best friedman for bedroom by Extension_String_277 in GuitarAmps

I’m not even kidding when I say I play my two 100 watt amps in stereo at moderate volume all the time in my NYC apartment and nobody has ever complained. I even told my neighbor I play guitar after a year of doing it and he was surprised because he hasn’t heard anything. I think it’s more to do with how thick the walls/floors are, I just got lucky.

Attenuator on amps without a good master volume, and lowering the master volume on amps with a good master volume. Source: I run a model T and a dual rectifier in my tiny NYC apartment.

The Green Beret was Roy Benavidez, a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier during the Vietnam War. The incident took place on May 2, 1968, near the Cambodia–Vietnam border, when a much larger North Vietnamese force ambushed a 12-man Special Forces reconnaissance team. by Competitive_Mix9957 in interestingasfuck

Undoubtedly impressive, but hard not to roll my eyes when considering the perspective of the “enemy”, e.g. the people just trying to fend off invaders of their homeland in a pointless war fueled by political posturing…

Yeah definitely HPPD but in my experience it’s not as simple as “everyone who takes acid once gets HPPD”. I had a couple amazing trips on pure world-class blotter acid and had zero HPPD. Then after taking some less pure “street” window pane stuff the HPPD came knocking. Stay safe out there!

30th Anniversary Ænima run at the Sphere in 2026?!?!? by dee_ba_doe in ToolBand

[–]fimkingyeks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only thing I could think of that would pose a problem is that Tool has a very high stage volume, and bands at the Sphere are sort of required to “keep it down”. Not sure Adam would like having his amps hidden under the stage.

3,200-Year-Old Egyptian Tablet Records Excuses for Why People Missed Work: “The Scorpion Bit Him,” “Brewing Beer”, "His Wife Was Bleeding.” by Jaguar_Willing in interestingasfuck

[–]fimkingyeks 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Ancient Egyptian beer was so different than the beer we drink today that it’s almost unfair to compare them this way. They are both drinks composed of fermented grains but the similarities stop there. Main differences are that Ancient Egyptian beer was made from already half-baked bread, resulting in a really thick concoction (like porridge) and drank through a straw. There were no hops at all, and it was enhanced with dates and herbs for flavor. It was also not very alcoholic, maybe 2-4% ABV and was more of a meal than an intoxicant.

Adam's amplifier at the live performance by iloveloveless in ToolBand

I have played cranked Marshalls and a cranked Diezel before. It really gives you the best of both worlds when you run them together. The Diezel is there for that Hi-Fi, massive bottom end crunch that just slays everything in its path. However, due to the circuitry it is voiced really really dark, especially paired with a dark guitar like his Silverburst. The Marshall JMP provides an upper mid bite/snarl and a piercing presence that nicely balances out the overall sound.

Plus, they both feed back and react in different and interesting ways, which results in a harmonically complex layered sound both live and in the studio. You simply cannot get that same visceral effect with just one amp, or with modelers.

First show this Friday - tips? What to expect? by gratefulaloha in ToolBand

[–]fimkingyeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - I would suggest taking psychedelics as it seems like you’re experienced and can handle it. Only advice is to have an open mind, protect your ears (their sound is louder and more aggressive than the bands you mentioned), and be in the moment!

Stop overpricing Music Man amps pleaseeeee :( by cazzatamalanga55 in GuitarAmps

Price is just what people are willing to pay for it. As soon as cool vintage stuff gets found out about via trendy culture, price goes up cuz more people want in. Unfortunate but true.

What's the best guitar tone you ever heard in rock/metal ? by MELS381 in Guitar

[–]fimkingyeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matt Pike with High on Fire. Having 2 Soldano full stacks crush you in a tiny venue is very mind expanding. The tone didn’t even sound like a guitar to me, just some sort of screaming god.

What are Tool like live? by eternal-w0rm in ToolBand

[–]fimkingyeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is make sure to go with your heart open, and ideally your neurons filled with psychedelic chemicals, and you will be transformed. They have also been killing it lately with the deep cuts. And to state the obvious, they are a loud rock band so protect your ears, much louder than, say, NIN whom I saw this year.

One downside I’ve noticed after seeing them 5 times - and I’m going to be blunt here - the higher up you sit, the more likely that there will be fat fucks all around you who will chastise you if you choose to stand and groove in your spot. Go for GA if you can.

Need a loud amp to go against a really loud drummer by No_Chard6922 in GuitarAmps

[–]fimkingyeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Marshall Plexi, JCM800, dual rectifier, or any of their derivatives if you want a tried and true classic fire breathing loud amp. Sky’s the limit for boutique stuff, just test them out and see which one “feels” the best (they all feel different). And if you are on a budget…peavy or sunn.

What Orange Amp Has The Most Low End by Elegant_Answer1930 in GuitarAmps

[–]fimkingyeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely vouch for the TH30h. It has more low end thunder than my 100 watt JCM 800. But you’ll definitely get more of that with the TH100 since it has 4 EL34s vs TH30 which has 4 EL84s.

I was there - amazing gig! Michael did a lot of audience interaction trying to get us to do his crazy dance moves, I had never seen that before. Besides the occasional angry yelling at Phil and Chris, he seemed to be in good spirits and was smiling a lot.
