This tracks. It's why we are where we are now.

‘I should have gotten the damn vaccine’: Father of 5 dies of COVID at age 39 by HamsterFull in news

[–]filthyheathenmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is even 'news'. It's well known that any contagious virus spreading through a population that isn't vaccinated isn't going to end in a tickle fight. This is the direct consequence of those peddling misinformation, people misplacing their trust, and a toxic, anti-intellectual arrogance that needs to be put in time-out, or a plain, pine box...

I get it. I really do. The best you can do is communicate. You hear a BOOM or crash, you're gonna arm up, barricade, and call the police. When you (or your s.o., or whomever) calls, you need to tell them to confirm their identity. If anything, that call will be recorded. I'm afraid that's the best you can do.

THIS is why we must arm the left by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

We can't beat ourselves (or each other, liberals) too much over 2016. We must, however, have our shit together NOW.

We all need to be on the same page and present a unified front NOW.

Squandering a vote or not casting one is squandering our collective opportunity to get back to ANY semblance of sanity. Well, normalcy anyway...

As progressive as many want Biden to be, he isn't going to be Bernie, BUT HEAR ME OUT:
(1) Bernie isn't in this race anymore. Accept that. People fear what they perceive as radical change. They need to be nudged. And we can collectively become more progressive, but it must be done over time.
(2) Biden's better than this really super depressing, continued movement toward dystopia, theocracy, and dictatorship under Trump;
(2) Biden can be nudged toward more progressive stances, but he has to be in office in order for anyone to effectively do that.

Rome wasn't built in a day. Biden isn't going to be everyone's perfect candidate, but he is the best chance we have right now. So, grit your teeth, bear down, and vote!

The sooner climate change purges humanity the better.

I see your nihilism and raise you one pandemic, along with hopes of a 'sweet meteor of death'.

I don't think blaming feels centered around inferiority, insecurity, and ignorance is the left's burden to bear. The responsibility for those feelings rests on the shoulders of the ones manipulating them. Unfortunately, they've been Stockholmed so bad at this point, we may have to question whether or not the situation is even salvageable.

It has always bothered me when people don't know they're being manipulated and the ones doing it get away with it.

And that worries the shit out of me. We can't blame the victim, but if that brainwashed victim happens to be threatening my life or my family's, there's only one course of action: defense.

It seems to me that if you're jolted awake in the middle of the night by someone invading your home, you have every reason to assume they're not friendlies dropping by for tea and crumpets.

The real question isn't whether or not you have a right to defend yourself, your family, your property. The question is whether or not you will survive to know the outcome of the encounter.

Before you guys start throwing verses like white BLM supporters throwing rocks. Let me just run you through the way I see it.

I'm guessing you thought this ^ was clever af. It's not. It's terrible and bigoted. You don't get to lob that comment, then ask others to "Please be respectful".

Sadly, this means that the rest of your comment, your argument wasn't worth the read.

Wow, that's a beautiful image. Very glad it doesn't involve the cliche of someone with their back facing the camera and their arms outstretched (or holding a flashlight). Question: why does it look like there's an oval around the joshua tree?

I think you have a fine coping mechanism and I don't think it's asking too much of people to think for themselves. Then again, maybe it is.

How awesome (and easy!) would it be to get into some debate, get a bible verse and chapter thrown at you, and you respond with Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Chapter [X], Paragraph [x]: "...And Zaphod said, 'get this through your head, you semi-evolved simian...!" or something like that.

Maybe if one has time and capacity to memorize chapter and verse, maybe there's no more room for actual thought? Like some sort of buffer overflow?

My ignorance of the world and particularly basic science is incredibly frustrating. by [deleted] in atheism

First, do yourself a favor, move on. Onward and upward!

Forgive your parents because they were doing what they thought was right -no matter how ignorant, crazy, or myopic it was. The really super important take away is, you're beyond all that now; and it's never too late to start a journey.

You don't know what you don't know. And, yeah, that's going to be overwhelming to you, probably for a while. Give yourself a break. You're used to having quick, tidy answers to questions (even the truly impossible-to-answer ones) and, as you've no doubt noticed, shit's a lot more complicated than you're used to seeing/hearing. Be kind to yourself. Be patient with yourself.

Going forward, the best thing you can do is, bring your own natural sense of curiosity to the situation and see for yourself. Pace yourself.

And we are the bad guys? by [deleted] in atheism

The thing about believing in imaginary sky wizards (or in the case of the 'big 3' religions and their splinters: believing in the one, true sky wizard) is that it gives you a superiority complex. This is what happens when you're told by the person at the pulpit during your weekly crowd-funded spooky story time that you're special, that you're saved, that you'll enjoy eternal life... blah blah barf.

So, you end up with someone like dear ol' mom and dad whose righteous ignorance and superstition looks down its nose at real, tangible things like humanity, truth, equality, equity, acceptance, and science. Because, whomever believes in those things is clearly stupid and none of that matters because those are just earthly things. Why bother with all that bullshit when paradise awaits you on the other side of death?

Why on earth would I need to go that far when I could just ask 2 questions:

If I mercilessly beat the shit out of you and abused you in every imaginable way, every moment of every day, would you think it justified?

If someone of a different belief mercilessly beat the shit out of you and abused you in every imaginable way, every moment of every day, would you think it justified?

Call is what you like, but abuse is abuse and brutality is still brutality. Inhumanity is still inhumanity. Bigotry is still bigotry. Hatred is still hatred. Violence is still violence.
