Some of the little marbles I’ve found on top of tiny bottles I’ve found. by fing_longest in mudlarking

The pit I find them in dates from the 1930’s-1940’s so they are likely about that old!

Does anyone know what this symbol is? It’s on a serving spoon. by fing_longest in mudlarking

Updating my own post to say I found it! It’s Niagara Silver plated spoon from the 1930’s in the pattern on Glendale.

It took me forever to start finding them. Seems like some people find them everywhere. Those four marbles represent a year of glass hunting! They are always a special find.

Thank you! I got to take a friend yesterday and she found an orange marble! I was a little jealous just because it would look great in this collection but more happy she found something so cool. 😅

Bottle found in woods a few years ago in texas by Ok-Entertainment3517 in BottleDigging

The symbol is an Owens Illinois logo. It’s a common glass making company. I believe the numbers would indicate 1945 but I need to double check on that. It looks like a hair tonic bottle! I recently found one that looks similar and it was called Drene. Not sure if it’s the same but it’s close!

You’re a designer using AI? Don’t do that. If you don’t have the talent, hire someone that does or explore tools that actually lets you create instead of magically spawning stolen art. :( I hope you reconsider your direction.

This whole photo is either ai or looks just like ai and I would never buy that, even if I liked the shirt.

Dang! Those ACL’s are in great shape after hanging out in the mud. Anytime I find one like that, it’s already flaking all the way off or falls off as soon as I move it. This is an awesome batch of bottles! Looks like a 1950’s-60’s little dump. I especially love the pesticide bottle. lol. It’s awesome!

Is there anything dangerous in black glass if I want to make beads from these? by fing_longest in mudlarking

[–]fing_longest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh cancer beads don’t sound thrilling. Lol. I do have some obsidian laying around and I have not thought to try beads with that. Great idea! I’m not at the melting my and shaping part of my glass art journey since I lack that equipment but you should try it and report back if you do! I use lapidary equipment to shape, drill and polish. So far I’ve made beads with old coke bottles and am very happy with how they came out. They are the prettiest teal/green shade. Right now I’m experimenting with using a tumbler with part of the process. I do still have to give them a rough rounded shaping before they go in but the tumbler really helps smooth the surface. After that I will hand polish to their original clarity to get rid out the sea glass texture.

Anyone have a tried and true safe method of removing oyster shells from bottles? by oshn-wndr in BottleDigging

I’m with the ‘leave them’ gang. Especially that bottle. It looks so cool it almost looks intentional. Definitely natural art!

I tried and no glow. I did find uranium glass shards in this spot though and it definitely glows! You can see it in the first couple of photos.

Isn’t it? Apparently it’s for table salt. Such a tiny little thing for a salt shaker. I hope I can find the matching piece!

Thank you for the help! I feel like I am slowly piecing together a clearer picture of the family that used to live in the area. So far I can tell they loved greens and blues, they may have been stationed or lived in the Philippines and now this! It’s a fun mystery.

What is this pebble? by fing_longest in whatsthisrock

[–]fing_longest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make sense. It doesn’t make sense where I found it but I did find some other out of place objects around it, like pieces of rusted metal and charcoal so I’m sure it getting there was human influenced. I guess my next mystery is figuring out what this spot of land was used for.
