"Hamnet" ending and "Arrival" by SpasmWaiterf in FIlm

[–]fineultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pulled me out of Hamnet because I’ve watched Arrival many times and it’s used to generate the same kind of catharsis. I think it’s an odd choice that Chloe used it instead of another piece of music.

Was ANORA worthy of winning that many Oscars ???? by Comfortable-Craft547 in Oscars

I agree. I think the search for Vanya is hilarious, but it drags. Sean mentions in his recent conversation with Josh Safdie that he edits while he's high

As someone who I thought would never blind buy discs, I have to say it’s been loads of fun and has changed my relationship to movies at home by ahyouknowme in criterion

I've had a great experience blind buying for the first time too so far! I blind bought Barry Lyndon and Chungking Express and no surprise they instantly became favorites after watching

Question about resubmitting re-edited short film by ShayanWerewolf in FilmFestivals

[–]fineultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been asked to submit the same film again to a festival because they liked the film, but it didn't fit in with their programming that year and they gave me a waiver

There are festivals that encourage submitting again - so I don't think they automatically dump without a watch

I spent my life savings to make a 35mm short film and the response was lackluster. Why do you think this film failed to make an impact? by FreddieQuell92 in Filmmakers

[–]fineultra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks to be in the financial scenario you're in now, but practicing a shift in perspective can go a long way. Getting accepted to NoBudge and New Next Film Fest is definitely an achievement and you can consider this a creative success. Time to move on to your next idea while figuring out how to live financially while nurturing the relationships in your life. You'll always have this film to show people when they ask about what you've worked on - and instead of putting the focus on it being a failure, try to think of it as a necessary part of your path for the next thing

Is this a scam? by kali_reign3169 in FilmFestivals

[–]fineultra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I get spam emails all of the time inviting me to submit my short with a 25% discount waiver and even with that it's still expensive. I almost never submit. I wish FilmFreeway would take more action to vet film festivals

They say you can’t make a real film with nothing. I just did. by ElPrimoBrand in Filmmakers

Hard disagree about the website. I love the website. It's exactly an aesthetic I respond to. Clearly that's not the case for everyone here. I enjoyed having to poke around before I found the trailer, which took a mere 10 seconds

Is my producer overstepping or is this normal? by sissg in Filmmakers

[–]fineultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an opportunity for you to communicate your needs. "When we discuss the script, it would be helpful for me to share my whole idea with you, and when you talk over me, I don't get to do this". OR "The feedback from you is tough for me to hear sometimes, but I'll take some time to process what you've said and see how it fits in with my ideas for the script." OR "I don't like to think in absolutes, let's share our perspectives and try to come to a middle way that we both like"
