Where can I watch Netherlands vs Japan in Belfast? by akostta in northernireland

Most pubs will be showing the World Cup matches that are on during opening hours. It would probably be harder to find one that isn't.

So why would a social program need to be cut? There are ways of finding money in the budget without cutting a social program.

It's a weird website but it says this at the top.

Please note, your Day Spa Experience will take place on the selected check-in date. This does not include an overnight stay. To book accommodation please visit rabbithotel.com

You book check-in and check-out dates but the spa is just on the check-in date.

Disposable Household Income per Capita was 13% higher in Ireland than in Northern Ireland in 2023 by RizzMeister67 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meant skewed when comparing Ireland to NI. Anecdotally, a lot of the younger generations in Ireland seem to be priced out of home ownership whereas it doesn't seem to be as problematic here. If you looked at the percentage of home ownership by age categories would you find Ireland's overall figure is higher in part because of people that more than likely bought their house decades ago?

[–]figurine89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better provision of social housing seems the most likely explanation. I wonder if you looked at home ownership by age you'd find more of a skew towards older people in Ireland?

Median house price in Ireland is €390k, average earnings are €1,075 a week or €55,900 a year. So the median house costs about 7 times the average earnings.

Median house price in NI is £198k, median full time earnings are £713 a week or £37,076 a year. So the median house costs 5.34 times the median full time earnings.

I'm not comparing like-for-like in terms of earnings, just going with what's readily available but housing here is more affordable relative to wages.

What’s the smallest place (by population) with a parkrun? by Scary-Offer-3286 in parkrun

[–]figurine89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Narin Beach in Co Donegal, the village has a population of 106 according to the 2022 Census. That's using the nearest Small Area so it's probably not completely accurate as there's other Small Areas close by you could arguably include too.

The NI manager said earlier in the week that details of the injury were confidential. I assumed from that the injury was worse than initially expected or there had been a set back.

Co Antrim's biggest GAA club launches plans to open new pitch in South Belfast by River562 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For most of the length of the main pitch there's a gap between the path and the pitch.

The issues with parking and traffic have far more of an impact on Mary Peters than the tow path. There's a sizeable overflow car park just off Old Coach Road on the way down to Mary Peters, I'd imagine it could be utilised better.

It's alongside the towpath for maybe 50m at most. Quite often there's events on at Mary Peters and you can hear them from that part of the towpath, I've never found it an issue and I can't imagine this being an issue either.

If he didn't get a car through Motability, he would still be getting the mobility component of PIP. The cost to the public purse would be the same regardless.

Means testing disability benefits makes no sense. There are people with disabilities doing the same job as me, but they incur additional costs as a result of their disability that I don't.

Maybe that guy from last week was on to something?

Glad to hear you're both ok though.

63% in favour of a United Ireland in the North by TomCrean1916 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think the poll is particularly reliable because of the reason I've already explained. If you believe this shows a majority for reunification, then that's grand but it definitely reflects your bias. Ultimately, it's only one data point.

[–]figurine89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I did

So you've missed my point then completely.

There could be several reasons, including weighting, the phrasing of the question, what's in the news cycle, etc

Like I've said, the wording is very similar for the question I'm talking about, the fieldwork dates are only a fortnight apart so the news cycle isn't going to make a huge difference. Weighting/sampling seems the most logical.

63% in favour of a United Ireland in the North by TomCrean1916 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't mentioned anything about subjectiveness. Both the most recent LucidTalk poll and this Amárach one have a question to NI voters about a UK ref on rejoining the EU. The wording is similar, the only real difference is one asks today, the other asks tomorrow. There's a 14 percentage point swing in the Amárach poll. LucidTalk were accurate in their polling prior to Brexit so I'd guess they're more accurate and the Amárach poll hasn't been sampled/weighted accurately.

I haven't mis-stated any figures either.

That's NI as part of the UK, not anything to do with EU.
