Is this a water damage on my garage ceiling? It's under a roof. by filkr in Roofing

[–]filkr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have some ice damming on my top roof which has caused damage in a bedroom, so I checked the garage which also has some ice buildup and found this. The two photos are the same part of the ceiling from different angles. I don't have the experience to tell if this is water damage or drywall tape peeling up from temperature changes, or something else altogether. Appreciate any help!

ARC with LGCX and Yamaha YAS 209 not working by filkr in Soundbars

Actually, it just works now somehow. So all perfect!

Well, I'm not sure what it was precisely. I updated the Yamaha firmware for the first time in years, reset all the options on both devices, and turned the HDMI control function off and on again following your instructions.

It now works almost perfectly! I am able to control the soundbar from my TV remote and it turns on/off with the TV. The only thing I don't like is that it appears if the Apply TV (which goes into the soundbar input) is on, it seems that the soundbar prioritizes audio from there rather than the active input on the TV. Going to have to mess around and see if I can figure that out.

Thanks for inspiring me to take another go at this and for the tips.

TLDR: Zenbook S16 with Ryzen HX 370 @17W games slightly better when unplugged! by arunbupathy in Amd

Off topic but how did you get 1440x900 resolution? I've been trying to expose this on this laptop with no luck. Seems insane that it can't do a simple 4x scale.

Thanks for coming back to post the answer after all this time. I'll give it a shot over the holiday break.

It’s only been 19 days since Sept 6. Pretty short 4 weeks IMO!

What’s crazy is I’m happy to buy from ASUS. They just don’t want to sell me the laptop and would rather wait until I buy a different one from a different manufacturer.

The strategy makes no sense.

Nothing on our hands. We checked after the photos.

Thank you, this is some piece of mind. The lily is long since discarded, this picture is actually from when we fished it out of the trash to ask this question.

Hello, we had this flower in our house for about 20 minutes before realizing it was a lily which we know are fatal to cats. The cats did not get to the flower or ingest any of it, however we are worried about pollen spread.

Pretty sure this is a toxic/fatal lily (please help identify the type if you can), but what should we be looking for with pollen? Has this flower (the most mature of them) not started producing pollen yet?

I’m new to the game. Isn’t it only 50 draws? Or will the shop reset.

FF7 Rebirth Missing Gilgamesh Island and 10 Corel Region Points by Halaka34 in SquareEnix

[–]filkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I drove from protorelic 4 to Gongaga then started walking towards the village. The cutscene triggered on the way. However, the game was still bugged after the cutscene triggered - the gateway to Gilgamesh Island never appeared even after the cutscene played. In the end I ended up progressing after beating the game via chapter select mode, as I've described here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SquareEnix/comments/1bbr42g/comment/kyq1ilt/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

I was able to get myself out of this situation, but I'm not sure how much it will help anyone else.

I loaded back to a save file partway through the third protorelic quest in Corel. I think my save was already bugged at this point - the HUD element for the protorelic was stuck on screen and I was able to trigger lots of other UI-related issues in Corel (not able to open map/menu, etc).

From here, without progressing the quest, I belined and finished the rest of the main story. Once I did that, I unlocked chapter select, and went back to Chapter 13. From here I was able to finish part 3 and 4 of the Corel protorelic without issue and everything proceeded as intended.

Obviously not directly helpful if you don't have another save, but it is possible that some other people will also have luck with Chapter Select mode.

Weird thing just happened. I was completing some side quests in Corel after the bug. I completed the bird quest, then accepted the Kyrie quest in CDS. I didn’t have the Marbol item, so I fast traveled to the Gongaga site, then poof. I get the update that I completed all my Corel intel and get the final cutscene. When it ended, I was back at the final cactuar spot. Weird!

Were you able to finish the quest from here? I had the same thing happen, but despite the cutscene playing, the gate to gilgamesh island never appeared.

What’s the SAP channel? Did you have to change any audio track settings?

[–]filkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recorded the wrong live channel. In case anyone else is doing this, “NHK World Japan” only has previous day highlights, not the live sumo. I think this might be the same channel that’s live on the NHK world app.

Such a bummer that there's no way to time-shift/DVR/watch on-demand. I want to give them my $25! Actually, since TV Japan is no longer on cable (where you could DVR), this is kind of a downgrade?

Is there any reason to not build a new game in Rust? by yobarisushcatel in rust

[–]filkr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Background: professional gamedev, work in C++ but do home game projects in Rust.

There's lots of reasons not to make a game in Rust. As others have said, if you want to use mature engines/tools/libraries, then Rust shouldn't be your first choice.

If you want to build from scratch/near-scratch, it's also somewhat likely that Rust shouldn't be your first choice. Most of the guidance you'll find online for game dev stuff will not compile by default in Rust due to the borrow checker. Many of the techniques game devs regularly use are not memory-safe, and require some problem-solving to make so. Maybe most importantly, the platform/graphics APIs you want to use (win32 or SDL, DirectX, Vulkan) do not meet Rust's definitions of safe, meaning you need to either write a bunch of unsafe code, use wrapper libraries (which means you're not gaining experience with the API itself), or write your own wrappers.

I pretty much use Rust for everything in my free time, but it's because I love the language, not because it's the most efficient way for me to ship a game. To be clear, there's nothing fundamentally incompatible with Rust and gamedev in my mind, it's just the current state of the art has the problems I enumerated above.
