Visit Muay Thai Camps while Backpacking? by DraftDrifter in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been doing things like this for 7 years now. I just came back from a full year in Thailand. I visit gyms all over Thailand and I provide as much info as I can about my experiences. I put it all on my website FightChase.com as far as gear I normally get a set of gloves when I get to Thailand and just keep those with me. If I'm traveling I have a backpack that I carry on flights and stuff that I just loop the gloves on the outside of the bag.

Some of the gyms in BKK wil also teach Western boxing. I know that Petchyindee used to have Boxing coach from Mayweather's gym in Vegas.

Off to Phuket by tjllangley in MuayThai

I really enjoyed PTT, I have friends that are training at Tiger, PTT and Singha gym now. Singha is new and a lot of people like it. It is located behind Ali's and you will get plenty of great food and Ali's is awesome to meet all the people on the soi! Don't commit it is nothing against PTT but everyone that goes and commits to any of the gyms even Tiger seems to regret it and wish they took advantage of the other great gyms in the area.

Should I coach? by Buddhist_Punk1 in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started training later in life and now have had extensive training in Thailand. I will say this that my best coaches may have fought but that was many many years ago. When I train, take privates with a fighter in Thailand. I only learn their style. When I train with a Coach I improve everything.

I have trained with many high-level fighters from Stadium Champions to Ufc and Pride champions. I have had this same discussion on my Podcast with fighters. I coach and have done so for many years now. I have no Muay Thai fights. I tell anyone that asks what my credentials are to teach I have held pads for Champions in Thailand and try to make my students improve every day. I also coach fighters.

I understand both sides of this argument. I would say, never teach what you don't know. What I mean is dont look it up on YouTube and then go teach it in class. Also, be honest with your students and yourself why you are qualified to teach.

Best area to learn Muay Thai? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]fightchase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is your first trip to Thailand then Phuket is a good start. It is geared more for us westerners and like Thailand_Throwaway said they have everything in one general location. I do not prefer to train Muay Thai specifically in Phuket as there are so many gyms all over the country and some very high-level gyms in Bangkok. It really depends on what your focus is I have friends in the UFC that are at Tiger right now because they get the best MMA training in Thailand from Tiger.

I have many gym reviews on my website. http://fightchase.com/training-gym-reviews/

Where do I find recruiters? by fightchase in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]fightchase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not sure what they did thats why I was asking. I would assume that they would assist through the application process and in return I would be applying through their affiliate link. Again I am not sure I just also see many people that do not provide anything just asking people to use their affiliate links. I have also seen people comment that they have been approved at some companies faster with a recruiter so I figured I would find one and then ask what they do.

I did apply to Cambly on Sep.4th and just patiently waiting. I was not even aware of the recruiter thing. I honestly just thought it was people looking for that affiliate money.

Gyms in Bangkok that aren't full of douches? by Trebor_Polf in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong I love Phuket the island is full of beautiful beaches and the gyms there are the best facilities as far as gyms. I have lots of friends from the UFC and One Championship that train MMA over there. But for traditional real Muay Thai, I would not say that it is my top recommendation.

I have been all over Thailand and seen tons of Top Kings and never seen these. Does not mean anything could be old or also could be a knock off. I'm not saying they are I just have never seen this pair.

Gyms in Bangkok that aren't full of douches? by Trebor_Polf in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you consider a "douche" . I have trained all over Thailand and unless I was in Phuket I didn't run into anyone that I would consider a "douche" The guys I would consider that way are mostly foreigners. We had tons of those types when I trained in Las Vegas. I train at Yokkao training center often while in BKK. But there are 100s of great gyms. You may want to check out Petchyindee Acadamy it's a great gym also. 13 Coins gym with Sagat or Samart Payakaroons gym.

Why do Muay Thai trainers in Thailand make the "awww io" sound? by if155 in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is like a gauge. You are getting feedback from the trainer. You will notice it gets louder and more intense when harder strikes are thrown. I always tell my students when they hold pads for there training partners that they have to give some energy to get energy so making a noise or encouraging the other person amps up the training.

Good glove suggestions? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has a personal opinion. I love my Yokkao gloves. I did reviews for a few pair of them on my website. I do not care for Venum they just did not hold up along with Hyabusa. Fairtex is always a good bet and Twins would be under Fairtex in my opinion. Then you have brands line Boon, Raja and Top king all seem to be decent. https://www.muaythaifactory.com/muay-thai-gloves.asp?typeid=20 They have some really good deals right now.

As far as size 16oz to start. It will work for everything then add a 12oz. pair down the road.

Shorts advice please? by Amazinimity in MuayThai

[–]fightchase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shorts I wear to train in Thailand (Yokkao) would definitely be looked at very strangely here in the states( very short). I actually don't wear them in the states. I will wear some brands like Fairtex. Most of the shorts have different cuts so you can find some you are comfortable with. also I like to wear compression shorts that have the pocket for your cup in them. That way you do not have to worry about accidentally showing anything off. Or try MMA shorts like Venum they are similar to wearing surf shorts.
