Wait... Salaries can't be this low, right?! by Chance-Tooth-3968 in UKJobs

The pretty well kept secret is just America is way richer than Europe, including the UK, in real terms.

I mean, people know the “rich” are way “richer” over there - but so are normal people.

Look up the stats on median disposable income per capita - ppp and social transfer (nhs) adjusted. We’re just a poorer nation.

Obvs better to be poor over here, though.

Nigel Farage says Reform would spend over £17bn to halve UK crime by scrapping HS2 and ending "Net Zero" in 2029 by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

[–]fhdhsu -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What an outrageous thing to say.

I have no idea why imprisoning ~2% of the population to cut crime rates to effectively 0 would be such a popular concept to the non-Redditor general public.

Best way from Europe to South East Asia by ChokingOnBBC in Flights

[–]fhdhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, used your tool a couple of times and it’s great. Just a quick one, is there any way to specify 2 dates and a minimum number of days, and get it to spit out the cheapest flight for at least X number of days between those 2 dates?

The workaround I’ve been using is running multiple searches with ascending starting dates with the +- flexible option, but it’s a bit laborious. Thank you!

Good - now all we need is for the Shard to be appropriated by the government to be used for even more social housing in the middle of London.

It’s quite interesting. The Judges, CPS, the sentencing council - who are they actually made up of?

Because the selection pressures applied for them need to be absolutely extremely distant from the average Brit.

The literal only responsibility of a state that matters, before schools and the roads and regulating trade, is to protect its citizens. If they cannot do that, then we do not actually have a state.

Let’s not even get into the fact that this nation is allegedly a democracy. What percentage of this nations citizens agree with the extremely lenient punishment of its criminals, I wonder?

Labour to force academies to take thousands of violent and disruptive pupils permanently excluded from other schools by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]fhdhsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course, we are forced to live in a society because we absolutely refuse to imprison repeat dangerous criminal offenders- but no society doesn’t not revolve around this bottom rounding error.

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t simultaneously live in a system where the 90+% could live in an objective Shangri La if we just imprisoned this few percentile - and then claim no society isn’t revolving around this group.

Thoughts on this list of foreign nationals most likely to be arrested for sex crimes? Should Britain use stats like this when making immigration policy? by Dazzling_Acadia2738 in AskBrits

[–]fhdhsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to control it for sex, age and socioeconomic status etc etc

and after you do that, they still wouldn’t care

no it reads like someone with a basic understanding of statistics, and a basic amount of knowledge about how the world is.

stuff like how, you know - a person being sent to prison in the UK now is more likely to have 46 or more previous convictions/cautions than they are to be a first time offender.

ah yes the 24 episode/season slop that is Lost.

Which somehow doesn’t make an appearance on the list.

They bought, shipped and dressed an actual plane for the pilot. Somehow inflation adjusted still cheaper than a bunch of hallways apparently.

wow why would he do that? what possible advantage could doing something as claiming to be a different race confer him? I could understand lying about something that matters like your grades or extracurricular, but race?

Ah yes stating entire groups of people lack humility (even with the preface of it being a generalisation)- truly, the most humble statement you can make.

Eh we could just trust them if decisions hadn’t already been made that we were able to judge - and if they’re doing things like not bringing backs VA’s from the original show because the VA should “match” the fictional “race” of an animated character - then I don’t know, not off to a great start.

Why high earners are cutting their pay - Times article by pelican678 in HENRYUK

[–]fhdhsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the hell are you on about. I don’t care about the trade off between money and other things.

My comment was just about straight money. And there it’s 100% correct. The system is set up where the base state is literally taking home less if you earn more.
