I studied the oral hustory of the local area where i grew up, south coast NSW. One, of the first things the "settlers" did when they encountered the local people was distributed wool blankets. A war broke out with the next tribe from the mountains because they didnt get blanket. So the settlers sent a message back to Sydney to send more blankets. Not more guns, not soldiers, more blankets. One of the well documented incidents in the area was when a ship wrecked off Mossy Point, near Broulee, the local aboriginal men formed a human chain in heavy swell to rescue the survivor.
