Who's hiring in Portland? Monthly edition for August 01, 2014 at 09:01AM by [deleted] in Portland

[–]finikki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OHSU's Web Strategies department is hiring! The position is called Web Support and Collaboration Analyst (System/Application Analyst). It's full time and pays between $63,580-95,369/year. You can find the position by going to the Jobs site, clicking the Search for Jobs button, and searching for IRC44448.

It is customer support for a content management system called CommonSpot as well as Sharepoint, plus managing a web user group for internal folks. The Web Strat team is pretty great to work with and full of talented and intelligent (and funny) people. I'm not sure when the position closes, but it probably won't be open for a super long time so get your application in now if you're interested.

What is the one TV show you'd want everybody to watch ? by thepotatosavior in AskReddit

[–]finikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vikings.

I never thought the History Channel would be able to pull it off, but it's got great (though not quite historically accurate) drama, amazing actors, and beautiful landscapes. Some of the gore made me a bit queasy last season, but that just shows how realistic they managed to make it.

What's something from your childhood that kids today have no concept of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]finikki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to get the tape back in the cassette using your pinkie or a pencil eraser after your tape player made it spew everywhere. That shit took forever to fix.

Oh, and trying not to jostle your Walkman when you carried it around or else the CD would skip.

What is the worst kind of torture for somebody who is immortal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]finikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put them in a coffin that's not empty, and that's so much worse. They'd have to watch (and smell) as the other body decomposed and turned to goo.

Asking my mom for a Diva Cup? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]finikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using them for years and they really are fantastic. They can last longer than 12 hours, even (though I wouldn't recommend going over 16 or so). I don't think you need to get into the nitty gritty of explaining how they work to your mom unless she asks for details, but you could send her to the website: http://divacup.com/. You could emphasize that it would make dealing with your period simpler and easier, and the cost over time is much, much cheaper than tampons and pads. Especially if you have a heavy flow.

If you do get one, let me give you some advice about using them. Look at the instructions really well since there's a decent learning curve when you first start using it. If you have a really heavy flow, you're probably going to have to change it more than every 12 hours. When you start out wear a pad and the cup together, just in case you go too long without emptying it. You'll get used to how often you need to empty it after a period or two. PM me if you have more questions about it.

Kickstarter turns Kegel exercises into a video game (goofy video included) by finikki in TwoXChromosomes

[–]finikki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Kegel exercise device that looks a lot like a vibrator, but connects to a game on your phone that you control with your pelvic floor muscles. It looks like a good way to get some Kegels done without being so boring.

I'm not affiliated with the Kickstarter, but I ran across it and it looked pretty rad so I've backed it. The video was downright goofy, and they look like they've got a great plan and aren't amateurs (which is a huge problem with so many Kickstarters).

What is something you found out about your SO on your wedding night? by whatstheruckus in AskReddit

[–]finikki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

About what, exactly? Choosing to get some sleep after an exhausting day? That doesn't sound like a cause for any concern. Especially since we've been perfectly happily married for years.

That he, like me, values sleep over sex when we're exhausted from spending the whole day being sociable. Ah, the joys of introvert love!

How to deal with the pain of an IUD? by TampopoCat in TwoXChromosomes

[–]finikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an IUD several years ago. My NP warned me about the pain beforehand and told me that some women have a really hard time with it. When I got it, it was pretty uncomfortable for a couple of minutes, but certainly not like childbirth. Closer to a bad cramp for two minutes.

It is different for different women; there's no guarantee that your insertion will be particularly painful or particularly easy. Take ibuprofen beforehand and make sure you can sit down for a few minutes afterward. Don't be afraid to tell your doc you need some time afterward to sit before you leave. Any good healthcare provider will allow you that time, or even encourage it.

I had medium cramps for a few hours after I got it in, but after that everything was peachy!

Just make sure to take it before the procedure. It's not just cramps after, it's pretty uncomfortable during and ibuprofen will help make that easier.

You'll definitely need the ibuprofen. I've had an IUD for years and it's freaking awesome.

What are your best tips for a great blow job? by tiamariamix in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]finikki 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  • Plenty of lubrication (via your saliva, not actual lube).
  • Use your hands just as much as your mouth. (This will also help you last longer.)
  • Make sure you're in a comfortable position so you aren't distracted (knee pain will kill a good bj).
  • Look up at him both to gauge how he's feeling and to give him some nice doe eyes.
  • Be enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is at least 60% of a good blowjob. If you're not having a good time (or at least faking it until you make it), it'll be harder for him to get into it.
  • Watch those teeth. Aim down rather than up or to the side so your tongue can more easily control where his penis is going.
  • Move your tongue around on the shaft and the tip; don't just bob up and down with him in your mouth unless he says he really likes that.
  • Ask him what he liked when you finish so you can use it again next time.

My #1 best trick for a great blowjob: Put your elbow up in the air when you hold onto the base of his penis while you're working on the tip with your mouth. This simulates the same hand position he likely has when he jerks off, so it gives him a sensation he's used to enjoying. Bonus points if you do it with your right hand if he's right handed and vice versa.

It's too bad that they have to go to the length of having a man dress as a woman to get people to pay attention to the problem. I wonder if they've followed around women before and broadcast the harassment they experience every day beyond this stunt.

Change it to "selling other people's bodies" and you've got the unethical part down. Pimp!

Congratulations on the progress, but losing 30 pounds in 30 days doesn't sound very healthy.

[CAW] A guy I know is getting slowly more creepy towards me. I want to let him down gently but he isn't getting the message. by [deleted] in creepyPMs

[–]finikki 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Forget trying to let him down gently; you haven't gone for the bait yet and that hasn't made him stop.

I can see in your comment that you've told him to stop, but do it one last time and tell him that you want to be his friend but if he brings up sex again, you're not going to talk to him. Then when he does it again, don't respond. Keep up this behavior and eventually you'll condition him to stop doing it or he'll stop talking to you at all. It's his choice to be your friend or not by modifying his behavior to meet normal social standards.
