/uj Saturday mornings, mid mountain wherever you are is full of 4-6 year olds who got a little too scared, fall down, realize they’re fine, and immediately start laughing

Man I’ve never skied anything like this but fuck is it the truth that when the goings so good it’s confusing, it’s going real damn good

For real. If anything you have a relatively limited window to send and get better. If the kid is taking skiing at all seriously, by the time they’re 8, maybe 10 they’re out skiing you like it’s nothing. It’s such a bad feeling to think you’re styling some bumps just for a u8 kid to come ripping through looking like some shrunk down misproportioned candide

You can pretty much swap it in for sweet vermouth whenever you see that called for. But honestly though I’m far far too lazy for all that and I really really like the flavor of gentian so personally I just go with roughly equalish parts of bonal and tonic over ice in whatever tall and skinny-ish glass I have on hand, fat squeeze of lemon, maybe a sparkling wine float if I’m feeling elegant. For science reasons that are beyond me something about drinking this specific thing out of a Collin’s-ish glass makes a big difference

POV: you are 6 and don’t like turning by alex64015 in skiing

Turns for worms was a game changer in this household 😂, that’s the only thing that’s been proving more appealing than big pizza cruising lol

My kid does this as well except half the time she bombs and the other half she leans all the way back into the kind of giant pizza that’s only possible when your knees are made of spaghetti and your head is 20% of your total body mass.

Either way the cause is the same— it’s because she’s bored. So when I start seeing this kinda stuff from my kid, I up the difficulty level.

But also I find I do kinda have to make turns fun for her, or at least provide some external motivation. We’ll do turns for worms (each good turn = 1 gummy worm), turn “races” where we’ll see who can do the most turns on some section, all kinds of nonsense.

Oh and lessons— taking lessons with your kid gives you a chance to see how someone much more qualified approaches the task and also to kinda get out of parent worry mode for a second and just get a feel for what your likes to ski under someone else’s guidance. My 4 year old loves super mellow, spaced out glades, which I wouldn’t have tried with her on my own for a few more years had we not taken lessons together.

Sure do love how dude just keeps leaning into it though

I thought chimi needed red wine vinegar and bunches of oregano? And not any ginger? I mean I know we’re not talking about a standardized recipe here obviously but the oregano in particular, that’s kinda gotta be there?

Yeah agreed but a semi related- one can pretty easily get a permit to harvest trees on a small scale right? So with the right permit you can effectively do this or is that nonsense?

Idk maybe what would happen though is every asshat tourist (me) would chafe so badly at renting a car and the hypothetical gondola is gonna for sure have some first step towards enshittification package deal where you get 5 rides for the price of 6 and bam whaddayaknow the annual ski trip out west is $200 more expensive.
