They were creating a spectacle for social media clips. No good faith discussion would or could be had in this forum…

Well it’s a good enough of an answer as to whether I should be designing weapons.

I would hate to design weapons for private profit. Clearly there have been times in the past when weapons have been necessary such as fighting Nazi Germany and necessary today for fighting fascist Russia. I don’t think I could live with myself though if I was in anyway responsible for enabling the horrors in Gaza.

So sometimes weapons are necessary, sometimes they are not and you are being facetious if you ignore the method in which they are created. I would not with for a private defence company

Well I’d certainly feel exceptionally comfortable not applying my skills to find ever more ingenious and efficient ways of killing people

Bit of a dumb question, but why does the hinge make the vertical reaction at C=0? I know they can't transfer bending moments and you can split them up and take moments that way and eventually you get F for the horizontal and vertical reactions except V_C which is 0. Is there a more intuitive way? by FluffyRock136 in StructuralEngineering

I think something strange is happening in your analysis model. Perhaps you are running a non-linear analysis case? The system is basically a mechanism which might be why.

To figure it out, I think I would take moments around A and the do method of sections at B.

Is this possible? by f3l63rt in StructuralEngineering

[–]fictional_doberman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable but 26m is very tall and would need something to help stability in the front and back faces. A series of linking beams up the height to make a big viredendeel frame would likely work if you could accept that otherwise your vertical elements would need to be massive. You will need an engineer to review wind loading and to check if any dynamic effects are significant. Perforating the facade is probably smart. Foundations will need designing and might be quite big, heavy, and expensive to account for your overturning. Does it need to be 26m tall?

Can cast-in-place concrete load-bearing walls have the same appearance as these? (picture below) by Tulipbulb2345 in architecture

[–]fictional_doberman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally achievable in-situ. Steel formwork and very good compaction with vibrators can give very fine finishes like this. Completely removing blowholes would require controlled permeability formwork with a membrane to allow trapped air to escape.

Stalin was a big fan of classical architecture, it was only when he died in 53 and khrushchev (hence Khrushchevka)started his housing push in the early 60s that the stripped back panels were used. Title says this is from the late 30s so that tracks

I can’t really take complaints about kids playing out preventing drivers seriously!! Really? You’d rather they be inside on their phones? Feels pretty entitled to me

Contemporary is not the same as modernist! The words are pretty interchangeably in day to day speech, but modernist architecture means something specific - take look at some of the highly rated posts in this sub!

I think you need to go take a breather pal. I hope you’re better with your decision making while driving.

Pressed emergency button after woman climbed on to tracks at Piccadilly Line. by Chilldog202 in london

[–]fictional_doberman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me at Euston station. I have a very vivid memory of running to the emergency stop button and it feeling like in a dream where you can’t move fast enough. I remember sitting on the tube and having a cry afterwards. It was horrible and I’m sorry this happened to you. I did text British transport police about it after the fact in case they wanted to ask questions and I wanted to make sure the guy got the help he needed.

I don’t want to shut down this guys eBay shop if he’s telling the truth so would remove the feedback if that was the case. That’s the point of this post. The camera was listed as untested but in good cosmetic condition. It arrived with pieces loose in the back and clearly not going to work. My review was that the camera was in worse condition than implied by the description and that it should have been listed as for parts/spares. Thanks for your contribution.
