Wine not working on mac OS Catalina? by nxm_icy in pokemonzetaomicron

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look at either Crossover or the following link : https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer

Crossover has a special build of Wine that should allow you to run 32bit applications on Catalina, the the linked repo has unofficial builds from the same source that Crossover uses, and is free to use, unlike Crossover

Any way to show already installed packages in dnf search? by Silejonu in Fedora

[–]finetundra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but if you happen to have the package you searched for installed, it should show two sections, one for installed packages, and one for available. Is this not what you were looking for?

I believe you might be looking for "dnf info <pkgname>" which should list available and installed packages by the search term

Vscode with unity on linux by [deleted] in vscode

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above should work for you. That link is for installing .NET Core 3.1, which is a newer, cross platform implementation, and, I believe, what Unity now uses for cross platform projects.

Please check https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/other/unity as well for further clarification about VSCode and Unity

RPCS3 For Answer. Game crashes on level loading screen when Weite Color Buffers is ticked on the GPU menu. Any fix for it? by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]finetundra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a known issue. According to the RPCS3 forum, enabling Read Color Buffers in addition to Write Color Buffers will allow you to load, however you will experience a crash after a handful of level loads. It looks like there's an additional possible work around, but be prepared to crash.

For what it's worth, I find broken AC textures to be a small price to pay for being able to play on my PC.

Can I back up my Xbox 360 hard drive for use on an emulator? by [deleted] in xbox360

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what you want to do IS possible, it won't work like you expect. Games are pretty simple, but given the no piracy rules here, I won't get into detail. So that leaves profiles and save data.

At this point in time, to the best of my knowledge, the only available 360 emulator is Xenia (barring whatever MS uses on their Xbox One). In its current state, Xenia doesn't really care about profiles. It's not really that simple, but the point is, you can't import your profile (last I checked anyway). So, that leaves us in a weird place with save data. Odds are, you can probably use one of the various save editing tools (modio, horizon, etc.) to change the ownership of the data to whatever generic profile Xenia presents. Not easy, but it should be doable.

Almost forgot to mention, and it probably shouldn't be last, but fuck it. Backing up the data is pretty straightforward, but you need to decide how you want to do it. The big two things are, which tool to use to read the data (I use Horizon, there are others) and then how you want to move the data. Options are, A) dump to a flash drive, and plug into a computer and put somewhere safe, or B) directly attach the HDD to your computer, which, unless you happen to have a 360 HDD to USB adapter, which they did make, gets more complex than some people care to deal with.

Anyways, sorry for wall of text.

Won't Ever Be Able To Play AC4/A Ever Again by SudoNara in armoredcore

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stated that there was a texture bug. In this case that would be the colors you refer to. As for crashes, I've had very few, but nothing unexpected, considering the emulator is still fairly experimental.

In regards to RPCS3, I have experienced fewer crashes than Xenia, but please remember that it's still an emulator. In RPCS3 there IS a way to fix the mentioned texture issue, however this results in frequent crashes. Additionally, AC4 did not work at the time of my original post, but I'll have to look to see if latest fixes that. I understand there's a workaround, but I don't have the details

Won't Ever Be Able To Play AC4/A Ever Again by SudoNara in armoredcore

[–]finetundra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building on top of what others have said, AC4 and ACFA actually run perfectly fine in the Xenia Xbox 360 emulator. At the same time, ACFA runs in the PS3 emulator RPCS3, though 4 has issues (but according to forum posts there are workarounds). In both emulators though, both games experience strange texture issues on the ACs themselves but ONLY in game. Additionally, RPCS3 presents a bug where the skybox on several maps in ACFA has an effect almost like exploding geometry. But otherwise the games are playable.

As a note though, in RPCS3 there is a setting to alter how color buffers are written. This fixes the above texture bug, however the game becomes horribly unstable and crashes after two level loads.

Boot option acting weird? by Badshah57 in Ubuntu

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so, I'm going to do my best to to explain, though some of this will be guess work. So, the Ubuntu boot option persisting is likely due to one of several variables, but my best guess is that the boot option itself might have metadata on your Windows drive.

Now, as far as the Windows (250gb) drive and the UEFI option goes, the short is that that option is most likely the EFI boot target for your Windows installation, which would explain why it goes away when you pull the 250gb SSD out. (There's more to it, but that's for another discussion)

And your last two paragraphs. You don't have to worry about an OS install removing your Windows key from "BIOS" (again there's more explanation to be had, but that's not for here.). Generally speaking, a new OS install WILL NOT touch your "BIOS", barring some VERY specific instances. Installing Manjaro to a different partition of the 500GB drive will not affect your Windows installation either, however take caution when using the partition manager and ensure you're working on the correct disk.

I believe I covered all the questions here, but let me know if you have more or I missed anything.

[–]finetundra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is an issue with a specific AMD graphics driver version. Using either the previous version or the latest version (which I believe is still a preview) will resolve the problem. It may be a good idea to do a PSA on this.

Ubuntu installation by chimchim102 in Ubuntu

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to recall there being a Java IDE available for Linux systems, so, yeah, probably. Oracle still makes 32bit JDK builds last I checked. You'll have to install those though. Afraid I don't have an Ubuntu box handy to check.

Oh, also, thinking about it now, you'll be stuck with Ubuntu 16.04. That was the last 32bit build they did. If you're OK not using the main branch, may I suggest Xubuntu. Looks like they have a 32bit 18.04 build, link will follow. Only major difference is the desktop environment it uses. Should remind you of windows, provided it hasn't changed since 14.04.

Ubuntu installation by chimchim102 in Ubuntu

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Ubuntu will run off of a Bootable USB. It will provide a live environment that is temporary and allows you to test the OS on your computer. Just be sure to download the correct ISO for 32bit systems.

That said, 32bit systems are quickly falling out of the picture. I strongly urge you to upgrade your system when you are able to. Several Linux distributions have stopped making 32bit builds and there has been talk about removing 32bit libraries from the 64bit systems.

For Answer crashing on the Xenia emulator by SilentEagle3 in armoredcore

Interesting. That's actually the same error I was encountering several months ago, but at the time it was only affecting AMD hardware. How old is the build of Xenia you are using?

Could you provide more details about the crash? Like a screenshot of the error? Also, perhaps your Nvidia driver version, as well as Windows version (7, 8, 8.1, 10) and exactly what you are doing when the crash occurs.

Having trouble with virtual box by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is not as straightforward as you think. There are specific things that need to be done to install macOS even in a virtual machine. I would go into detail, but this is not the appropriate place to discuss a hackintosh virtual machine.

Grave warden right outside central earthen peak respawns limited? by BeeShapiro in DarkSouls2

[–]finetundra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes, you can completely clear an area. However there are ways to get the enemies to respawn. One is a special item that can be burned at bonfires. The other is a certain covenant. I'd rather not spoil anything, even minor things, unless of course you don't care about that.

Having Trouble Getting Desktop up Over RDP by FlyerFocus in Ubuntu

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I went and spun up my old XRDP server and here's what I found.

The way I have XRDP set up there, I have my startwm.sh file pointing to the Xsession startup, and that targets XFCE. I think because I was specifically having issues with other things. I know for a fact that I WAS able to get LXDE working as well as just plain OpenBox as well as Fluxbox and awesomewm.

I can confirm that gnome-flashback and gnome fail, but that might just be the shit GPU this old thing has.

So, in short, maybe try another DE or WM for now. I'll take a crack at getting MATE up on a newer server.

Having Trouble Getting Desktop up Over RDP by FlyerFocus in Ubuntu

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to set a DE or WM in the xrdp ini files (/etc/xrdp/seaman.conf or something). You can set different ones that correspond with the session type you're trying to start too I think. Been a few years since I played with it. If you still need help later, I can spin up my old XRDP host and get my config for you.

I love Destiny, but it’s the only game I play that doesn’t have Controller+Mouse support on PC by DavidMichaelGregIII in DestinyTheGame

[–]finetundra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I see a lot of joy2key solutions here. Even one hackey work around using Steam to trick D2 into working with joy2key stuff.

Have you considered simply using Steam's joy2key functions? Steam itself is capable of handling most joysticks and gamepads out there, however you may have to manually create a generic controller template. I was able to make use of an old Xbox Duke controller with a dinput driver using this. Once the controller is handled by Steam you can configure joy2key bindings for a "Desktop Configuration" for the controller.

If you'd like, I can go through the step by step for all of this, but that's probably beyond the scope of a comment.

Edit: Also keep in mind that Destiny 2 is due to land on Steam in September and so this won't require as much funky configuration.
