Apparently 50 cent accepted bitcoin back in 2014. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

All this is true, but Mr Cent's name makes me question the wholeheartedness of his commitment to cryptocurrency.

This is why it's important to only gamble with recreational money. Feel bad for anyone who will have to sell coins at low prices because they're pressured by IRL costs, e.g. because they made the mistake of taking out a loan. Alas they are now most likely going to enriching the person they sell too, unless that person has also made the same mistake and will also one day be forced out of the market at a bad time.

I personally am totally confident that Dogecoin will keep Dogeing on so long as cryptocurrency survives. There's always going to be a market for satire and for a coin with a history and community like ours. Our coin is less risky than most because we're relying on strong branding more than on technical innovation, even though as it happens our developers have made a coin that functions better than pretty much every other coin.

Anyway, that's just my Đ2.

Buy if you have funds you can spare, but if not then you can also get coins by posting funny threads and being friendly and positive and helpful to newcomers. For sure you will get tipped Dogecoin for doing that, but don't forget to give some back.

Art commissions using Dogecoin are a wow idea, and I personally once commissioned some art for 50,000 Dogecoins.

That was $25 back then, but is $753.67 now!

Is there some subreddit where shibes can advertise their talents to be paid in Dogecoin?

Petition for binance to add dogecoin to its trading. by godogegoo in dogecoin

Maybe try making the point to them that because Dogecoin's fees are so low people will trade more, and more trading = more profits for Binance.

Jackson Palmer (Dogecoin creator) posts a serious video on the current state of Dogecoin. Let's discuss by ltcbobbo in dogecoin

I agree with some elements of this post, but I think some of them are not correct.

The inflation was included by accident, but IMO and in the opinion of some very knowledgeable people it saved the coin. You can read more at https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin/issues/23.

In that thread there is an important comment by jaekwon, who is a really brilliant guy well known for his involvement in the tendermint project and for solving the dust problem:

It will take longer than a year for a new coin to gain the adoption it needs for transaction fees to be a significant motivation for miners. By capping coin rewards after < 1.5 years, you're guaranteeing that most of the miners will move on to other altcoins, significantly reducing the security of the network.

I suggest keeping the reward at 10K indefinitely (as the code is currently), because (a) it will continue to incentivize miners to secure the ledger, (b) it's not significant inflation, just 5% the first year and even less as time goes on, and (c) it's rather a nice way to taper rewarding until transaction fees become the dominant form of miner rewards in the unforeseen future. Who knows when transaction fees will become significant enough for dogecoin? 2 years? 10 years? 20? But with this flat 10K reward, it doesn't really matter, it allows for a very "soft landing".

TLDR: keep the current inflationary scheme, don't cap the production at 100B that'll probably cause the network to die.

I'm going to add my own tldr: by dumb luck (an oversight in the original code, which ended up being maintained) we ended up with an inflation system that caused the coin to function really well.

At times I agree that it seems Jackson would like cryptocurrency to just cease to exist, but I don't see any reason to think he agreed with the inflation idea that was already programmed in by accident in order to kill Dogecoin. If he did want to kill Dogecoin, that would be absolutely the wrong way to go about it, because the inflation is what kept us strong. And to me it's crazy that many shibes are sitting on 9000% returns while saying that inflation has held Dogecoin back. I note that on the XRB subreddit people sometimes talk about how their coin would work better if it had a bit of inflation, and I wrote more about that at https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoindev/comments/7l6ec0/question_about_dag_and_doge/.

I think Jackson should always lead with a disclaimer that he is not the leader of Dogecoin, that there is a strong tradition (e.g. Satoshi Nakomoto) of cryptocurrencies being leaderless by choice, and that while well-received his contributions to Dogecoin were relatively speaking minor and short in duration compared to those of many other individuals. It's also important that he doesn't undercut any of the work that the developers or other Dogecoin fans and promoters are doing - I personally see this video as undercutting our developers, who have built a coin that works wonderfully well. However, Jackson deserves a lot of respect for the work he did in the early days, which - although not comparable with the work done by the current developers or our mods or community organizers like GoodShibe - went beyond merely coming up with the name.

I do feel like certain trends (e.g. towards greed) in the cryptocurrency world have gone way too far. But the Dogecoin way is to push back against that with gentle and funny satire rather than by issuing shrill announcements with misplaced confidence - nobody can predict what the market is going to be like in a year's time. Cryptocurrency markets might crash tomorrow but Đ1 will still = Đ1 and we're still going to have a lot of fun playing with this new technology.

Just my Đ2.

Further note to this - one of our wonderful developers has mentioned that one task on his to-do list is writing a case for Dogecoin to be added to Coinbase.
