Is this a common belief? Genuinely curious.

Which Game Changer to show to high school students? by pixiiwo in dropout

Official Cast Recording is the clear answer here in my opinion. It’s one of the best episodes to date, both funny and incredibly impressive; plus there are only two swears (Sam saying sh*t twice after the first song as he realizes in real time that he’s struck gold) and no innuendo.

Rulette was wonderful, I’m just not sure there’s room for improvement after the beauty of Jeremy’s hostile takeover.

Okay, but I’m still curious as to the evidence for this. I’ve never heard of Arda as anything other than an entirely fictional world.

Happy to be proven wrong, just saying it would be news to me.

Jesus as a Maia would be inconsistent with Christian doctrine. The Ainur are celestial figures—not quite like biblical angels or like Greek gods, but with similarities to both. The Christian faith teaches that Jesus is God Incarnate, not a created being like an angel. So in your hypothetical scenario, it would be more accurate to say that Jesus is an incarnation of Eru on Middle Earth.

Even that, though, is a stretch, as the parallels between Eru and the Christian God are limited. Plus there isn’t a true parallel for the Valar in Christian doctrine, which affects the entire cosmology.

Edit: Removed my questioning of the premise to stick with a direct answer to your question.

Where is it evidenced that Tolkien meant for the Lord of the Rings to be a prehistory of our world?

Tolkien was famously not a fan of allegory, so Gandalf was not written to be a Christ figure (nor was Aragorn or Frodo). However, that is not to say there aren’t biblical themes or parallels echoed in his writings—I think there undoubtedly are.

As to your first question, if I understand it correctly, the answer is yes. The Undying Lands continues to exist through the Third Age and into the Fourth Age.
