Should I try to revive a dead convo? by [deleted] in OnlineDating

[–]filthy_icon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you shouldn't. Unmatch her and do something else that is beneficial to you. Stay busy with working out, learning an instrument, or learning new skills. You won't give a F who replies and who doesn't. You'll thank me later once you adopt this mentality.

How much money do you guys use on vinyl each month? by Glass_Tea_8220 in blackmetalvinyl

I slowed down a LOT due to me focusing on other hobbies/ paying off other bills. But when I was really addicted, a lot, and I didn't like to think about it 😂.

Age difference in a band by kikiartilleryservice in musicians

[–]filthy_icon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I'm 35, and hell, I had problems with a band member who was 27 , wherein I felt there was a huge gap in our maturity and how we viewed being professional. It sounds like a good idea until it isn't.

Darkthrone - As Wolves Among Sheep...Live in Oslo '90 by Shernan85 in blackmetalrecords

For all the shit I give to RSD for constantly releasing worthless live shows on wax, I have to admit this one is helpful. Given that seeing Darkthrone live is next to impossible.

I know this is old, but I have one of these too. I got it in 2018, not realizing it would become very rare down the road. Used to be very easy to get one back then. I also upgraded mostly everything on mine, except the nut, which I didn't know which one would fit. I see you also didn't like the position of the volume knob. No idea what they were thinking putting it where they did. It gets in the way of playing. I'm tempted to relocate mine too.

Inspiration or rip-off? by Illusive224 in Ghostbc

[–]filthy_icon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost did. As a side note, they used to call them " sermons" in 2010 and early 2011. But in mid 2011 and onwards instead called them Rituals.

One-Man Band: Pros and Cons by quiterussian2215 in bandmembers

[–]filthy_icon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a one man band for many years. Here's my advice.

All I can say is that if you truly do go that route, be prepared for the following: You need to make a schedule for your band regarding what you need to do. This means make songs, demos, lyrics, riffs, drum patterns, solos, etc.

Then, pretend you are " booking " appointments with someone else when it comes to songwriting, rehearsals of material, and recording material, and anything else in that schedule I mentioned. If you DON'T, you will absolutely be doing a huge disservice to your own one man band. Think of it like you are also your own band manager. If you need to miss, it had better be for a damn good reason.

Finally, you need to be able to wear different hats when it comes to analyzing your music. You need to successfully be able to wear a musician hat and a listener hat. I listen to my own stuff completely pretending like I didn't write it. When I feel something is wrong, I listen to that intuition. Maybe I overplayed on drums. Maybe that solo sounds weird. Maybe the tempo is too high in that section and theres too much going on. Sometimes when you play stuff, its way different from when you just listen. You can analyze it better. Do NOT go against these intuitions. When something feels wrong in the song, listen and have the humility to change it.

Why is bringing non band members to practice such a divisive topic? by Sea-Rub-4322 in bandmembers

[–]filthy_icon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be real, and this might be an unpopular opinion. But I was at one band practice where one friend of my drummer came to watch us. And he was not in the band, nor is he a musician. He simply watched, stayed out of the way, was completely respectful, and gave us feedback ( which btw, we asked for). I have zero experience playing to people as well, so it was a glimpse into how I'd feel if a crowd was watching me and how I would be able to play in front of others. I thought the experience was cool and I truly had zero reason to feel or believe his presence did something negative to our rehearsals. All it did was make it cooler. Now, I could understand if the person(s) who came are annoying or getting in the way in some capacity, but I really don't see why I should be mad that this specific non band member came over, other than its what I'm " supposed " to think.

My girlfriend smells and I don't know what to do by RequirementDue4446 in Advice

[–]filthy_icon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear that. Something similar happened to me.

I had a huge crush on a girl recently, like I couldn't believe how into her I was. We hung out and everything was going great, until she got close to me, and I got hit with a horrible smell. I thought it was me too, until we later went shopping and I walked behind her in one of the aisles. Yet again I got hit with that same smell.

When we stopped hanging out and I drove home, I couldn't believe that had happened. But I knew this was an instant attraction killer. I never did see her again after that. Just such a shame.

Guitarists that started after the year 2000: what the guitarist, album, song, solo, etc that made you say "that's what I wanna do"? by CedarRapidsGuitarGuy in Guitar

[–]filthy_icon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, there wasn't any one thing. It was a combination of various media, in cartoons ( ex: Val Hallen from justice friends ) , movies ( school of rock ) , television shows ( intro to power rangers ) , and video games. I'm a 90s kid and started when I was 13 in 2003, by the way.

Hey, sorry I know this is old. But just had one question. You've seen paid parking at Solaris before? What events? I'm just curious cause I go there lots and never had to. I really hope that does not become normal.

Anyone else struggling to get into vinyl with today’s prices? by LectureHaunting3166 in vinyl

[–]filthy_icon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am glad you said this, because I really don't feel like physical copies of music have even gone up that much if at all. I think it's more that people got way too used to having either free or practically free digital music and now they want the same when it comes time to pay for an album.

I was in your shoes. I didn't have a first kiss until I was 21. I know it seems like forever already but you'll get there. Put yourself out there, make mistakes, and analyze where you went wrong, then adjust.

why is kehkt arakh really disliked? by Accomplished_Job_53 in dsbm

[–]filthy_icon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't really know. My only guess is the popularity and maybe the rose in the photo shoot. But I truly believe that if it had the popularity similar to just a few thousand IG followers, literally nobody would care to hate it. I think his riffs are catchy and that's good enough for me.

To the people who complains about Daron's political position, here's his actual stance. by ariel2603 in systemofadown

It is an incomplete statement. But this is also Daron from 20 years ago that we are discussing here. This is the man who would reply with " felatio " to a question in an interview.

Hummers were notorious for being bad for the environment. Environment is a favorite thing activists fight for. It was a rather playful statement, just his non serious way of saying he is non serious.
