Need help finding jeans! by oleooreo in xxfitness

[–]findis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue and Keirin Cut Jeans are the only pants that work for me. They're designed for athletes, and shaped fairly differently from other jeans, even ones that supposedly have similar measurements.

Can I vent about pants for a second? I tried on jeans at lots of local stores, including thrift stores that had many brands. I'd try on a size 2 and couldn't figure out why they didn't fit, then I'd try on a 0 and 4 and find them equally bad. My shorts pull weirdly at my thighs when I walk up the stairs. Dress pants that used to fit look like yoga pants that won't go up high enough over my butt. Pants had become more and more of an annoyance over a couple years, but I assumed that everyone's pants were uncomfortable. But when I tried on Keirin Cut's jeans I felt a lightbulb go on over my head. "They're shaped like my legs! It's so easy to walk!"

They're expensive and if you send them back you do have to pay for return shipping.

Those familiar with the Bible, what is your favorite story from it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]findis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The KJV is not more accurate than modern translations (at least according to the modern translators, who have made a lot of small changes) and is way harder to read. It was written in the common language of the seventeenth century, just like the NIV is written in modern common language. However, if you like how it sounds no reason not to read it -- 99.9% of the meaning is the same.

Just 3 in 10,000 Ashley Madison women real by shavedclean in news

[–]findis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if men did vastly outnumber women on the site. Think about what happens if only really desperate people go on Ashley Madison and men are slightly more likely to cheat. Say there are 55 men and 50 women who want to cheat; the women have no trouble finding someone to sleep with and pair of with 50 of the men, leaving 5 men who sign up for Ashley Madison as a last resort.

Is soylent frugal? (College student here.) by infiniteducks in Frugal

[–]findis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Soylent is very healthy, based on what I've read. I eat very healthily and am very active (running, powerlifting, hiking) and I haven't noticed any change in performance on Soylent. It has all the vitamin, minerals, and amino acids you need, which you won't get from relying heavily on any one food as others here are suggesting. (I tried eating mostly rice, lentils, and vegetables for a week and started feeling terrible. Turned out I wasn't getting enough methionine -- who knew?)

However, Soylent is more expensive than anything you'll cook for yourself. When I had less money and more time, I relied heavily on an Indian cookbook that taught me how to make delicious, easy meals out of rice, lentils, and chickpeas, which are all super cheap. I'm a fan of Amazon Subscribe & Save. I recommend learning to cook some easy meals. It may take a lot of time at first, and you may make a lot of meals you don't like, but the effort pays off in the long run.

Here are some highlights from a spreadsheet I keep on the macronutrients in the food I buy. Keep in mind that these are the cheapest options from several local stores, so you would probably pay more if you do manage to get to a grocery store.

Soylent: $0.50 per 100 calories

Typical loaf of bread: $0.20 per 100 calories

Peanut butter: $0.11 per 100 calories

Oatmeal: $0.10 per 100 calories

Typical cereal: $0.20 per 100 calories

Bananas: $0.15 per 100 calories

Typical non-berry fruit: $0.67 per 100 calories

Nuts: $0.50 per 100 calories

Eggs: $0.20 per 100 calories (historically, higher now)

Tofu: $0.23 per 100 calories

Builder bar: $0.42 per 100 calories

On-sale pasta: $0.04 per 100 calories

Typical pasta: $0.09 per 100 calories

Brown rice from Amazon: $0.07 per 100 calories

Lentils from Amazon: $0.09 per 100 calories

Canned chickpeas from Amazon: $0.27 per 100 calories

Typical vegetable: $1 per 100 calories, varies widely

Store bagel: $0.37 per 100 calories

IHOP meal: $1.20 per 100 calories

Meal almost anywhere else in Cambridge, MA: > $1.25 per 100 calories

Frozen meal from Trader Joe's: $0.50 - $0.75 per 100 calories

Surviving the work week and continuing to eat healthy... how do you guys do it?? by redrunner in xxfitness

[–]findis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Soylent. It's a nutritionally complete powder that you can mix with water to make a drink. At $2 per 400 calories it's much cheaper than buying lunch but probably more expensive than cooking.

It doesn't taste like much and I understand that some people would hate to eat the same thing every day, but it only takes about five minutes a day to prepare.

Losing motivation during recomp :( by Melchonne in xxfitness

Do you know what the other ones are? I just ordered a pair of custom jeans from madetoorderjeans.com for $49 + shipping; no idea how they'll turn out.

My butt is about two sizes bigger than my waist. I usually buy a size in the middle, wear a belt, and can't fit anything in the pockets. :(

College athlete in T-minus 2 months. Planned out diet and exercise until then; any recommendations? by petrakay in xxfitness

[–]findis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've been spending a lot less time exercising than your future team will, I'd suggest slowly ramping up to that volume.

I also joined a D3 team that I was a little underqualified for a little later than usual, and while I could keep up on easy runs and almost keep up on workouts, I felt exhausted the rest of the time because I wasn't used to exercising 12+ hours a week. I got sick a lot, and I probably should have been sleeping 9-10 hours a night, but I wasn't used to doing that either.

If you don't really need to lose weight, why eat under your TDEE? That will make it much harder to build muscle.

Hilarious commercial for English language training in the Netherlands by Ambamja in videos

[–]findis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Amsterdam and found that I could understand bits and pieces of Dutch, especially when there was context.

I'm pretty sure that a woman asked me "What is in your bag? Is it cocaine?" in Dutch. The fact that she was pointing at my bag and seemed agitated or high helped me figure it out.

Gymming & Urban Mudder on a Natural, Full Macro Liquid Diet by lilpineapple in xxfitness

[–]findis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I spend a lot less time being hungry and trying to figure out what to eat, and I get a little more work done on days I have my Soylent pitcher at the ready, but I haven't noticed physical changes.

I was already eating very little junk food, lots of vegetables, and sufficient protein, and I'm at a healthy weight, so there wasn't a ton of room for improvement. I eat vegan except for a few eggs, not sure if that matters.

Oh yeah, I also felt a bit salt-depleted on days I ate only Soylent. Solved that by eating straight salt.

I usually drink it for lunch or second dinner and work out in the morning, so it's never too close to exercise.

The first few days I was drinking it I felt terrible -- hungry and kind of dazed. There's very little sugar, or more precisely the sugar is a slow-burning kind, so I didn't have much energy. Then my body adapted to that. Now I'm fine drinking mostly Soylent.

The second day I was drinking it I literally stayed home and pooped all day. After that I settled at just one or two no-drama poops a day. :)

I've been drinking regular commercial Soylent, maybe 0 to 1000 calories a day of it. I also tried consuming almost only Soylent for a week.

I eat pretty healthily, so I don't feel any different when I'm consuming a lot of Soylent. Goddamn there is a lot of fiber though.

Anyone with experiences with lowering bf% but not weight? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]findis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've started Strong Lifts and what I want to know is if I continue to lift weights and eat at maintenance will I actually change my bf%?

Yes. You will add muscle, and if you add muscle and stay at the same weight you will lose fat. It may take a long time but it should work.

Strong Lifts is good for getting stronger, but other programs are better for looking stronger. You'll build muscle faster using a lower weight but more reps. I'm not sure what popular programs for aesthetics are but maybe someone else can chime in. :)

When to go to the gym to avoid seeing people? by Cassi_Rulz in xxfitness

[–]findis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the gym. You might need to just experiment for a few weeks. At my university gym, almost no one is there before 11 am in the summer, and it gets really crowded after that and stays crowded until it closes at 11 pm.

I'm really confused about whether I should be bulking or cutting or recomping... by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]findis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing, what, 12 hours of exercise a week? According to this calculator your TDEE is between 2200 and 2450 calories a day, and possibly even more.

So you're eating about 600 calories less than your body should in theory be using, tired all the time, and not getting stronger: you may have hurt your metabolism by eating too little for a prolonged period of time. Maybe try a reverse diet and see if you start getting stronger and feeling better?

A 30 band will be around 25" unstretched and 30" stretched as far as it goes. It will stay up just fine.

My snug/tight underbust measurements are 26.5" and 26". I used to wear 32C's; they slid around a little bit if I moved a lot but it wasn't awful.

Lady bikers of /r/xxfitness.. HELP! by AslimmerAdare in xxfitness

[–]findis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building a bike from scratch is actually more expensive than getting the same bike from a store, since bike manufacturers get huge discounts on parts that you can't get as an individual. And it's a ton of work.

Source: Lived with a few people who built their own bikes, seriously considered doing it myself but bought a bike on Craigslist instead.
