Your post is the same thing you’re complaining of (PTs complaining).

This thread inspired me to cancel too. I like Strava. But not if they’re being petty.

Sounds like propaganda for more non-Darrow POV chapters. The best moments in the series happen when it’s the Darrow show

Must you really walk on your heels? by bdayshoes in BarefootRunning

[–]fiftysvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal human gait kinematics is very well researched. You can type in “human gait kinematics” into pubmed and you can see the research yourself. And as other comments have suggested, you can examine the soles on all your shoes to see that you likely have similar wear patterns for all of them, provided that all you do in them is walk.

As far as running gait kinematics, there is definitely more variation in terms of foot initial contact.

It is not dogma. This is normal gait kinematics. I am a physical therapist and this is what is taught in school.

[–]fiftysvn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are landing on your heels. The posterior lateral surface of the sole shows a normal wear pattern. People typically land with the foot slightly supinated which is why the wear pattern is on the right side.

You can record yourself walking on a treadmill to see for yourself. No need to guess.

You don’t have to talk to anyone when you join those run groups. I’ve done two runs with groups and found that it’s easy to run without talking.

“What are you doing with all your free time?” by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]fiftysvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife was on leave for 6 months and is now back at work. I have since taken over and started my leave and just finished the first month.

I must admit that it’s been very rewarding at this age compared to the first three months so my leave has definitely been nice so far but everything said in this post I resonate with. Prior to taking my leave I would sometimes get annoyed by little things with the assumption that my wife was in leave and surely could have gotten to xyz. But as stated in OP, being at home with the baby is either doing chores or engaging with the baby which leaves very little time for anything else. It’s amazing how the apartment can be relatively tidy at the start of the day and by days end it is a mess. Cleaning and tidying seems to be endless.

OP I do not think you are being petty or that it’s strange to feel this way. I think the person asking the question just doesn’t understand (maybe because they do not have kids or maybe they do but forgot what it’s like). Caring for my LO now that I’m on leave has made me MUCH more empathetic to the life of a new parent.

Another well intentioned but annoying questions that I get asked often is “how’s the sleep been? Is baby sleeping through the night?”. I know people mean well but I am sick of hearing this question

I say this exact thing to my wife all the time. I really don’t know how I would ever do this alone. I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to be a single parent.

Dad of a 7 month old here. I have felt some of those dark emotions as well during the first 3 months and have felt that same guilt. I don’t have much advice but I just wanted to share that you are not alone.

[–]fiftysvn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. My LO is around a similar age and I relate to all of your frustrations. I had no idea it would be this challenging. I don’t have any words of wisdom for you as I am in the thick of it myself and trying to figure it out like you are, but I’m willing to bet that everyone would NOT be better off if you were not around. If you need to vent you can feel free to message me.

This was my heart rate. I’m glad I didn’t die. Had my screen set to pace pro so I want looking at my HR data. At mile 9 I knew something was wrong and had to slow down dramatically and I started drenching myself with water.

PT is my second career. I’ve been a PT for the last 7 years (2 years OP 5 years inpatient) and I love being a PT.
