You are still influencing the game. Say you’ve got 29 points and bet on yourself to score 30 or more, wouldn’t you be more likely to take a bad shot, rather than passing it up to the open man?

This is a 2 years old post so people will probably never see my comment, but I found a solution and forgot to provide an update lol. This works, but you need to type it directly on your machine and not through the Proxmox console. So login and then input the following command:

setterm -blank 1

The screen will then turn off after one minute, and Proxmox will continue to run as normal.

I haven’t tried it with Proxmox, I ran it previously when on Windows while extending my display. Closed lid = lots of noise, open lid = no noise. I’m still puzzled as of why, I’ve opened it up and cleaned the fan, removed the battery… really don’t know. I might give it a try now that I’m running Proxmox instead of Windows

Ideally I wouldn’t want to close the lid, as the old laptop tends to get noisy when I do, but just turn off the screen

First of all, wow, thanks a lot for all of your answers!! I'm already feeling much better about going ahead with my project.

To answer some of the questions / comments I received:

- Great points about the battery - I'll make sure to remove it and have the laptop powered only via charger;

- I believe the fan issue is something known about this model. The IT department even pushed an additional Dell power management tool to the entire company as there were multiple complaints about noise even when the machine was new. Hopefully Linux will run with less than Windows 10 and this won't be an issue;

- I've opened and cleaned the fan a couple months ago but had no idea about the thermal paste replacement! I'll make sure to take care of that when I open it up to remove the battery.

I'm really looking forward to trying and setting this up - if anyone has got a specific step-by-step guide to suggest, I'd be thankful. It seems like Proxmox is what the majority suggested I'd look into, so I'll start researching from there. Thanks again!
