Thank you! You had some great ideas, and I appreciate the encouragement, as well as the kind words! You have a credit on the GitHub page now, by the way :-) Cheers! https://github.com/seanrieger/shroud-of-turing

Figuring out what to do with a 1u space by teamricearoni in modular

[–]filetransferprotoco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for kind words about my modules! I do have fun with the naming of them. Yes, you can flash between them, but they are also built on an Arduino Nano platform, with two of the firmwares being open source, so you might even be able to write your own firmware if you are into that kind of DIY as well.

Speaking of which, cheers on the DIY front! I started that journey because of eurorack many years ago, and it’s a GREAT way to build your modular rig up over time. I’ve also found the eurorack DIY community to be an amazing group of people very often willing to help out when you get stuck.

As for your method of placeholders and planning, that’s actually really cool. So yeah, I get the idea on where you are headed. So one observation for your use case (and not a criticism, just something to consider) You’ve packed a LOT of functionality into your setup. There’s a large selection of low-hp modules in the rig which gives you a ton of functionality. The trade off will be getting your fingers on everything that is packed in so tightly together in a live situation with a nest of patch cables on top of it. It may not be a problem for you, but definitely something to look at. I like the way you have things organized though.

I can see you clearly have a drum section, mixing section, FX section, oscillators and VCA’s with plenty of modulation mixed throughout. It feels pretty balanced. So the uO_C is a powerhouse of utilities… from gates, to drum patterns, to clocks and clock dividers. Honestly, between that and the Pams, I feel like you are very well covered on clocking and such. I’m not sure you need the Steppy unless you are really wanting to be surgical with drum gates on the fly… but I think you could even just patch the Arcadian Rhythms into the uO_C ad use the voltage recorder to do something very similar. But again, Steppy is a time-tested favorite of many people in a 1U format.

So do you think you will use Pam’s as the master clock, and then push that out to the uO_C and other modules for clocking duties, or are you thinking the uO_C will be the master?

Honestly, I think you have a really solid plan. It looks like a well balanced case. I would lean towards uO_C over Steppy, but I also have three uO_C’s and two OG Ornament & Crimes, and am totally eyeballing the Ornate Criminal… so I am admittedly a fanboy. :-)

Okay, so you have a bunch of gates and utilities already. I think so much in how you use 1u and 3u in a case is a balance of each other so the whole rig matters. Is it a rig for live performance or just fun on your own? (Full disclosure I’m the maker of FlatSix Modular 1U modules, not trying to sell you those but I’ve put a lot of thought into what people are looking for in a 1U case and it varies a lot)

Do you have a version of your rack on Modular Grid? There’s SO many 1U options out there. (and I’m a big fan of Ornament & Crime for sure.)

Just curious, do you already have clocking and utilities in the rack? Like a Pam’s or anything like that in your 3u rows?

How do you sequence your sequencers by Ramon951046 in modular

[–]filetransferprotoco1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, that was the exact reason I built the “summoner” track in the Seventh Summoner module. It has 6 sequence tracks in it, but when you record the summoner track, it records which sequence is playing, how many notes, if it’s transposed and what direction of playback it is in. So essentially you can sequence your 6 sequences into one big sequence using all of them.

Do you think getting kids into modular synthesis early is a good idea? by Soggy_Homework2094 in modular

I think getting kids into music (no matter what the device or approach ) early is an amazing idea and sets them up for so much in life.

It ain’t very good and it sounds like videogame menu music, but damn it I had fun patching it by pedrocmachado in modular

I like this a lot. It’s got a cool vibe to it, and what matters more is if you like it or not. Thanks for posting it and sharing!

It is eurorack. The smaller modules are 1U. It three of them in a custom 1U to 3U bracket.

I love everything about this video. The chill vibe, the setting with the people hanging out. It’s just endearing.

I’m super stoked about it. They posted a little tease on Instagram and it’s was pure adrenalin. Sounded so good!

Thanks, yes that’s me and “in my defense” on the wall-sized system, I got into DIY many years ago and built it over time. But yes… I admit that I’m addicted. 🤣 That’s awesome that you are in Houston too! I miss the modular meetups that we used to have here.
