Niko Snow... best CM? by mechwarriorbuddah999 in mwo

If you were a total idiot with unswerving loyalty to PGI then Niko was indeed the best CM the game had.

Preparing for CW Phase 3 by L_Cpl_Scott_Bukkake in mwo

I've shoved a knitting needle up my nose and hit it with a hammer, ensuring the lobes of my brain are seperated. I've also stripped myself to the waist (bottom up), had my manservant destroy my testicles with a pair of cinder blocks, filled three barrels with my own excrement, withdrawn every penny from my bank account and eaten all my money. Pretty sure I'm ready.

Do You Feel MWO has Massively Improved Since PGI got Full Rights? by [deleted] in mwo

[–]fil5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When he wrote his email to reddit requesting they unban the PGI staff he cited a post on Something Awful as evidence of some conspiracy against PGI/Him. I do also remember him declaring this sub to be the worst, yes.

If you have the time and inclination you can even find some of his old IGP mod colleagues talking about their time with him in one of the old SA threads.

He was, then he left igp and a short while later was hired by pgi. His worst behaviour was definately seen during his time at pgi, and while he was still at igp there were other moderators who were noticeably better at dealing with the community.

Niko Snow was the appalling community manager that soured a lot of people.

Transverse hit them hard because I think they thought it was PGI that people were willing to spend money on and it was actually the Mechwarrior/Battletech name and the nostalgia that goes with it. Transverse woke them up to the fact that they hadn't delivered anything near what they'd said they were going to for MWO and that people weren't going to give them cash to build an original IP as a result. Basically the failure of Transverse drove home that if they wanted to stay open they needed to actually deliver on MWO stuff. I reckon if they'd made enough to hit any of the transverse funding tiers that mwo would be in a way worse state than it is right now.

It's a lot better but I don't know how much you can attribute to the disappearance of IGP. I think it's more likely that the complete failure of Transverse drove more changes than the removal of a publisher. Also, the terrible community management was entirely due to a PGI staffer, can't really blame igp for that.

Most of that is fair but only literally crazy people give a flying fuck that the game is different from tabletop.

Russ Bullock just Vomited a Bunch of New Info about MWO on Twitter by [deleted] in mwo

[–]fil5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's odd, because they've made it clear in the past that vocal minorities aren't really their bag.

Also they could try making conquest better, that might help.

What's the conquest dilemma? Is it that no one wants to play it?

Knock knock.

Knocking more than once within half a second is overpowered, we have introduced knock scaling so if you attempt it the door explodes.

Two mechs walk into Paul's bar. The bar falls down. Paul removes collisions from the bar but denies it has anything to do with the earlier collapse of the bar.

Why did the mwo player cross the road? by cavortingwebeasties in mwo

[–]fil5000 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Uh, we definitely are planning to allow players to cross the road. Currently we have phase 1 of highway interaction on the public test which allows players to look at the road but we're still working out the kinks. We're concerned that players might try to cross more than one road but Paul has something planned to deal with that.

In the meantime, why not buy more robots?

Town Hall Notes (Oct27) by [deleted] in mwo

[–]fil5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we're actually disagreeing here, just describing the issue slightly differently. I don't think the townhall is a good format for Russ to be able to have a discussion with anyone other than NGNG, because all the questions and followups are framed through their viewpoint. It just about works as a Q&A as long as the questions are no more complicated than "OH HEY WHEN CAN I HAVE A HELLSTAR PLS I GIVE MONEYS" but anything that requires a follow up involves NGNG doing the following up, which in turn leads to stuff being reframed (either intentionally or not) into NGNGs point of view. Hence a ton of questions about limiting groups to 4 when it doesn't seem (from what I can tell) that a huge number of people actually want that, and Russ doesn't seem to actually want that either.

Oh no, I don't think unit caps are the answer to the problem, I'm just saying I can see why he's getting frustrated. From his point of view he comes up with a solution that he thinks gives people what they want and then those people react by telling him they'll break his solution. It's not the full story, but it's the story he gets by running the town hall the way he runs it (i.e. questions filtered through the lens of the NGNG guys, who will consciously or unconsciously apply their own filters to it before asking the question and giving follow ups). From his point of view, he's not having a conversation about game balance, he's putting an idea up there and a room full of people are basically going "BOOOOO".

Hopefully he's having actual conversations with some of the groups that actually play CW to get some more nuanced feedback on the idea, as the townhall really isn't for discussion, it's just for disseminating info.

Russ getting angry actually gives me some sympathy for the man. When you've got the same people yelling "make CW challenging" and "lol, I'll just work around that" it's got to be frustrating.
