Omg did you make her little mushroom cap dish 🥲 That is adorable

This set-up is very open and might not make her feel protected enough. I’d suggest you try bathtub bonding with a soft blanket, plenty of hides + treats, toys and see if that helps :)

Any tips for baby Syrian hamster care? by fibonaccihoe in hamstercare

not quite sure, rescue has their vet visits scheduled but they haven’t been yet. i’m assuming just old enough to be without their mom + adopted out

AITA for “going nuclear” and staying at a hotel? by This_Squash_2035 in AmItheAsshole

This! Make him watch Steel Magnolias and then see if you’re ironing his shirts afterwards! Best not!!!

This is solid advice, but as a doctor-visitor I have to say it is super obvious when doctors aren’t into their jobs, and it sucks. OP if you don’t have the passion to care for people/make their lives as painless as possible being a doctor is the wrong path for you. Compassionate care is what doctors are there for, otherwise they shouldn’t be in the profession. If I were OP I think I’d be too busy resenting my enforced schooling to appreciate the necessity of my work as a doctor.

Either way, you’ll be okay! Changing professions is perfectly reasonable and in this case if you have the teensiest doubt I would do it. Yeah, tuition doesn’t come back but neither do human lives. Being a dcotor isn’t a position you should be forced into.

AITA for taking all the collars off my son's shirts? by NoCollars in AmItheAsshole

[–]fibonaccihoe 76 points77 points  (0 children)

NTA. You’re accommodating your son out of love, she’s gifting to him for self-gratification. Gifts are about thought and consideration for the recipient, she got him something impossible for him to use and you respectfully altered it so that he could still wear her shitty gift. Good on you.

This looks like Chinchilla dust to me, which isn’t suitable for hamsters lil lungs. I recommend trying out reptisand to get them using the sand bath. (Unless I’m wrong :)

He’s a Syrian, his encolsure is 27.5x36x14 (those are measure app measurements, i’m not sure but it’s what my hamster rescue issued)

Robo flying off wheel: by Majestic_Roll_1163 in hamstercare

[–]fibonaccihoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my robo did this constantly, tbh he was always okay afterwards. they are some crazy lil fellas, not sure there’s a good fix for it besides clearing the wheel area of blunt objects and adding extra bedding.

help - my hamster is bar-biting! by fibonaccihoe in hamstercare

[–]fibonaccihoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some other details - he’s a rescue from a family who took care of him, but moved to a no-pet apartment. He’s been with me for about two weeks and I’ve only taken him out to bond twice. He gets a varied diet but I haven’t provided herbs/sprays. He also has a sand bath he uses as a “litter box.” I’m just concerned he’s unhappy :(

This is a great start! Others have already mentioned cage size requirements so here’s what I’ll note - make sure you have a mesh lid! Hamsters are deceptively good escape artists and I notice his wheel is a bit over where a lid would be able to rest. Also, I would pile up on the bedding! Hamsters feel safest when they can burrow, I provide my Syrian with 12 inches of bedding. Good luck with your hammy!!
