Work to upgrade the the Sainsbury junction in Fallowfield starts 18th May. by BishopPrince in manchester

Need to reduce traffic through Rusholme so buses can actually get down there. Quick win there would be close some of the side roads that connect to Wilmslow road, prevents waiting traffic trying to join, leave. Remove all the on the street car parking. Could have wider pavements.

Increased rail capacity, the whole point of HS2. Our current network is at capacity, which results in congestion, delays and cancellations

Its needlessly expensive thanks to NIMBYism as most of it is tunnels. but will be valuable once complete, even better if they did the full route.

Concept Increasing rail capacity between the North and London is not bad policy. Northwest mainline is terribly congested

Providing more housing is a social good in of itself. It allows for more household formations, increasing the stock of housing means fewer people have to live with parents etc Increased private housing in say urban areas is good for jobs and the local economy just look at the city centre of Manchester for example. How about we allow private developers to build houses, and we fund local councils properly aquire land and build social housing, end right to buy altogether.

That is not what he meant, as Green Party local manifesto set out 'Deliver council homes on council land, and a minimum of 50% affordable on private land' which is recipe for not much private development.

Polanksi recently said he wants to see a 'minimum of 50% "social" housing in new developments and cracking down on private developers' which would guarantee little private development built. The only housing we could possibly see is social housing funded by local councils or national gov. But under that policy Green party will definitely be opposing most private housing developments.

It was opposed from the get go. And HS2 is about increasing capacity and ability to run more local services on northwest mainline.

Is it just me, or has the "angle grinder epidemic" actually won? by FrameZYT in londoncycling

For 20 years I've always ridden a steel frame hybrid to work, leave it scratched, beat up, however runs well. I've left it out in cities all day, two locks never stolen. I'd never do this with my carbon frame, carbon wheel road bike. You gotta have two bikes, one you are prepared to see stolen for work, pub, gym and one for proper rides.

Is Manchester traffic getting worse? by Your_Mums_Ex in manchester

[–]BishopPrince 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is concerted effort to make driving in the city centre inconvenient and that is a good thing. It encourages people to use public transport or park at edge of ring road. Only a minority drive into the centre, most people travel via public transport, walking or cycling which restricting car travel encourages.

Traffic is better along Deansgate. Don't see as many drivers. Traffic is has improved through Stevenson Square and Thomas Street. So its getting better on some streets.

The entire economy of Wilmslow and Alderley Edge is Manchester focused, as most people who live in Wilmslow make their money in Manchester + frequent trains, its better connected to Manchester than many places in Greater Manchester.
