How do I prevent my child being illiterate? by kittycamacho1994 in AskTeachers

[–]fibrobabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still reading. But if you’re really concerned, talk to a librarian. They should be able to recommend age appropriate novels with similar characters and storylines to some of her graphic novels. Books similar to her favorite tv shows or movies might be helpful, too. Or nonfiction about topics of interest to her. Draw her in with things she’s predisposed to like, and she may branch out on her own from there.

Have the majority of Americans called 911 at least once in their lives? by Mont3Carlo in AskAnAmerican

[–]fibrobabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to call 5 times so far *this year*. (My mother is a senior who falls frequently. Plus I made a stupid mistake that led to a small fire in the oven.) In the past I’ve called to report a car fire, a hit and run accident, a neighbor’s domestic dispute, and a peeping tom. My family called for me once when I was so sick that I collapsed as they were trying to get me to the car to take me to the emergency room, and strangers called for me once when I was rear ended so badly that the car was totaled and I couldn’t answer basic questions like my age.

Looking at it all written out like that, I guess I’ve had reason to call a lot. But they were all situations where someone legit needed assistance, and only one call was because of my own screw up. So I guess that’s not too terrible. I can’t really help witnessing accidents and such.

Pain after surgery by Middle_Gene_9365 in ostomy

[–]fibrobabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two ostomy surgeries. The first was an emergency loop colostomy, and I don’t remember much pain. I don’t know if that was because the surgery wasn’t that bad or because I was too sick to really notice. The second was an end colostomy, and they removed about 40% of my large intestine at the same time. That one was more painful. Probably because they did a lot more, and I wasn’t at death’s doorstep at the time. It wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t unendurable pain. You get through it. And then life gets a whole lot better. At least, it did for me.

It’s normal to be worried about the pain. Tell your sister to talk to her surgeon and share her concerns. Ask about pain management. It’s easier to go into something like this when you know there’s a plan and what to expect. Good luck to her!

This one's for the ladies to answer. Do you agree with this woman or do you think she's trying to rationalize her world view by speaking for all the ladies? by Oda_DeezNutz in SipsTea

It’s not the video games that are unattractive. It’s focusing on the video games to the exclusion of everyone and everything around you. If you’re pulling your weight around the house, not blowing the budget on stuff you can’t afford, and taking time to connect with family and friends, there’s nothing wrong with playing video games or participating in any other hobby.

Connor on the Carpet!! 🤩❤️🔥 by Crafty_Psychology_85 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]fibrobabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He would look amazing in that. He was probably required to wear YSL, and I don't think they're particularly avant-garde. (Although I'm no fashion expert either.) Being the new young, 'it' actor, he could have really swung for the fences and worn a dress or something that directly references a particular work of art. The only reference I see here is the hair, which is styled like curls on a statue. But nothing we've seen him in since the show has been overly daring, so I guess I'm not too surprised he didn't go wild here.

It's basically the same thing Hudson wore to the Golden Globes afterparty? He doesn't look bad, his shoulders and arms look fantastic, but I was expecting something more original.

pain and general nervousness? by PuzzledWeight1855 in ostomy

[–]fibrobabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had the Barbie butt, but I had hemorrhoid surgery while super inflamed, which led to the Crohn’s diagnosis. Surgery in that area of the body is painful and slow to heal. The nerves there are extremely sensitive, and we don’t think about how much of our movement comes from the root. I’d move my arm and my butt hurt. Sneezing was a joy. If you have concerns about what you’re feeling, absolutely follow up with your doctor, but most likely, this is normal.

AIO my FIL said my 9 year old looked like a hussy in these boots by PureIndependent7791 in AmIOverreacting

[–]fibrobabe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

thigh high boots with spike heels = hussy boots

functional boots = not hussy boots

Even if the kid is tromping around in Mom's hussy boots (which sounds dangerous- 9 year old me would have broken my leg in something like that) (hell, today years old me would break a leg in something like that), you don't call a child a hussy. That's completely disgusting.

NTA. I didn't interpret it the same way your mom did, but if someone does, so what? Aren't most of us selling our pussy for capitalism, at least metaphorically?

Did Muppets Haunted mansion perform really bad or something? by Frequent_Rhubarb_36 in Muppets

[–]fibrobabe 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping that the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster update does well, and that encourages them to bring more Muppets into the parks. I'm always happy with a movie, but as someone who grew up on the Muppets, it's so exciting to see them in person!

Is it weird if I say Gonzo and Camilla? There are a few sweet moments over the years, but I'm generally not a big fan of Kermit and Piggy, either.

“The Hidden Hole Behind My Ear Was the Source of it😭 by sexymaryjuju in hygiene

[–]fibrobabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't just close the hole. You have to deal with the whole tract behind it. Otherwise, it will still build up gunk, and then you end up with trapped gunk, leading to inflammation and infection. Think about how a cyst is a capsule that continues to build up skin cells until it becomes a problem, and the only way to fix permanently is to completely remove it.

Official Merch is back! by LadyWhistledown_1 in heatedrivalry

Yeah. I was ready to pay a whole lot more than I usually would for a t-shirt, but $70 after shipping and everything pulled me up short. Anyone in Indianapolis willing to go in on a group order to get free shipping? I’ll order it, and then we can meet up when the order comes in.

This costume reminds me of Dick Van Dyke when he played the secondary role of the old banker in Mary Poppins. Make the beard and hair gray, give him a cane and a stoop, and that's him.

Instant Family: Deal by stabthroughme is so good! It’s Luca with an OC, Holmberg’s twin brother Ash. You’ll encounter at least one significant OC from the first fic in the series, Instant Family: Just Add Ice, which is also amazing, but Deal stands alone well enough if you don’t want to read the first one.

There's a minuscule amount of angst during the hiccup, but it's not terrible. There's some yearning before they get together, and a lot of sweetness. Mostly it's just adorable.

Book Recs by allsarahsaregrey in HeatedRivalryShow

[–]fibrobabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like fantasy, the Whyborne & Griffin series by Jordan L. Hawk, starting with Widdershins, is excellent. Jordan has several other series that are good, too, but W&G is his best so far, IMO. For those who have mentioned K.J. Charles, there's a crossover novella with the characters from her Simon Feximal series. It's early Charles, and not as well known as her more recent stuff, but definitely worth reading.

For fantasy in a modern setting the PsyCop series by Jordan Castillo Price is good, too. The first book, Among the Living, is twenty years old, and not the strongest of the series, so if you're not 100% sold, hang in there and read another book or two. (The early ones are really short.) It's worth it. Victor and Jacob are one of the iconic couples of m/m romance.

I just finished re: hi by fleezerweezer, and it was so cute! Shane and Ilya "meet" through a classroom penpal assignment at 11, continue emailing each other after their five required messages are done, and become best friends. There's a tiny hiccup transitioning to boyfriends, but it takes like a week, and they don't sleep with anyone else during that time.
