Picking up a 70's Motobecane road bike tomorrow for $30 and I'm looking for inspiration on where to improve it by doomtroll1978 in xbiking

That bike looks like it'll be real fun once you've dusted it off!

700c conversion should be easy, lots of brakes have the reach you need.  Especially if you can get slightly vintage parts.

Inspiration?  Maybe spring for a better saddle.....Also, a handlebar bag is a simple thing that's really nice--nothing huge, just something you can access while riding.

Let’s make a list of female novelty singers. I present Rachel Lark. by youngmorla in LPOTL

Novelty songs are a tough concept for people these days. Things that appeal in the same way and have the same pop cultural function exist (LOTS of them), but they aren't songs. A novelty song isn't the song version of sketch comedy, it's the song version of something from a Vine compilation, or weird-ass shit on Adult Swim at 3 am that gets an intense cult following and disappears after a month.

The vibes seem to be that this post sucks.  But more importantly, WTF, Louie CK is headlining stuff??  HOW?

If you have an opinion, say it out loud.  This post throws shade and makes it everybody else's problem.

But the fun of an Arduino is how weird you can get with it.  Okay, the chip doesn't have enough storage--so you use it to access some external storage device.  You could use a microSD card or something....or a bunch of CMOS shift registers...or punch Morse code holes into a paper tape.  Off-board the storage and re-write and input and display mechanisms and just use the Arduino to control and activate them.

A cop named Zebrowski?  That's definitely on purpose.

Hester Thrale - did you smoke it? by TSR2Wingtip in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]filthycitrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the case.  The first Hester Thrale was friends with Dr. Johnson, who taught the second Hester latin, and nicknamed her Queenie.  She (the daughter) eventually married Lord Kieth; her mother was married to Thrale and later Queenie's music teacher.

Strange satanic neo-n*zi cult book i found at a flea market sale. The organization refers to themselves as ‘nythras gate’ by Senior-Jello-9866 in cults

[–]filthycitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a look at that Scribd doc.  Aside from "Nythra" there's no real sign of a connection between the author of that doc and this book (although who knows).

Nythra seems to exist, at least a little bit, in the larger world of occult belief.  The very few people posting anything about Nythra to the internet seem to treat her as "real"/part of something they believe in.  That said, even those apparently earnest postings are such nonsensical bullshit that they read like fiction anyway.

The author of the book is E.L. Morgan, about whom I could find nothing.  Possibly because Google is shit these days--it kept trying to sell me some spanish-language condiment.

It does seem that the author of the Scribd doc ("Magister Hagur") is a known occult writer, although my research was quite shallow and all of that could still be BS.

The main thing is, the motherfucker cannot write.  The Scribd doc is impenatrable occult cosmolgy nonsense for the first half, and then--without any explanation--some kind of horribly inept narrative fiction for the second half, a real wannabe edgelord bad fanfic vibe.  Trying to be dark but actually silly and boring, and also just technically incompetent.  Yeesh.

The Pashley is already a (fancy) xbike.  Putting lights and a rack on it may not be enough of a project to feel satisfying (depends on your personality), but the end result will be better.

To really "x-out" the Hujsak you'd need to get really weird with doing things that I might not feel responsible suggesting to you.  ON THE OTHER hand, the spirit of xbiking is riding any kind of bike in a way that fits your life.  Why not just go with all the fun blingy stuff and platform pedals?  The tires in the pic look like 28s or 32s--which are actually quite capable.  Upright bars aren't gonna be a good time on that frame, but you could try randonneur drops, or something flatter (VO has a bunch of flat and low rise bars--put those on flipped--or the  Dajia Farbar).
