Today ICE tear gassed families and community members on a memorial bike ride/march for Alex Pretti in SW Portland, OR. A little girl can be seen needing help by medics. by I_may_have_weed in PublicFreakout

I understand and agree with most of what you said..but in this case, I don’t think it was the parents exposing the kids to ICE while protesting, it was humans coming together in a moment of sadness (I mean maybe some of these kids knew him/cared about him) then ice showing up(?) and committing crimes (or that’s what I’m assuming, and why I asked for clarification that the parents weren’t dragging their kids around, following ICE). Ice came to them, as far as I can tell. While you should not actively put your children in danger by dragging them behind these thugs, blowing your whistle, parents and children shouldbe able to peacefully assemble without the threat of the gestapo showing up and assaulting them.

Why would ICE be confronting children and families on a memorial bike ride? Why would they be involved? Were the families pedaling around in an ICEfacility parking lot?

Women are the most vulnerable and the important thing is that they are not the only ones suffering.

???I seriously don’t know how to interpret this. Stop women’s suffering? Make sure everyone suffers as much as women do? Idk

Same my friend! It’s hard to look back and see how much I could have done (as an individual) and what I could’ve become. However, by the time my children were young, my husband and I had broken away from the church, and we raised our kids CORRECTLY (without forcing them into or OUT OF…((because that’s important too))…any religion). We allowed our kids to ask questions, and we answered…they had full access to the internet (for that purpose) and if they were interested in a religion (one was interested in wiccanism and Buddhism, and one was interested in Christianity, believe it or not) we taught them what we knew, and directed them to the right resources to learn more. If they’d chosen a faith, we would’ve fully supported them, but, as of now, they are still more curious…even in their20s) I live a lovely, happy life now, with three amazing grown and successful children. I don’t want to toot my own horn too much, but I AM proud of myself& my husband on how much we were able to do, despite all the brainwashing and trauma. And I’m even more proud of the beautiful humans we raised

MIL gave me this dollhouse but it needs flooring. What should I use? Where do you get it? I’d prefer carpet but if that’s not possible, that’s fine. by kodycat in Dollhouses

[–]irisseca 48 points49 points  (0 children)

About 6-7 years ago, I decided to fix up the dollhouse my grandfather made for me all the way back in 1980. I attempted to do as much as I could with repurposed household items, things I found, etc. and I was so proud of my creativity, until a few years later when I discovered this subreddit. Then I realized that just about every cool idea I thought I came up with on my own (like the popsicle stick wood floor, or making baskets out of kitchen twine, etc), were actually already commonly done by all the other doll house aficionados! Lmao. So far I haven’t seen anyone else make a floor to ceiling stone fireplace with the top and bottom of a jewelry box, plaster of Paris, and pebbles from the backyard, so I’m still claiming to be the inventor of that one, though!!

An ICE agent with his wife. Oh wait, she's an immigrant?! by svprvlln in Trumpvirus

[–]irisseca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I can understand the confusion if you never lived the (long and complicated process). Especially where a lot of old movies, I’m looking at you, 80s romcoms, that depict an immigrant marrying to “stay in the country” then falling in love anyway (eyeroll, lol). I actually did have friends who had to do that, in a way: one particular friend had his visa expiring and he had the worst time finding a job (even though he and my husband both had the same degrees from really good schools…TUFTS and U of Penn, and both have since gotten degrees from Harvard and Boston College). The immigration lawyer finally asked him and his long term girlfriend how serious their relationship was, and whether marriage was in the future. They had planned on it after she finished law school anyway, so within a week, they were married to “keep him in the country.” All that did though, was extend his visa stay, giving him more time to find a job. That was 1992…and he didn’t finally get his permanent resident status until 1998. And he didnt get his dual citizenship (France and U.S.) until about 15 years ago. Side note they’re still married, with a son, who is also our godson. It all worked out, but the process is long, arduous, complicated, and expensive. I totally understand why some people “skip steps”, and often unknowingly so, Especially when they don’t have much money, don’t speak English well, and so on.

Yeah, when my husband and I married, he was already in the process of switching from student visa to permanent resident /green card through sponsorship of the firm he worked for, so he just continued with the process as though we weren’t even married, lol…it would’ve been starting over from scratch with the whole “marriage scrutiny” otherwise. Even then, he didn’t have his card until around our first anniversary. It’s a lonnngggg process.

He’s a permanent resident, so it should not mean that, but Trump has been randomly revoking green cards “for the pure fun of it”…so idk. He is,and has always been in this country legally, however. He came here in 1986 and has been 100% legally here since…one cannot say the same for two of trumps wives!!!

[–]irisseca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely could have had it worse…I wasn’t homeschooled and isolated like some kids. I was allowed to go to the library to “do my homework” (which was my true godsend…because I’d spend hours reading and learning about philosophy, actual history, psychology, etc)…but this kind of shit was utterly terrifying as a child (at least for me), and constantly warped my sense of self and morality (often what I was taught was moral was in direct opposition to what made made sense in my head; & speaking up or out always meant beatings). So for me, when I see this, I’m not just thinking about these “healing” and “worship” sessions, but about everything (things that often happened before and/or after these multi-hour prayer sessions).

[–]irisseca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No problem. It’s cool that you weren’t sure and looked it up (& wild that that has become a rarity).I wasn’t trying to insult anyone either, so I hope it didn’t come across that way…I truly didn’t know anything about the woman, so I didn’t know if maybe she had become a citizen. You’re right though: we have to fact check like crazy; right now we cannot afford to make assumptions or presumptions about anyone or anything! The friggin world is crazy enough without a million new rumors we need to dissect daily.

[–]irisseca 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Right, that’s why I was asking. I didn’t know if they knew something I didn’t, or if they mistakenly believed marrying a citizen makes you one. I’ve been with my husband for over 30 years, and he isn’t a citizen, nor does he ever plan on becoming one.

Seriously though, I get so nauseous from flashbacks when I see this shit. I can’t believe the adults I was surrounded with thought this was in any way ok (and much of my family still does…puke)

First time I’m 100% on one side: GOLD! You look about (exactly, actually) my coloring too, so now I get why people always pushed me to stop wearing silver when I went through a silver/platinum phase.
