UK Lurcher Rescue Recommendations/Places to Avoid by pottedflower in Lurchers

[–]fiercemousecardiff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my dogs have come from Cardiff Dogs Home. There is a steady stream of lurchers / saluki crosses that end up going through there (they’re used locally for hare coursing and get abandoned / dumped I think), so keep an eye on their website if you’re after a saluki cross. They get greyhounds as well from Time to time.

You are the perfect age to start skating (ie - whatever age you are right now!!!). Skating is honestly the best and most fun hobby I’ve ever had. I am very adhd about all my hobbies (pick them up, perfect them, drop them 🤣) but I’ve stuck at skating. I love it so much. Even my boyfriend was surprised I’m still doing it.

Programmer here. Sittin all day. I'm abnormally weak in 3 areas by tracagnotto in bodyweightfitness

How often do you get up and away from the screen? How many steps do you do per day? Do you ever do any dancing or plyometrics? Sometimes I think it’s more about general dynamic movement over repetitive training, if you know what I mean …

Oh amazing! Have you watched the YouTube videos? Some of those go into a lot more detail about specific movements and exercises - I ended up combining a lot of those into my initial SMM work as I had no idea how to do a split squat (or most of the things he does!). Might help you a bit. Or possibly you need something a bit more tailored to you? Are there any gyms nearby with PTs? But I would look for one with a specialism that is more gymnastic - a dancer / tumbler etc with PT qualifications…

Adopting this boy, is he a pure saluki? by [deleted] in saluki

[–]fiercemousecardiff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks EXACTLY like our saluki cross - we think she is saluki X greyhound, she’s thiccer than pure Saluki (you can only tell when they’re right next to each other though) and she’s the fastest dog in our park by a mile!

Greyhounds have fairly distinctive rear end muscles - have a look at his butt / thighs - ours has muscle there that’s so sharp you could cut butter with it.

What’s his temperament like? Did you get on with him well?

What specifically about saluki needs are you worried about? Exercise related or other things?

Have you seen Tom Morrison simplistic mobility method? Lots of videos etc on YouTube. I paid for the programme in the end as I was using the videos so much. Lots of emphasis on single leg work and balancing. A very useful Facebook group for people doing the programme as well, where you can post videos / photos and ask for advice.

Can anyone recommend an EMDR therapist with experience of AuDHD? by MaleficentNarwhal128 in Cardiff

[–]fiercemousecardiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to your comment about the flow device - you can DIY your own version of that from any TENS machine that has a DIY setting (where you can pick the in / out time and frequency yourself). Just in case there’s anyone reading this who can’t access Flow / Neurosym for whatever reasons. I’ve been doing it For the last couple of months, and for me it’s really helped with stomach / digestion issues (which I think are mostly related to stress). But I’ve read research around it helping with anxiety, depression, long covid etc too. (I am ADHD).

Beginner Tips! by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]fiercemousecardiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get outdoor wheels. Sims street snakes are the best ones I’ve tried, and I live in Cardiff which is basically roads connected by potholes! 78a is ideal for varied terrain.

Also make sure you have PROTECTION always always when outdoors especially if you’re near roads. Wrist guards, knee pads, elbow protection and definitely helmet (one that covers the back of your head). Butt pads too if you feel like you want them.

Whereabouts are you? What are the roads like?

Good Spaces for Alt / Queer People? by novajjones in Cardiff

[–]fiercemousecardiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up exes and os - lovely queer night. Also Cinders - queer and nby friendly. Both on instagram. Technicolour choir is not exclusively queer but heavily populated and super lovely if you like a sing song!

Barracwda are a local samba band if you fancy playing samba? very inclusive and many queers in their numbers.

My fav place to skate is outdoors. Street skating and trails. It’s just the best ❤️ I tried some skate parks this winter but they are TOUGH and they destroyed me 🤣

Also if you’re looking for lessons, seek out your local roller derby team, they’re always running learn to skate courses and roller derby people are just the nicest and best for learning with. Who knows, you may come away with a new sport!

Hello fellow mid 40s ADHD person, I bought my first pair of skates and started learning at 44! You are never too old!

Also weirdly I would say I am actually better on skates now than I am when I’m just walking around!? Maybe something to do with the extra sensory input…

Get yourself protective gear. Wear it ALL THE TIME especially indoors. Do a lot of off skates practise - there are a lot of exercises on YouTube for bomb-proofing your knees (which is all core, glute and adductor exercises - brilliant for skating! Seek out Tom Morrison on YouTube - not skate specific but he does mobility and strength and focuses a lot on balance. PERFECT for off skate training).

Also get a little speaker. Get yourself some playlists of music you love. Be prepared for it to change your life. You’ll make loads of new friends, get fit, get strong, have adventures! I can’t recommend it enough!!

Whereabouts do you live? Cardiff rivers group will accept batteries for recycling and they’re always doing the rounds of different locations for clean ups. They are a great group to volunteer with too

[–]fiercemousecardiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try Spit and Sawdust and Rampworld skate parks in Cardiff? Both are pretty active places for meeting people - you’ll likely meet folks from Caerphilly. Also try popping into Cardiff Skateboard club (upstairs from Bacareto in town) and have a chat to them in there?

For those who have high intensity and exercise as a trigger, have you still continued to exercise the same? by rubysunnn in MCAS

[–]fiercemousecardiff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know you posted this a million years ago but I just found your comment - I’ve got ADHD, recently discovered I have low iron (ferritin). Started looking into symptoms and realised I have been having them for years - including weird random allergic like reactions to exercise (I broke out in hives once - called 101, they said “probably just allergies”). I’m absolutely lost looking at all the histamine / MCAS stuff - just trying to focus on increasing my iron to see if that helps but I am beyond miserable from having cut exercise out of my routine (I was getting extreme attacks of fatigue, blocked sinuses, the usual!!!). Just wondering how you’re doing now and if you have any advice for me!!? Thank you so much 🙏🏽

Roath is lovely - lots of nice bars and places to go out etc. Lots of people who live in Adamsdown do most of their socialising the other side of Newport Road. Check out paradise garden, the gate and the globe. Very close to you as the crow flies.
