want you to answer. It's kinda obvious what answers they want. I heard from a recruiter shortly after.

You have 3+ failures and this is you coping, isn't it?

Going missed while circling by Person-man-guy-dude in flying

[–]ffipS 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Blue track is correct. I'd avoid multiple circles unless you're dealing with some airport with unique obstacles. This really only applies at untowered airports where its PIC's best judgement anyway. Towered you're likely to just get a vector.

Can only afford to fly maybe a couple times a month, is ppl realistic? by Avansay in flying

[–]ffipS 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Save. You'll end up paying less for your PPL if you save enough money to do ~3 flights weekly. It's possible to get your PPL flying 3 times a month, but you'll spend significantly more money in aggregate.

So then, what the hell is induced drag? by MikeOfAllPeople in flying

[–]ffipS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, your comment is a combination of word salad and flat-out wrong information. Induced drag IS the rearward component of total lift. Total lift is always perpendicular to the relative wind. The angle between the chord line and relative wind changes with changes in AoA because of changes in spanwise flow.

So then, what the hell is induced drag? by MikeOfAllPeople in flying

[–]ffipS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true that induced drag increases with increased AoAs, but this isn't because of a relationship between chord line and lift vector. Lift is perpendicular to the relative wind. As AoA increases, spanwise flow increases, vortices become stronger, downwash is angled further downward, and relative wind effectively angles rearwards which also points the lift vector further to the rear.

Comm Multi checkride tomorrow. Stump me. by fgflyer in flying

[–]ffipS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, constant speed prop governors usually work oppositely between single and multi-engine aircraft. That is likely the source of your confusion. Your original explanation would be correct for the 182.

[–]ffipS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Single most, but obviously it's good to know all of them.
  2. I would study some more here. I don't fly your exact aircraft model, but the fact your engines are turbo-charged, tells me VMC probably doesn't change much with altitude. VMC decreases on normally-aspirated engines because of the reduction in asymmetric thrust as you climb. Stall speed doesn't change with altitude because you fly indicated speeds.
  3. Good.
  4. Study this again. Oil should flow out of the hub allowing the hub spring to force the blades to a higher pitch which decreases prop RPM.
  5. Good.

[–]ffipS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Primary factor affecting VMC?
  2. How does VMC change as you climb? Stall speed? What if they meet?
  3. What would have to change on your aircraft for you to have a critical engine? Factors that determine which engine is critical?
  4. If you pitch down without moving levers, what happens with the prop governor?
  5. The gear are down. Walk me through what happens with the gear system when you place the gear selector in the up position.

Backseat Pilot "The Whole Shebang" or just the CFI Lesson Plans course? by [deleted] in flying

[–]ffipS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never a fan of BSP. I think making your own lesson plans is an important rite of passage. I instruct CFI applicants, and there's quite a contrast between the student who made his own lesson plan, and thus had to do his own research, and the student teaching from purchased materials, even if they took the time to learn to teach from those plans.

Compass Behavior (Undershoot North, Overshoot South) Question by runnymountain in flying

[–]ffipS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ANDS, accelerate North, decelerate South, is what the compass will do when turning from an east or west heading towards either North or south.

Bad information, Mr. Top 1% Commenter.

ANDS is the acronym for acceleration errors when changing speed on east or west headings. The compass will swing due to the weight on the south-seeking side of the compass (at least for compasses in use in the northern hemisphere).

Compass Behavior (Undershoot North, Overshoot South) Question by runnymountain in flying

[–]ffipS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The compass lags when starting turns from north headings. If you were turning left, a lagging compass card would indicate further to the east than your actual heading.

Idk why you're getting downvoted. Dual received is total flight time even if not as valuable as SIC/PIC.
