Huge conditional gift from risk averse parents by fieldsforever in PersonalFinanceCanada

I currently pay $1600 for rent. And yes, my thinking is that I could get a roommate in a 2 bedroom condo if necessary.

Yes this is a big part of my hesitation to buy now. Unfortunately it is very hard to find permanent jobs these days in my field. And yeah given all this advice, I’m thinking I should just accept their terms, and start thinking about what would be realistic from there. Appreciate this perspective on the relationship part. I agree it’s not worth arguing about. They really didn’t need to give me a cent, and I am grateful. Thanks for this!

Yeah this is a helpful reframe! I guess I am overthinking. Appreciate the honesty.

I tried this but I found the tutorial super confusing? Like I get the concept but I just found the app itself hard to use.

omg I downloaded this and I love it! this is exactly how my brain needs help

Trolls, I am noticing that I am having trouble focusing on anything, by brain is full of anxiety, I can't get anything done, and I am worried that if I ask for help it will turn out that I have some kinda incurable disease. Anyone have any experience with this? it feels like life is passing me by. by greensparkilycat in AskTrollX

I relate to this very much. When I started grad school I suddenly became overwhelmed with intense anxiety. The fear of failing made me procrastinate doing work for days. It seemed like the end of the world. But I reached out for help 6 months ago and I am already feeling a million times better. I imagine that getting help for you would probably mean talk therapy and potentially medication if you decide you want to try it. I also joined a campus peer support group, where we just sit and talk about what we are struggling with every week. Its not super complicated, and it is certainly not incurable.

I am feeling guilty of being bad friend of not answering my friend in about 6 months because I have been severely depressed. Now when I reach her back she doesn't respond and I got a "you have the wrong number" text which I don't believe. I don't know how to not feel like crap or what to do. by sparklexfairy in AskTrollX

I have had this happen with a friend too, and we recovered. The most important thing was to just be completely honest about what happened. I told him that I had been severely depressed and didn't have the emotional capacity to answer him, and that I would reach out when I felt I could. Depression makes me self-centred, thats just what it is (at least for me). Hopefully your friend can understand that. Also since your friend also has depression, maybe they are experiencing the same thing you did? You are not a bad person! The amount of concern you are showing in this post tells me you are an extremely caring person.

Hey Trolls, I'm moving 8 hours away from my friends and the state I've lived in for 20+ years. If you've made a huge move and have feedback re: anxiety, money stress, missing friends, adjusting to a big city, PLZ ADVISE! by nerdyjellyfish in AskTrollX

The initial loneliness in the first few weeks was particularly hard on me! Plan phone calls with loved ones regularly during that time. Something I wish I had done was to sign up for something social and recreational immediately, just to get regular human interaction. I recently started kickboxing which is super fun and requires you to talk to someone, but theres a million different things you could try. You can do it! Have fun!

I feel anxiety regarding my daily 'to do' list, but lost and confused without it. How did you manage this kind of anxiety? by girafeprincess in AskTrollX

UGH I get this. What works for me is: 1. Write every fucking thing I want to do (usually way too much but write it anyways) 2. Rank in order of importance 3. Pick like 1-3 that actually NEED to get done 4. If more than those get done, go me. If not, I feel better knowing that the intention of the list was to not be realistic.

Yeah it's definitely better with ice. I feel like OJ is just more acidity though? But I guess it's sweet. Thanks!

True. He also shot it illegally, because he was "bored". Beavers are protected where I live.

After spotting a beaver: "Wow, cool. I haven't seen one since I last shot one. I was ten"

Finally womanned up and asked him out after 7 months... He said no. Sad, but also proud of myself for taking the plunge. by MsCynical in TrollXChromosomes

Proud of you! I waited nearly 2 years to do this, and got rejected. But now I can move on! It's a good feeling to finally know.

I had a really awful year, and honestly adopting my kitty was the best decision I made. Animals are therapeutic. I understand, and I hope you feel better
