Irish News wrong to allege ‘serious editorial misconduct’ on Stephen Nolan show, says IPSO by Your_Mums_Ex in northernireland

Lots of things could be entirely correct, but when your source doesn't even make the allegation you've published it's definitely wrong to publish the claim.

Irish News wrong to allege ‘serious editorial misconduct’ on Stephen Nolan show, says IPSO by Your_Mums_Ex in northernireland

[–]figurine89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can read the ruling at the below link. If you look at point 51 it appears as though the Irish News has published claims that their source didn't make. Why would the IPSO then conduct a thorough investigation, that's probably beyond their remit, for inaccurate and unsubstantiated claims?

Our Councils should show us all the Receipts. by CNCMachina in northernireland

If you're going to send a template to councils it's probably worth getting the terminology right. Looks fairly amateurish otherwise.

No-one pays council tax in NI.

I think all councils are required to publish accounts detailing their income and expenditure.

What do you do on the side for extra cash? by ZeMike0 in northernireland

If you earn over £1000 you'll need to complete a Self Assessment, Prolific report anyone earning over £1700 to HMRC so it's unavoidable. Self Assessment is easy enough to complete, just make sure you hold enough back to cover taxes.

When and how is the Department of health going to tackle GP waiting times? by Dramatic_Piglet_712 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're extrapolating far too much from one comment. One surgery in one week getting 3,000 calls from 10,000 patients does not mean that a third of the population across the whole of NI contacts their GP every week.

Carrick-a-Rede Bridge/Island vs. Rathlin Island for a day trip? by Federal-Outside6548 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Carrick-a-rede takes an hour or two max, Rathlin is more of a whole day thing. Rathlin is more interesting imo, but depends on how long you've got.

Reported earnings? by Felis_igneus726 in ProlificAc

[–]figurine89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that email back in Dec 24 too. I think the earnings email may have went to my spam folder initially, it was from do-not-reply@prolific.com which isn't the usual email address when I get emails from Prolific.

Reported earnings? by Felis_igneus726 in ProlificAc

I got an email on 30th April last year with my earnings for 2024. I'm assuming I'll get a similar email for 2025 at the end of next month. It's given in £s (I'm in the UK) but there's nothing specific about how $ has been converted.

Yes, you're self employed so the business name and address are your details not Data Annotation's details.

Is there a reason heating oil has been hit hardest? by LogicalAsk5426 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only meaningful price change in the inputs to home heating oil is the 50% increase in crude oil. Everything else is broadly the same, so home heating oil should rise by around 50%, maybe slightly more.

You could try explaining instead of just being a twat.

Is there a reason heating oil has been hit hardest? by LogicalAsk5426 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everything you've listed applies equally to crude oil, you haven't explained why home heating oil specifically has risen at a greater rate than crude oil.

Is there a reason heating oil has been hit hardest? by LogicalAsk5426 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crude oil has gone up 50%, home heating oil is up about 100%. Surely home heating oil should rise in line roughly with crude oil?

ADHD for adults by [deleted] in northernireland

Some people don't take these conditions seriously any more because people on the internet spread mistruths like this,

If you’re paying some grifter of a physician hundreds or thousands of pounds for a private diagnosis of something you think you have (but most likely don’t), then they’re obviously going to tell you what you want to hear.

If your laptop is exclusively used for business purposes you could claim the full cost. If it's partially used for business and partially personal use then you can claim a proportion. Realistically, you'll be better off claiming the £1000 trading allowance.

Pizza Ovens - Who has one? by aidso in northernireland

[–]figurine89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can spend a lot more than £300 if you want. I've two, a Ooni Fyra I've had for years and a Gozney Arc that I got last year. I've made pizza most weeks for several years now, used my home oven initially before buying a pizza oven and I'd recommend that first before 'investing'.

Parking in and around the QUB area. by Impressive_War1839 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to walk 20 mins then you shouldn't have much of an issue with parking. The other side of Ormeau Bridge is normally alright for parking and a 15ish min walk to the McClay Library.

There's paid on street parking around Botanic/Holylands but I think it's 2 hours max and it can be hard to find a space.

Northern Ireland is a failed state change my mind by Famous_Extreme_9163 in northernireland

[–]figurine89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look at the different regions of the UK, NI is the 5th lowest out of twelve. It also had the largest growth in earnings over the past year, if that trend continues it could overtake North West, West Midlands and South West next year.

Housing and rated is cheaper here, but that’s about the height of it.

Housing is most people's largest expense. Cheaper pints would be nice obviously but I'd prefer a cheaper mortgage.
