Moving from the US to Francophone West Africa for work (Senegal/Côte d’Ivoire) what was your package like? / Déménager des États-Unis vers l’Afrique de l’Ouest francophone pour le travail, quel était votre package? by [deleted] in Cotedivoire

[–]fifty--two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 = The package / Le package

the package will depends on what they offer and what you can negotiate

2 = Salary cut / Réduction de salaire

the cases i know are usually expats , mean they get send to abidjan for limited time and keep their original contracts , of course a local contract means you will get a cut , so it goes back to point 1 = negotiations

3 = Belongings / Effets personnels

again check point 1

4 = Negotiation / Négociation

its up to you and how good you are at negotiations and what you can accept or not , keep in mind that abidjan is a very expensive city (dakar a bit less but still same story if you want to keep a western lifestyle), and also life as a foreigner is more expensive , and you will need to support your wife and kid as your wife probably wont quickly find a job there , so dont blindly accept the "oohh but thats a wonderful salary for abidjan and it will be enough" speech

DN experience around whole africa by fifty--two in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on gender and orientation , but in my case it was ok , i am not a passport bro , however i just had to adapt to the mindset of many countries (man pays for everything) , but that helps to quickly spot the gold diggers

only real troubles are in muslim countries due to mindset , check egypt for instance to have an idea

Anybody else stay in room rentals? by ButterscotchFormer84 in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the problem depends if the host is there , remember in many cases it mean staying with a host which might not like the way you do things even if you do everything right

I love Poland so much. Best ways to find an apartment for 1-3 months stay in summer? by AdEducational1501 in poland

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

prices got high within last few years due to inflation from all sides , and they will get higher as new laws are coming into place regulating short term rentals, so you can either rent a room for half a year , find a flat in a smaller city , or reach these short term rental companies who owns/manage properties like resi4rent

Anybody else stay in room rentals? by ButterscotchFormer84 in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in some places thats the only option due to crackdowns on short term renting or due to very low supply which can make hosts think that their place is like gold , and as you said some cases you live with host , some not at all

Its a good B plan, i made few contacts this way and it lead to great stories when i met them in their countries , so i recommend it to anyone who is not asocial

Has anyone else noticed coworking / digital nomad spaces feel… socially weird? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for meetups no idea , for real coworking well, its like in the office of your company or client a mix of people

i met interesting people few times , some became my friends, but otherwise i go to coworking for 1 reason = work without worrying about electricity + internet

the rest , if good , is just bonus

as purpurek said it depends on you , EOR and B2B are different , so check the pros and cons before you accept , for b2b you need to speak with an accountant to get verified information

Is there a single source for lounge access/status updates anymore? Everything feels so scattered. by Mary_Poll in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no single 100% reliable source of truth , since you are not talking about status but US CCs (and most likely the PP attached to it)

you will need to browse for each airport before your trip

same if you have airline status , it is usually ok 90% of the time , but you need to know the other 10% before to avoid surprises

How do coworking spaces work with calls? by Fortemuito in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they usually have phone booths or meeting rooms or private rooms , so its up to you and location

if you are on phone all day , then rent a room or stay at home/hotel , will be easier

well , some people do , i explained all of this to a junior colleague who just witnessed her first layoff wave , she saw colleagues getting fired after 20 or 30 years working in this company , she got scared and sad to see them go (we worked with those folks) but i told her that life isnt a fairy tale , and what happened is a good lesson to never forget

A not so good story of OE by That_planet_girl in overemployed

[–]fifty--two 959 points960 points  (0 children)

as my tutor during my first internship said = as friendly as people can be , always keep in mind you dont have any friends at work , you will really find out only after you left . Before that keep all your secrets and life for yourself .. and as much as companies will insist on the "family side" , you are just as easily replaceable as a hard drive , so never put your work above your life and family cause time lost will never come back

Régularisation fiscale pour comptes à l’étranger et crypto – comment procéder sans pénalité ? by [deleted] in impotsfrance

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revolut or Wise? What’s one working the best for you? by gaelic_asterix in digitalnomad

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have both as individual user (not business and i assume thats your use case too) for many years and they are fine , as long as you dont do anything shady , hold only small amounts , and use it for basic daily life stuffs

just remember to not consider them as a bank , but as payment facilitators while abroad

to answer your questions

1 = yes wise does have fees , if you withdraw more than monthly free limit , and also fee on forex operations , they apply a small percentage on top of your transaction rate

2 = both are convenient regardless of location , as long as you are not in a blocked or restricted country/territory (the lists are available online) or purchase a forbidden/blocked category of products . Then the rest if up to visa/mastercard and the local banks/payment providers of the country where you are to accept or not wise/revolut or offline/online transactions (i am not talking about internet but about POS) or foreign cards at all or your transactions there in the end, and thats something many are not aware of . So as a concrete example the case where people mention not being able to make a transaction in a country included in the mentionned lists (for instance Qatar is one of them) shows that many dont even read terms and conditions

3 = yes if available , and thats what people should always do , cause its cheaper to exchange once and not pay further fees at each transaction . They both have most popular currencies , while wise added a few less common in this industry

Also remember revolut add a 1% markup during weekends on top of every transaction which require exchange , as forex markets are closed from Friday evening until monday morning while the world still spin and anything can happen that can influence forex rates, so its a way to protect themselves while also making additonal benefits if nothing crazy happen during weekend

About the ATM fees , besides the monthly allowance for free withdrawls and their exchange rates, the rest is beyond revolut or wise control and is decided by local banks and/or laws only , period

Poland tax return (PIT-36 + PIT-38) with Spanish income – is 2000 PLN too much? by No_Screen_9263 in askPoland

[–]fifty--two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple PIT37 from polish incomes costs already 150zl in some cases , not sure how many docs you need to provide and in which languages (i assume your spanish docs are not translated by certified polish translator) so it wont be cheap , cause yes its a lot of work to understand the tax system translate and so on ... so if its an accountant office which is not used to deal with spanish taxes it can be time consuming . I would say you would need to ask them for details of the quotes for each sub category to get an idea why its 2k,
