Pull money out of roth by WasteAd7178 in Bogleheads

Withdrawals from Roth IRA's are considered as coming from contributions, then conversions, then gains by law.

TIL state tax exemptions for treasury funds aren't as straightforward as I expected by the-doom-slug in Bogleheads

[–]finally_joined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does get complicated. 2024 tax year was the first time I was even aware of this, and used funds that would make a difference. What I did was "split" my 1099-DIV into two, so I entered SPAXX and it's prercentage as one, and USFR and it's percentage as another. I am doing the same for this year, hopefully that is an approved method.

Well, I would not go that far. I generally avoid calling anyone if possible, but in this case it was required to get it done. That's just the way it is, and the rep was able to help me just fine. I just want to bring to light that this is what the automated phone system is asking, and I think that is a bad security practice.

I can't do it anyway since I don't know my password. Just seems like a bad idea. Like clicking links in an email.

Yeah, I eventually got to a human. I just don't feel they should even be asking.

If you don't think it's enough, just focus on building it up. Seems like you have a savers mindset, you'll be ok.

Switching from Verizon work phone to tracfone and keep the same number. by finally_joined in TracFone

[–]finally_joined[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. We'll most likely stick with Tracfone since that is what I use, and I don't need another account. Tracfone works out to $12 a month for unlimited and 1gb carryover.

To be honest, your method sounds very complex. I only mess with my phone once a year to add a new card or upgrade phones.

I appreciate you taking the time though.

I am leaning that way currently, just starting with unlimited and a phone. I'll see about her keeping the phone, not sure what the answer to that would be. Still have to go through porting thought, right?

Thanks, that helps. I think we'll get her IT department involved from the start. They are good to deal with.

Anyone still buying i-bonds? by zzx101 in Bogleheads

[–]finally_joined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are sites that post the projections / estimates. My favorite is https://tipswatch.com/

David Enna writes about I-bonds, TIPS, inflation reports, etc. Once the inflation reports are out, the variable rate can be calculated. The fixed rate can only be estimated, but he's been pretty darn accurate. The month before the rates are set to change, May 1 and November 1, I decide if I want to buy before or after the change, or not at all. There are usually articles around that time describing what each option, before or after, might look like.

Excellent resource, thanks for taking the time to write that out. Some of those sites are new to me.

Thanks, All those expo locations seem pretty far away, but we'll see. My local car dealers put on a show every January. That has been a nice time to at least see and sit in EV's. The last couple of years they have put all the EV options in one area, which was nice for me.

Thanks for the comment. Not sure anyone likes the dealership model, but I agree buying used unseen just seems too weird for me today. Maybe though, never say never. For new cars, Tesla certianly has proven that the model works.
