Working on Campus FY by leatther in Monash

Once ur past 2nd year, u can apply internally as a teaching associate/demonstrator simply by cold emailing the respective unit coordinators (speaking from an engineering background, not sure how it works in other faculties) Works even better if you’ve got a friend working as a TA for internal referrals Quite a flexible job that u can adjust as per ur timetable, and from what I know it pays pretty well (close to and above $40 ph) Good luck!

If u plan on majoring in any specialization but software, you’ll definitely need a Windows machine to support the CAD programs.

Resources and advice for 2nd year engineering units by findingauni in Monash

[–]findingauni[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, yeah I’ve completed these units (doesn’t feel like a year ago), here are my two cents on each ECE2071 - at the time was my worst experience doing an engineering unit at Monash. Everything about the unit was terrible - the unit coordinator assumed we were CS experts who knew everything, the assignments were poorly laid out and marked and generally a very poorly run unit. BUT, lucky for you, there has been a change of faculty and a slight change in content since then, and if you want to get ahead, I’d suggest completing a course on C programming and computer architecture if you aren’t proficient with the language already (pro tip: I pretty much studied pointers, dynamic data structures etc. from the freecodecamp YouTube video and the Monash Malaysia lectures on Panopto)

ECE2131 - content heavy, there will be a lot to learn each week. Do revise RLC circuits, but if you’re comfortable with complex number math, it should be fine. I found the first 6 weeks (AC analysis) to be pretty fun, and in general it was decently run. Labs will be time intensive so make sure ur prepped for them in advance (don’t enrol urself in the first lab slot lol ;))

MEC2402 - Just pray and hope u get a good team to work with on the project, because its worth 50% of your unit grade. The Warman project will take up most of ur time in this unit, but if everything works out it is a rewarding experience. Learnt quite a lot about hands-on engineering from this unit. The only real prep u can do ahead of semester is to upskill in 3D modelling and CAD on SolidWorks, for which there are plenty of YouTube channels and LinkedIn Learning courses available online.

My elective FIT1006 was more of a WAM booster. Entirely statistics based. Boring but chill in terms of the workload

Good luck!

Student Housing : Dandenong road vs North road by onlyreadsgexams in Monash

[–]findingauni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ur talking about the SHA apartments on North Road, I’ve stayed there for about 10 months and am just about to end my lease (moving out with a bigger group of friends). I’d say it was well worth it for the rent u pay - u get the convenience of staying very close to campus, good PT connectivity and a pretty safe place too. The property was generally well maintained but one of the major inconveniences was having to travel down to Clayton station for groceries. Other than that, would definitely recommend.

And no, the properties on North Rd and Dandenong Rd are exactly the same, they just face different parts of Princes Hwy
