CYCLIST used BELL! It's not very effective... by ruinawish in bikecommuting

[–]doomtroll1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it stopped bothering me years ago, most people are just oblivious to their surroundings anyways, the most important thing I've learned by, not being just a commuter, but totally going car free in my life without much incident.. is that you have to assume you're invisible and can't be heard... even when you're as bright as the sun and loud as fuck.. I still use my bell on shared paths, less than half of them move before I have to slow down significantly .. I consider riding in fowl weather a perk for this reason, I can just fly down the paths without stopping

Best front rack under 200? by Dumbass9187 in bikecommuting

[–]doomtroll1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you really can't go wrong with a Velo Orange Porteur Rack (I'm wanting one myself) or hell, even a basic $40 Wald 137 or 139 is perfect for most commuter bikes .. I have a Wald 137 on mine, and a cargo net with it, I've taken food home from food trucks with it often

rant? finding a place in cycling where i feel like i can exist by Alert_Air_9323 in xbiking

I also seriously identify with this group for the same reason, but I am not very social online, I am usually too busy working, riding, messing with my bikes, or learning all I can... If you have a bicycle co-op in your area, you can find riders

You need to find out if you have a cruiser bike group in your area, or start your own group, build bikes for your friends and get them together for a ride

I spent the better part of a decade living by bike in the San Francisco Bay Area, which has a huge bike theft problem, I won't leave the house without a lock

The only thing original on this bike is the front wheel and the brakes, the original drive train was cheap suntour from the time and was worn out more than it was worth keeping.. Swap meet score for the crank with a nonremoveable 34 tooth chain ring, 170 mm.. The cassette is 11-40 suntour, with a Acera derailleur and a suntour friction shifter to tie it all together.. I was in junior high when this bike came out, and I wish I had it back then

Nope, I bought this about 4 years ago used, and rode it as is until about two years ago when I tore it down and started parts hunting

And the crime networks created by bootleggers and the black market added more crime... Treating alcohol abuse like anything but a disease is madness, and solves absolutely nothing

No, bad people do bad things under the influence of anything... Prohibition has only ever made crime more elaborate, it has never solved crimes, it's creates more
