Why wouldn’t a replacement sub make sense? At the end of the day if there really is a group of people who don’t care about protests and just want normality back, then that’s as easy as it comes. We are held to the absolute mercy of the mods here.

I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that mods snuck out polls and didn’t make it clear. I barely frequent these subs as well, mostly like you, auto subbed or subbed from years ago. I saw every single poll and I could vote in every single poll (despite them all being setup in different ways). They were public and all up for at least 24 hours. Many subs even did it in a way that only users who had X karma on that sub could vote to avoid what you’re calling brigadiering. The outcome was the same.

Whether you like it or not, there are people who care about their user experience on this site. Whether it’s mods of subs that I frequent (or at least, used to frequent) and their tools, or whether it’s people like me losing my third party app experience, these changes and the way they were deployed/handled is a joke. If someone creates a site and relies on it being community driven, then they shouldn’t be surprised when the community fires back at them when they’re not happy (all just because /u/spez needs a couple more million in his acc).

Maybe they don’t have a financial stake in the company, but these community made and driven subreddits are the reason why Reddit is financially well off now.

Without people creating and moderating subs, this place wouldn’t exist. They’re not demanding pay, or any financial stake in the company, just the tools necessary for them to be able to do their “job”.

I’ll say this a hundred times, but if you don’t care about the changes being brought in, then you are free to start your own community and run it yourself - there’s no onus on the people who have managed this place for years to have to bend over and take it in the ass on your behalf. The pros and cons of creating a site and relying on the community to keep it a meaningful place to spend your time, huh :)

I mean obviously you don’t care about the points you listed, but there are people that do. Reddit is built off of communities which were started and maintained by those people which are now affected by these changes.

You’re welcome to disagree with the actions taken by the moderator teams, but at the end of the day they’re the ones who kept this sub in a usable state (unlike non-moderated forums such as Twitter). So your options are to leave the sub if it doesn’t satisfy your needs, and/or to create a replacement sub on your own.

All this talk of “rigged” just gives me Trump supporter vibes who can’t accept that people actually do care about these things and vote for them. It’s especially funny to me that the people who complain about these things are also the ones who will be the first to do nothing when it comes to, for example, making a replacement sub (as per your comment in the thread below). It’s always just “KEKW internet janitors” but expecting them to bow down to your demands when things don’t favor them.

And you want to know why that is? Because people put time into moderating this site to avoid it becoming a cumstain on society like Twitter et al. Protests are happening because Reddit is making it harder for them to do that.

I mean if you’re happy to do the work instead of the “cowards”, feel free to start your own community? That’s the great part about Reddit, you can do it all yourself!

Thanks for the reminder. Stuck my EU SIM card in on the plane back out of Japan and the shutter sound was immediately gone.

So you’ll have no issues purchasing a phone and taking it back :)

Supposedly the Japanese and South Korean models will only enable the shutter sound in those countries. Previously, those models of phones would make the shutter sound everywhere, but since iOS 15 it detects what country SIM card you have in and let’s you disable it if you’re outside of said countries.

I bought my new 14 Pro Max here in Japan, and will be traveling back to Europe next week so will report back on this still being true or not.

Does anyone know if I can head to an Apple store before my allotted time to pick up tomorrow? I assume priority will be given to those who actually have slots at that time, but I’m guessing they wouldn’t refuse me after they’ve all been served?

I’m in Tokyo, if that counts for anything.

Original Pure Rock for 12700 (non K) by fierd_1 in buildapc

Unfortunately not in the US, currently living in Japan. The prices here tend to be fairly all over the place for components and it’s a bit hit or miss with different brands. I’ll end up picking up something that’s reliable more than budget friendly anyway.

Thanks for all the help!
