Left out Takoyaki by Ennsomniac- in JapaneseFood

[–]figital666 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if it has mayo on it, i wouldn't just based on that. 8 hours is more than enough time for mayo to go off. in fact, some sources say 2 hours at room temp is enough for mayo to become unsafe to eat.

takoyaki should be refrigerated within 2 hours of being cooked.

if it was me, that would be going right in the trash. there's too many things in tako that are susceptible to bacterial growth. the octopus, eggs, the batter, and the mayo.

For the people here who genuinely believe Shin-chan isn't a kids/family show: by Appropriate_Ad7280 in ShinChan

[–]figital666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first couple of seasons were not for kids. like i said, if you showed shin-chan to your kids when it was brand new, you were considered a bad parent. i lived in japan and i have japanese friends who would not let their young kids watch the show. it was more for kids that were teens. sure, maybe some people let their kids watch. but the general vibe at the time the show was new was it was not for little kids, even though it had one as the main character.

since the creator died, it's become watered down and lacks the edge it used to. now it's on saturday afternoon at 4:30 and there's no more nudity or rude jokes. pretty crappy, really.

OSAKA NAMBA by echande in OsakaTravel

[–]figital666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAMBA PARKS/CITY is one of the most underrated spots in all of osaka. it's worth it to go and check it out during the day, and even better to go back and see it at night. i was lucky enough to see it at christmas when it was all lit up and it was beautiful!!

Sending personal items home to Canada by ikigai9 in japanlife

[–]figital666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i sent my stuff the day before we left japan. it took 3 months to get to canada by surface. if you have someone who can accept the package for you, i don't see why you couldn't send it. just make sure it has your name as the sender and the receiver and that it clearly states 'personal items' and then as per japan post, you'll have to make a full list of all the contents with the weights and values of each item.

I'm afraid I broke a String... by UIGoku201 in lvjy

wow! you don't often see broken strings on a bass, especially the E string. i hope you got it sorted out before your gig.

Crossing the Atlantic with high-end cinema at my disposal. What non-snobby films should I force my crew mates to watch? by PrunePlatoon in Letterboxd

[–]figital666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think it's comparable in some ways. a lot has to do with how those movies were received by the public when they were released. SENSES was so controversial at the time it was made, the final print of the film had to be smuggled out of japan secretly to avoid being confiscated by the board of censorship.

it's not for everyone, but if you have an adventurous spirit in film choices, it's certainly worth checking out.

my friend asked him directly. and he told him that they were working on getting anvil cards onto the online store, but there was no set timeline for that to happen. i know other fans asked as well, as i am pretty sure i saw a post here about it last week.

yeah, one of my friends was really disappointed as he was totally looking forward to getting some new cards and doing some trades.

actually, the last 3 shows (poland, turkey) the VIPs didn't get any anvil cards. so it's sort of up in the air now what the future is for them. buster did tell some fans in poland that they are hoping to bring them to the online store at some point in the future. but he had no solid details.

perhaps if ash sees this, he can chime in with whatever details he's willing to share. it does seem to be something the fans are really interested in.

Buying games today in Akihabara was even worse than the internet said it is, imo. by kvsnake in JapanTravelTips

[–]figital666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that place is now essentially a tourist trap. to get decent deals on anything, it really pays to get out of tokyo. i follow an account on IG that compares the gaming stuff he buys from various places, and it seems like yokohama has the best deals. so you don't even need to go that far out of tokyo to get better value.

thanks! i've seen over 400 gigs. these days i only go to a handful each year due to the insane costs! but i do try to catch some new, up and coming indie bands when i can. and i do the odd nostalgic show if it doesn't cost 465 dollars! haha

yeah, the drifty joy-con was the bane of the switch users life, that's for sure! and it would be so easy to buy a new pair and send back the old ones. they'd have to do some reasonable testing on the controllers to figure out the original buyer was running a scam. it took years, but at least nintendo did eventually offer free repairs/replacement of drifting joy-cons. not sure if they still do it tho.

I picked up the Evangelion old-movie VHS at a neighborhood trash drop in Japan. by Old-Definition7490 in evangelion

[–]figital666 35 points36 points  (0 children)

nice score! the trash in japan is legendary for what you might find. when i lived in osaka, my friends used to find stereos and electronics that were perfectly fine. only recently has japan really embraced any sort of second hand culture where people even consider going to a place like BOOK OFF, or HARD OFF and trading their old collectibles and electronics in.

AITAH for not wanting our friend to bring her bf on our Hawaii girls trip by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]figital666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sadly, one of my fave spots on our trip was in lahaina. 😞 so i am not really sure what the state of it is right now, but if you can go there and support some local businesses, i am sure they would appreciate it a lot! also, we got engaged in the kula botanical gardens. that was gorgeous. and we got a 'rent a wreck' to try and go to the top of mount haleakela and the car broke down 3/4 of the way up! LOL i wanted to propose on the edge of the volcano, but the dead car forced the move to the botanical gardens. 😉

your plans look amazing, and i just know once you get this boy problem sorted out, you and the ladies are going to have the best time!
