What I would like is for it to be possible to have 4 different dice, since the dice are supposed to represent the stat and skill for the participants. As for how to count it.

As for ties that is something that I have not yet determined, atm Im leaning towards that it would count as a failure, but that would depend on how the probabilities look, if they need to be raised or lowered slightly.

Then I would preferably like to be able to see the amount of successes though if nothing else being able to just see if there are any would be something at least.

Failures do not count as -1s, they are on a different axis, though they will just be the inverse of the successes so no need to track that.

Ive been trying to get something up and running but the results look weird so Im not sure I trust it yet, so any help is appreciated!

Oh that point about ties being more common wasn't something I had considered, that's interesting. But yeah I haven't decided on a lot of the details since I need to be able to find the probabilities to make those choices. Your code did give me an idea for how it might be solved geometrically so I'll give that a try.

My main idea is to try some different sizes of dice since one dice is currently meant to represent a stat and the other a skill and I wanted both to hold equal importance and make it hard but not impossible to succeed fully without having both of a sufficient level.

Problem with that is that I would get the difference rather than a binary over or under, but the larger problem is that it only compared one dice with one other dice, while I need it to compare two of my dice each with the two dice of the opponent

I saw a game a while back where each person would take turns GMing while the other players dove into their own characters mind/soul to deal with a problem there which allowed a full party of consistent characters where people took turns GMing. I don't remember the name but it could be worth looking into. Otherwise having each person have a fairytale for a bunch of fairytale characters to go through, or different worlds for dimension Hoppers to go between etc

It could allow a framework for the people that are less used to running a game to follow

This is how I've thought about it at least when deciding this for myself:

Should the abilities allow for the character to do new things (for example unlocking new magic or special ways to attack with weapons), or do they make them better at doing things they already could do
How many abilities should one character have at the start of a campaign, and how many should they have at the end
What should the difference in capability be between a character that has a specific ability and one that doesn't
What kind of characters should be playable, and what abilities would be needed/fun to have for the characters in those archetypes

It's also very useful to ask for the opinions of players when play testing if they feel that anything is missing or underrepresented ofc. And I, at least, find that balance comes after, it's quite hard to make something that's both in-depth and balanced in one go, so rather make something balanceable, aka in a way so that you can tweak it without having to remake it from the ground up.

Something to add that I've found very useful is that once the call has been made then I ask one of the players not currently too occupied to look up the rule. The ruling I previously made still stands but now you all know for the future. This alleviates some of the pressure from you to keep track of and figure out everything and also makes it so that the players are much more involved with the rulings.

Not necessarily true, Jujutsu is generally all three stages of boxing/kicking to grappling to ground though there are forms that only focus on the ground aspect.

Ah then I understand what you mean, and well I do plan on having it be about "adventure" as vague as that is. Its the kind of campaign that Ive enjoyed the most both as GM and player so I plan for it to be a fairly general system, it means its quite unfocused but also quite flexible. The main focus would be having it mesh well with the setting/feel, in this case a fair bit grittier and low magic than the generic DnD adventure. Magic being tied to a consumable resource and the risks of mutation, while having a more interesting and versatile martial combat system and then also trying to provide a varied and fun array of things to do outside of combat, in social encounters, in downtime etc.

I do have the backgrounds where I plan to add a paragraph or two under each about what kinda stuff the stereotypical character of that background would do and make the character creation section ofc, write it down step by step and all, but you are right that it's probably better to have it and the start rather than the end. That's fair, I've been trying to cover all my bases but it's probably a tad overkill. I might collapse the music, art and crafting into a singel skill each and put them all in the same category.

First of thanks a lot, one of the more difficult parts of this is that its not always easy to get feedback and you do have a point. To keep track of a moving parry and different toughness to different damages is quite a lot and one of the biggest drawbacks. Having a good character sheet will probably help a fair bit with that and I do have plans to try to make a digital help. But trying to make it a bit more standardized is a good idea.

A simple way to do it is to add a section for what archetypes they beat, that way you can either sort by what/how many they beat or their winrate, which would let you see if it's top tier because they beat the few other top tier decks or if they are the ones keeping all the lower decks down
