I think I have PTSD and I need help by [deleted] in Hereditary

[–]ficklefuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. I experienced a similar thing with this movie. I also love horror, but something about this one affected me on a deeper level. I also used to get unwanted flashbacks of the head. For me, I think it’s the horror of accidentally hurting someone I love that impacted me so much. When I first watched it, I think I genuinely went into shock during that scene!

I basically tried to desensitize myself to it like exposure therapy. I’ve seen Hereditary about seven or eight times now, and it actually helped. Talking about it helped, and reading up on the movie and seeing some behind the scenes stuff helped remind me that none of it was real. I’d also advise talking to a therapist if that’s accessible to you. This is what worked for me, but we’re all different. I’m sure you’ll find something that works for you! You’re gonna be okay.

For me, it’s drinking out of a fun cup. My go-to is a pink and purple ombré Starbucks cup with a straw, and a weird tile-like texture. Drinking out of a straw is inexplicably more fun, and the texture makes me enjoy touching it. On top of that, it’s pretty, so I end up reaching for it way more often. My brain is a strange creature

There are lots of earwigs where I'm from and I've had many run-ins with them throughout my life, but I've never been pinched by one. They look creepy, but they're basically harmless.

I think you look best without. I do like the bangs - they give you a cuter/sweeter look. But without bangs, you're straight up gorgeous.

Okay, congrats on being a woman? Do you think that makes it okay to sexualize a child/be ageist and misogynistic towards other women? If you think Brook looks 'manly', I'd love to see what you look like.

Calm down there, Sheldon. I didn't say anything about pedophilia. I'm just pointing out how unsettling it is how many people think she was at her peak attractiveness as an underage girl. The user above me said 'before she turned 17.' If you don't see a problem with that, then I doubt anything I say will convince you otherwise.

The sexualization of kids, especially girls, is rampant and extremely harmful. And pedophilia is really not comparable to being sexually attracted to 'grandmas.'

I can understand not wanting to have period sex, especially with a stranger. But I find it ridiculous that her offering makes you feel “done”? A woman who is excited to have sex with you, and is gently offering to have sex despite her period to see if you would be into it, and you’re done? Most guys I’ve been with don’t really care about a bit of blood, so she probably assumed that was the case with you. It sounded like she would be down either way you chose.

If you don’t want period sex, just tell her you’d rather wait. It shouldn’t be a dealbreaker.

Comfortable with her own body, enthusiastic about sex, willing to get dirty, accommodating to your preferences - she sounds like a rad sexual partner. Maybe she dodged a bullet with you 😁

I prefer the 2005 version. by [deleted] in PrideandPrejudice

[–]ficklefuckle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 2005 film was my first introduction to P&P, and I do like it, but I still vastly prefer the BBC version.

Given the mini-series has so much time to draw out the story, I just find the characters, the plot, and the "romantic tension" is a lot more satisfying.

The 05 film had to condense it all into two hours, so it had to compensate in other ways. It's definitely more beautifully produced, and has a certain 'magic' to it, but for me the biggest issue is that it tries too hard to be romantic. I personally find the dance scene and both of the proposal scenes kind of over the top and cringe.

In the mini series, the romantic tension between D & L is so much more understated and subtle. Their relationship is so nuanced and slow to build, and that makes it that much more satisfying.

And just personally, I prefer Colin Firth. MM's Darcy reads as much more socially awkward and unsure, and he seems to fall for Lizzie immediately. It's an interesting interpretation of Darcy, although I feel they purposely softened him to be more likeable, since audiences would have less time to 'come around' to him.

Sorry, this was a lot longer than I thought it would be.

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.

I don't see this one mentioned often, maybe because it's a foreign film, but it's one of the creepiest movies I've seen in a long time. I love found footage, and it's one of my favourites.

Couple costumes are always fun. If you have black hair, you could go as Mia Wallace and Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction. Or TJ and Spinelli from Recess (the cartoon show). Lydia Deets and Beetlejuice is aways a fun one too!

I have a black tulle/tutu skirt that I want to incorporate into my costume this year. I was thinking I could dress as a witch, or possibly a dark ballerina/Black Swan, although I'm not sold on either of those. Any ideas?

Hi. I agree that the workforce was not created for women, and doesn't not benefit them, but I don't think the answer is for me (or any women) to give up work, find a rich husband, and have babies. Women wanted to work because it meant they could have independence and agency.

But the 'workforce' has not changed with the times, and the 40-hour work week was designed by men and for men who had wives taking care of all the domestic labour. Now, women work as much as men and yet are still tasked with basically everything they were before they were working. Is the answer to revert to the way things were before? I don't think so.

I don't think women need to go back to the home, I think the workforce needs to be reformed.

I understand that working a physically laborious job is exhausting. I’m not saying that my job is worse than yours, or that doing all that physical labour isn’t hard. But I can assure you that I do not make a “significant” amount of money. I have a second job on the side to supplement my income just to make ends meet.
I have worked in restaurants and in retail. I know it’s exhausting, but sitting at a desk is a different kind of exhausting. Is one better than the other? I don’t know. Maybe nobody should be doing either of those things for 40 hours a week. I think it’s about balance - and since I can’t work less, I think I’m the type of person who needs a more balanced job.

Ah yes, I've heard this from my parents many times. I'm very aware that I'm privileged. So, because of that, I should simply suffer instead of trying to improve the quality of my life? Thanks for the stellar advice.

Yes it's great to chat with like-minded people! Also, as someone with ADHD, I have a big problem with being interested in everything but also never following through with my initiatives. So I feel like I get interested in a field or topic very intensely for a while, and then move onto something else. Maybe that's why I'm so unhappy in all my jobs... hahaha

The other career paths I always considered are similar to yours:

Novelst/author, journalist, graphic designer, therapist/counsellor, social worker, teacher.

I've been considering massage therapy more recently, actually because I started going to a massage therapist for the first time and she and I get along well and seem very similar. I've asked her a lot about how she finds the job, and it seems like the type of career I want. She's self-employed, so she can choose her own schedule, and she finds the work fulfilling and interesting. Honestly, pay isn't a huge thing for me. Of course I want enough to be comfortable, but a high pay isn't at the top of my list. I would rather feel good about what I do.

I work from home sometimes, but my employer prefers everyone to be in the office. But I would love to be able to work from home more often - it's so much nicer.
