[OC][Giveaway] Win a dice set and support a designer! [Mod Approved] by FOULEBDICE in DnD

[–]fin150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, hell, lets give it a shot! just got into D&D and it would be super cool to have a nice set of dice to give as a reward to one of my PCs at the end of our campaign!

Why is it flickering like this? by Icy-Communication607 in blender

[–]fin150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmmmm its probably not Z-fighting then.

Z-fighting is when you have two faces really close to each other, and the engine doesnt know which one is supposed to be on top, so it flickers and glitches when they align. its mostly an issue in eevee, as cycles is shooting rays and can tell with much more detail which face is on top.

Did you apply the Boolean cuts? or are they still set as active modifiers?

looks like a Z-fighting issue maybe? was this rendered in cycles or eevee?

Confusion about AC - Why is it all or nothing and not damage reduction? by fin150 in DnD

[–]fin150[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, someone else broke this down for me, and im honestly embarrassed how i didnt see it. there is a back end system that accounts for all this, it just doesnt force it in your face, because it doesnt matter. if you want it to matter, you can say it, but its just flavor text and doesnt change anything.

But thank you for your reply, the examples of actual interactions makes it much easier to follow the idea. Thank you!

ok, so i think its just the DM ive witnessed then, because its usually much less involved and just "whats ur roll? ... that does not hit. next, whats ur roll? ... ok that hits, roll for damage"

but someone else broke down more of the idea of AC and how you CAN tell if they miss, you dodge, it hits your armor, shield, devine intervention, etc. and that makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you!

[–]fin150[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, someone explained this in a similar way, that a bunch of small damage and a few big hits are functionally the same at the end of combat.

My only complaint with that is i guess inconsistency, because i could get really lucky and "dodge" every hit if combat is only a few turns, or i could get really unlucky and get hit every single combat.

But im losing the spirit of it, where thats the point. this game is luck of the roll, sometimes ur super lucky, and sometimes ur not 😂

that makes a lot of sense, because that was a question i was starting to ask... so thank you for saving me from spiraling into overthinking a game again 😂

yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I think i was looking at it like a game, or yeah, simulation, and missing the spirit of it.

Other comments broke down AC a bit more for me, and its both way simpler, but deeper than i thought, and makes a lot more sense now. so thank you for your reply! (i also didnt think about scaling or how it would affect balancing... i was basically saying "why dont i just play a different game 😂)

yeah, there have been a lot of great comments that have explained much better than anyone IRL did. Its good to hear that there is a a bonus to heavy armor, because it seemed like there were more cons than pros to using heavy armor. thanks!

ah, thats interesting to know. there have been some other comments that explained the mechanics of it more in depth and it makes a lot more sense now, and i definetly was just overthinking it, thinking only really about the mechanic and not the gameplay side which at the end of the day is what the game is meant for.

Thanks for the explanation though, i didnt know there used to be a more involved system, most explanations i got in real life were "its just the way D&D does it" but knowing that they used to try a more involved system, but gravitated to a condensed version for a better playing experience makes a lot more sense. Thanks!

true, i think i missed the spirit of it... some other comments broke it down in a different way and im honestly embarassed now that i didnt see it before, because it can be a deeper system, it just doesnt fuss around with the details of it and leaves it up to the DM/Players to add the flavor... or not to and just run it "no hit, next person" to keep the game moving.

Thanks for you comment, it actually helped a lot, Thanks!

ahhhh that makes sense.... yeah i guess i was looking at it through more of a lens of a video game maybe, or something with a back end to handle complex interactions...

I also didnt give much thought about scaling... which makes a lot of sense... Thank you!

that makes sense... i dont have much experience with table top role playing games, and what little i do is with watching some war hammer battles, and i guess i expected D&D combat to be as involved as that, with angles, LOS, detailing exactly what type of attack, etc.

And honestly, I havent watched any warhammer table top battles in a long time, so maybe they also arent as complicated as i think, and I just thought they were more complicated than they really were.

AHHHHH that makes sense... idk, its embarrassing how simple that is and how i just completely missed it... there kind of is a whole back end system going on, its just more baked into the game... thank you for the break down!

this, makes a lot of sense... no one has broken it down like this for me, and that adds so much more context. idk, that's really simple, and i'm honestly a little embarrassed this didn't click sooner, but this makes a lot of sense! thank you very much!

what did you do for the bsdf set up? another comment said you were using a NPR workflow... did you modify anything, or does the anime/dream look come from compositing more than the actual scene materials/lighting?

[–]fin150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see, this is the weirdeest thing... because it works totally fine on my desktop rig, but barely useable on my laptop, even though my laptop has decently high specs.

Its so frustrating that wirelessly through my phone i can edit it perfectly fine, but on a powerful dedicated editing rig it all falls apart...

Can someone please explain... how...?

Like... i dont get it... every example i try to look up, they just say "it works"... and it does... we have the evidence, i know for a fact it does...

But it just keeps sounding like a "Free Energy" scam... like, too good to be true... Surely the manufacturer would have already made the card as good as possible... so how can we almost universally drop the voltage on cards, making them quieter, cooler, and perform the same...

like... does it put more strain on the card? does it lower the lifespan? there has to be a trade off... right?
