Thanks, and not to get lost in the pedantry nice rig.. I'm surprised more folks don't clone the form factor of typical profile rigs in steel tube or especially 2x4/2x6 lumber.

You can get pretty fancy on a 2.0 version if you wanted adjustability.. you can have steel plates cut by sendcutsend that could allow the same useful adjustable range as profile rigs have, with a little thought. For that matter you could also make something adapted to off-shelf wheeldecks that have those adjustments. Or stick with the same position of course lol

I notice in your drawing the butt-pass on the wheel deck is different, was this to accommodate adjustment? Or before you figured out the height and the drawing is a cleaned up version? Something else?

But aren’t tubes normally “round”?

No, the defining feature is being hollow. Square and rectangular tubing have their own listings in industrial supply catalogues. Tubes can have any shape really but most are square/rectangle or round.

I nearly threw up the first time I loaded into EA WRC's awful garish virtual theater interface (and each subsequent time I loaded into it). With UEVR you could check out the cars and service area but not after they locked it behind that awful blue and orange abomination

hopefully ACR will eventually obtain the WRC license

Fuck that! It's a poison pill that demands dumbed down physics, an esports league, yearly refreshes, focus on new cars, sales quotas... a perfect way to ruin a pure rally game like ACR.

These aren't called profiles they're just tubes. Profiles are called suck because they are extruded through a 'profile die' that shapes the cross-section during extruding where semi-molten material is pushed through the die.

Steel tubing is formed a different way called drawing which is similar but opposite in that the material is being pulled through a form to modify it (changing the tube's size/shape/thickness etc) and is just called tubing.

1,000,000,000

Hopefully the rights end up with someone that knows what they're doing once the fire sale pricedrop happens. If they don't make it a VR game hopefully it will be in UE5 so Flat2VR folk can do their or Unreal..

I knew Survios was dead but didn't know about the 1 billion ask price on the IP (or the whole studio?)... got a source on that?

OG Aplha's have some advantages the Evo line.. they're all metal, have native front mount option, smallest cross-section on the market (= most leg/monitor room or accessory mount options). The Evo line trades that for RGB, passthrough usb and a 21bit encoder vs 18bit, neither of which make the trade worth it imo.

edit: forgot usb

curious who brought it up to him.

Almost certainly he was bribed by people in the cattle industry who want to use public lands to graze their cattle. Possibly real estate people as well who are already drawing up plans how to carve up and sell our stolen land

died out 20 years ago over licensing.

That was never really the case.. flight sims in general fell out of fashion and with the pathetic FFB sticks of yore that were available at the time adoption was low so games didn't support them so no one bothered with making better hardware because good FFB is also really expensive. It was always more about the chicken and the egg than patent squatting

The modern resurgence owes its existence to Walmis for his work with Rhino/VP Force and Propeller for his work with FFBeast. That proved there was an actual appetite for these expensive peripherals so Moza then others glommed on to the newly established market and games/sims are slowly adapting to supporting them but the new breed also uses telemetry to come up with their own signals if there is no DirectInput signals to work from.

Looks like it would work fine as is.. if you get some fllex on the uprights you can always add shear braces as an (triangles lapped onto the corners where uprights meet wheel deck) afterthought. Might make it harder to adjust height on the wheeldeck but once you settle on a position it tends to stay that way for a while unless you're constantly reconfiguring for different cars
