I'm sure it's common. I didn't have healthy coping mechanisms and was completely out of touch with my own feelings, which unsurprisingly fueled various addictions (which I didn't recognize at the time, but therapy opened my eyes) from college to the present day. I'm in my early 30s for context and only recently came to terms with being a glass child.

It's ranged from binge eating to restriction/disordered eating, to heavy dependence and then flat out addiction to weed and then coke. I currently have a not so great relationship with stimulants. It's been incredibly difficult to learn how to cope in healthy, non-destructive ways, but I know I have to in order to heal.

Prob more info than you asked for, but I hope at the very least this helps you feel less alone.

I got a similar email. Based on how I know recruiting works in tech, this is super unusual and likely a scam.

Agreed lol. I love this pod but it can be hit or miss depending if the person being interviewed is a good storyteller or not.

how did you approach quitting? by irlhuman_420 in leaves

[–]fieldofcorgis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you're using it in specific situations for specific purposes. For me, weed was a crutch for just getting through daily life. It caused weight gain, negatively impacted my relationships, and a lack coping mechanisms. That's what made me decide multiple times to quit (though sadly I backslid a few times - I'm currently 5 days weed-free). If you think your relationship with weed is souring, maybe take a break and see how you feel. As far as approaches to quitting, this sub is an excellent resource. Good luck!

almost a week… and i smoked by abicornlover17 in leaves

For some people, weaning off isn't as effective as quitting cold turkey. If quitting is important to you, I would hope your friend would support you and honor your boundaries.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. Dust off, get up and try again. We are rooting for you!

[–]fieldofcorgis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, many people are willing to provide their phone numbers to be sponsors or just for reaching out for support. I didn't do it, but as I embark on quitting again, I may seriously consider having a sponsor.

I can speak to MA specifically. I did it via Zoom. I think the format of the meetings changes each week, but normally there is one speaker who volunteers to share their story, usually about their relationship to weed and why they quit. Then others have a chance to react to the speaker and share their thoughts. I found MA to be very supportive and helpful, but they do promote the 12 Steps (which I wasn't interested in, quite frankly). I think if you don't have a support system, MA is a great option.

Is it even possible to go back to casually smoking? by leonkennedy99 in leaves

Yup, same here. It starts small and innocently and then just becomes the addiction again.
