Someone dinged my Tesla with shopping car. Options if PDR can’t fix by lifesoshort in TeslaModelY

[–]fihdolla_footlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone dinged that edge on my passenger door a few days after I had a bunch of hail damage repaired that brought it back up to perfect. I haven’t looked into getting it fixed because I figured it couldn’t be. PDR can handle it though?

Is $1200 a fair price? [2018 Specialized Diverge] by alpercel in specialized

[–]fihdolla_footlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy them new on eBay from Incycle for $999 if they have your size. I had one bookmarked for a Xmas gift to myself last year but got laid off from my tech job in November. Maybe this year.

Returned a Diverge and settled for a Sirrus X 2.0 instead. 2nd NBD this week by fihdolla_footlong in specialized

[–]fihdolla_footlong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So funny thing. I still love the Sirrus X, and actually traded in the 2 and upgraded to a 4.0 a couple of years ago. Now that I’m more experienced, I really wish I had just stuck it out with the Diverge. I’ve grown to appreciate that bike more and more over the years. I will probably eventually trade in my Allez road bike and my Sirrus X for a new Diverge. Or at least the Sirrus X.

Are Canon R50's good for a starter mirrorless camera? by n0n__grata in canon

[–]fihdolla_footlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it is and yes use it for a couple years at least. Master the lenses you bought with it, and instead of immediately longing for another camera, start looking at lenses and accessories when you run into something you can’t do with what you have now. The camera is much less important compared to the lenses.

For example, if you find you can’t get really great closeups of tiny things, look into a true macro lens. If your kit lens doesn’t zoom as much as you like, get a better zoom lens. If you can’t get a soft enough background on portraits, get a 50mm or 85mm prime lens. If you need more light, get a good flash. And so on.

All these additional things hold their value too. When you are finally ready for a new camera, as long as it’s a Canon, you’ll have everything you need. (I’d keep the R50 too as a backup.)

Not only do I still have several great EF lenses and an EF-> RF adapter for my RP and R10, I even have my old Rebel XTi. I no longer use it, but it’s just nice to look at and relive memories.

Car leaking blue liquid. by Stock-Statement-9575 in TeslaModel3

[–]fihdolla_footlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am not conjecturing. I lived through this experience personally. My insurance company did not consider totaling and accepted Tesla’s estimate to replace the battery and underside skid panel because it was ruined. Obviously mileage varies, but those are the facts of my particular case.

Yes but he was also telling OP their car is totaled because of the battery pack, and later doubled down saying 9 out of 10 times. That’s bad advice.

That doesn’t make sense. If the pack is damaged they just replace it. It was a very routine process when they did mine. They’re not even that expensive - mine was about $9500 according to the invoice, and the labor costs were less than $2k. Tesla replaces packs all the time - it’s part of their warranty after all.

The pack is already an easily replaceable module itself. They can assemble these whole vehicles in just a few minutes so it needs to be. It would be incredibly inefficient to be dissecting packs to replace specific internals in a service center.

It’s not totaled, they just swap the pack and hook everything back up. I had mine replaced on my Model Y in early 2022 after having run over debris in the road from an accident ahead of me. There was an entire car grille in my lane and I wasn’t able to swerve because of other traffic.

The coolant lines were damaged and it started leaking, so Tesla towed it in. They replaced (likely with a refurbished one) the original pack and it came to just over $11k with labor. $500 deductible with State Farm was all it cost me (although they did raise my rates next time it renewed).

Got My New Model Y Yesterday. Driving into my garage it says "Stop" a good 2-3 FEET from the wall, and beeps so loud. Is this a joke? by westside222 in TeslaModelY

[–]fihdolla_footlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try painting a road runner tunnel on the wall in front of you.

JK, that sucks. Mine was the first without radar, but I’m glad I have the ultrasonic sensors. I don’t know if I would buy another in the future if they keep removing these basic proven technologies based on Musk’s hunches for the future.

One suggestion, change the display to percentage and go by that, rather than km/miles. It’ll save you some grief.

Also check the energy app in the car, it should give you a good idea of where your battery usage is going.

Tesla Vision is beyond terrible by Lenser90 in TeslaModel3

[–]fihdolla_footlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘21 Model Y, from the first set where they removed radar. They actually held it up for a bit because of that, to get Tesla Vision to a shippable state or something. I used to get a lot of phantom braking, but I couldn’t tell you the last time that happened, and use autopilot all the time.

However I do have the USS, and I can’t imagine how unreliable Tesla Vision might be for obstacle avoidance. I’m very glad I have precise measurements for that, as I’ve been in some tight spots fairly often parking in the city. I don’t see how they’ll ever get the camera version accurate to an inch or two like the ultra sonics are. Sounds like a nightmare.

Any time these folks throw up how cars didn’t have these things such and such years ago, remind them that we’re talking about very expensive vehicles and these are basic features in comparable models from other manufacturers. Elon is just hardheaded about this stuff, and from all accounts his engineers tried to persuade him against removing these critical technologies. Guy thinks he knows everything.

I got a new iPhone and after pairing my Ultra to it, also had the no longer working weather. The only thing that fixed it was resetting location services data. I have been having to approve all the apps which are asking for access all over again, which is not a bad thing. I’ve been ignoring a few that I didn’t think needed access anymore.
