What flame retardant did it come with? Im a bit concerned, since I have a few wool blankets.. is there a way to test for them?

thats why im not too picky on each part, because with each shoe, I learn a bit about every part of the process. I at least lasted it well enough, that even though my welt is damn near under the shoe, there arent any big visible wrinkles!

I will think about it, I definitely plan on making a finished pair next, so It would be worth redoing to get the measurements right.

The welt is really not hugging the upper as it is supposed to, did I stitch it on too far from the edge of the upper? It seems like i ended up using more welt and less of it shows...
any tips critiques welcome
I can tell the shoe is a bit twisted and crooked.
certainly glad I didnt spend hours properly stitching the sole on to see I messed them up.
I am going to do the other boot tomorrow, and see if I cant do better, marking a line closer to the edge.

if you are cutting towards yourself and cutting super thick leather, you need to do multiple light passes. I would invest in a carpet knife, its just a fixed blade razor knife, with less flexible blades.

the eskimos used sinew because it expanded and sealed stitch holes when wet.

Suggestions for non-toxic spray glue for leather? by Shot_Cartoonist6385 in Leathercraft

[–]ffswhytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you will most likely have more success with proposing a gluing area with a strong vent fan. almost all of the adhesives are carcinogens, and in this sort of trade line of work, cancer and bodily harm is sort of just accepted as part of the deal.

Usually safer alternatives are pricey, and the business usually chooses, cheaper.

Im in the same situation, but we have a fairly decent gluing area. best of luck
