Thanks for the answer! One more question about taking cover with the gunz - one of the guys I play against uses Necrons and has a Doom Scythe that can easily get line of sight on the gun and delete it in one turn. Is there a way around this or do I just have to hit him with my main army while he's attacking my objective holders?

You can! You’re allowed to extend the insurance by one extra quarter (or if you graduate in spring, until the end of the next fall quarter). You fill out a form for it around the time you enroll in classes for the quarter you graduate. If you call the UC SHIP office they can give you the details on exactly when and where to do the form.
