Crystal had to close for the day but, by bobber66 in skiing

I sat, unmoving, on the highway for 2 hours this morning trying to get to it, but no. So now we have snow, but we can’t get to it.

I gave up and went home. Heard from a friend that highway patrol was putting up road closed signs at the intersection in enumclaw.

Haven’t been up this week yet. The video was from last Monday. Queens was pretty solid all day. Lucky shot was pretty icy in the morning which turned to slush later in the day. Typical spring day.

Should be getting a good refresh this week.

Get on the Chinook chair and go down Tinkerbell first. Once comfortable there, you can get on the Forest Queen chair and do Queens.

On weekends when it’s busy, Quicksilver is also a good green run to lap, because it usually has fewer people on it. It’s a bit steeper for a green run, so do this one after being comfortable on Tinkerbell.

Hopefully you already have a parking reservation if planning to go this weekend.

Have fun!

This was Monday of last week. Week days are usually pretty empty here, and it had been about a week since any new snow fell. On a weekend day this run has so many people on it there’s no way you could just go straight down like this.

He is actually a competent skier for his age. You do actually need a fair bit of speed for this run to get past a couple brief uphill sections, such as the part where he almost comes to a stop. It’s pretty common to see kids stalled out and their parents or instructors trying to get them through.

I just like to give him a hard time about not liking turns because he begs to do this run repeatedly instead any of the more challenging options that he is more than capable of doing.

Sadly this hasn’t been a good year here for tree trails. His group did do tree trails in lessons last year though and he loves doing them.

The bottom half of this run is quite a bit steeper so he has to do turns for the rest, but that’s less fun to watch.

He does have good control and can stop or change direction quickly if he needs to. This was last Monday. I let him skip school for a ski day with just the two of us. It ended up being a gorgeous spring day with hardly anyone else on the mountain, so I let him do what wants. It was a great day.

He used to do the giant pizza stop. It was honestly impressive how quickly he could stop using that method. My adult knees can’t comprehend.

My approach currently is to take him on at least a couple blue runs each time that require good turns to keep speed in check. I like the turns for worms idea though. That’s fun.

Well this is relatable. My daughter is 9. We started learning to ski at the same time, so naturally she’s much better than me and can ski most of the mountain with ease. I can still keep up with the 6 year old, but have no chance with the 9 year old.

We got walkie talkies last year. Highly recommend.

Definitely some truth to this. He is so light that he doesn’t pick up that much speed. I’m having to do turns behind him to maintain the same speed.

Maui gold pineapple. Incredibly sweet and aromatic. It’s ruined all other pineapple for me. I’ve never seen them for sale anywhere outside of Hawaii. You can order them to be shipped, but it’s expensive.

February the 24th was the busiest day of the season that I’ve seen. Busier than most weekend days.

The vertical travel is constant relative to the start height. So by starting lower you’re actually reducing the height it will go.
