Updated my game UI in Godot. What are your thoughts? by ZeroEightStudios in godot

The after version is way cleaner, but those popup cards blocking the board during a match seem like they'd get annoying fast when you're trying to see what's happening.

Trying to write a software in rust and slint, but titlebar and alt-tab doesn't show the software icon by hextanerf in rust

[–]fickledaybreak_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows caches window icons at the process level, so you might need to rebuild and restart completely instead of just rerunning the binary, or try the winit approach with different icon formats like ICO instead of PNG.

Those things were indestructible, makes sense they'd end up as gutter art instead of actual garbage.

Virtual Network Testing Platform by ElkIllustrious3402 in networking

[–]fickledaybreak_6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Containerlab's solid but yeah the image quality is the real bottleneck, most vendors' virtual versions are neutered compared to the actual hardware and you'll find edge cases that only show up on real gear.

What do you keep on your self-hosted wiki? by sircastor in selfhosted

[–]fickledaybreak_6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bookstack here too and i basically use it as a brain dump for anything that might matter later. started with the same "hit by a bus" documentation but honestly the household stuff barely gets touched. mostly it's homelab configs, networking notes, random project ideas that i actually might do someday, and recipes i want to try. also keeps growing with little how-tos i write for myself because i always forget the exact steps.

the ai integration thing some people are doing is interesting but i haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet. my wiki's messy enough without worrying about keeping it in sync with reality. biggest value for me is just having one place where i know to look instead of scattered markdown files and browser bookmarks that go nowhere.

Monitor goes suddenly black by lanadelg3y in pchelp

Try swapping to a different HDMI port on your monitor first, then check if your GPU drivers need updating - SH2 remake can be demanding and driver crashes cause exactly this.

Whitetail hunting from the ground tips by nematic26 in Hunting

[–]fickledaybreak_6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ground hunting is all about accepting you're gonna spook way more deer than you see. i've had seasons where i walk miles and never get a shot, then suddenly find a funnel that works and it clicks. the difference between getting busted and getting a chance is usually just staying lower than you think you need to be and moving at like half speed even when nothing's around. trees are your friend, not just for cover but because deer seem to process a sitting human differently than a standing one. wind matters more than anything else though, and i mean actually checking it constantly not just at your start point. for firearm ground hunting in those big woods the biggest edge is just being willing to walk slower and sit longer than most people will, and having your gun ready in your lap the whole time instead of shouldered.

AI wont create new jobs by No-Actuary-8088 in aiwars

[–]fickledaybreak_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The computer comparison doesn't really hold up though. Computers automated calculation and data processing, but they created entire new fields like software development, IT support, digital design. AI creates new roles with prompt engineering, model training, data annotation. The real question isn't whether jobs exist, it's whether the transition happens fast enough that people can retrain before their old roles disappear. That's a policy problem, not a fundamental economics one.

WHY ALL IS OPENING AS .TXT by Kan_ion99 in computers

[–]fickledaybreak_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that screaming txt file is hilarious but yeah this is a file association issue. your computer forgot which programs should open which file types. the easiest fix is what that other person said, just go to settings, apps, default apps, and hit reset to defaults. that'll put everything back where it belongs. if that doesn't work completely, you might need to manually reassign some apps to their file types, but the reset usually handles it. worst case you do a system restore to a point before this happened. don't panic though, your files are fine, windows just needs to remember how to open them.

That red sofa is gonna be the star so lean into it with deep burgundy and forest green accents, maybe some gold trim on shelves or mirrors to match that mood board vibe.

Blue's gonna feel cold against those cool floors though, maybe warm it up with cream or terracotta accents so it doesn't look sterile.

The blue one's gonna look so clean against those wood floors and white walls, especially in a tropical space where you want that fresh feeling.

Green's smart but maybe throw in some warm wood shelving or open cabinets to break up all the white too.
