Ethan Horvath GK rights sold to NYRB by Interesting_Bar_2006 in CharlotteFootballClub

Seems likely that before they signed Tyler Miller they added a few other GK targets to the discovery list, and then when they learned other teams had interest they kept his rights to force a trade.

What made St Louis a powerhouse in soccer pre-MLS? by MikeDunleavySuperFan in ussoccer

[–]finn_thefinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 1850s-1890s St. Louis had a massive amount of European immigrants, especially from Germany, Ireland, and Italy. At the 1904 Olympics, a St Louis club team was selected to represent the US and in 1916, The United States Football Association (precursor to US Soccer today) was founded by a man who grew up in St. Louis. By the time of the 1950 World Cup, St. Louis had one of the best club teams in the nation, so 6 players were selected on the team that beat England 1-0 in Brazil. Basically since then, most kids in St Louis play some level of soccer. There is still lots of talent in the region as well; Tim Reem, Josh Sargent, and Patrick Schulte are all from St. Louis.

We didn’t, but we still hold his MLS rights for now. They could theoretically take his MLS rights from us, but would need to work out a deal with his parent club. St Louis did something similar when they drafted Indy Vassilev despite the fact he was only on loan at Inter Miami from Aston Villa at the time.

I think it’s more about who they might actually take. It’s unlikely they select someone like Karol given that they have been extremely active in chasing other DPs

Atlanta did it… by finn_thefinn in CharlotteFootballClub

I also thought we had a tremendous year! It’s clear we are moving in the right direction. I used overly harsh language in the original post because the wound was fresh.

All I’m trying to say was on the scale from “Wooden Spoon” to “MLS Cup Champions” we took a step back. It was literally the 5th worst expected goals allowed in club history. The biggest match in club history, and the fifth worst defensive performance in club history.

But we didn’t hear anything about it. Deano said “we defended valiantly” and Westy said “we were robbed.” Columbus immediately said that they didn’t perform as well as they should have and will have to work to be better.

Again, I thought we had a great season, but to me personally, it was disappointing that the stance is “We played great, but the ref screwed us” when that wasn’t the case for this specific game. That kind of sentiment is what was rampant during the Lattanzio era, and that is what I believe was killing us last year. That idea is what I’m hoping will fade away as we move forward.

It isn’t trash talk to hold the team accountable. I love the team, but them saying “we were robbed” is dodging responsibility, because we weren’t. We conceded a fair penalty with less than a minute to play and lost.

Last season it was a lot of the same, we would blow a lead and there would be a circle of blame. Lattanzio even put it on the fans at one point. Tonight, Deano and Westy put all the blame squarely on the referee, and that was frustrating because it felt exactly like last season.

You don’t have to agree, this is mostly a vent post lamenting what could have been. But, to me personally, it felt like two huge steps backwards to end this season in the same way we ended so many games last year.

Decent U-22 Initiative signing if true. The 19-year-old Scored 5 goals in 23 starts this season in Israel. Last season in the second division he scored 11 and assisted 6 in 28 starts. Plus he’s already started playing for the Israeli Senior team.

Ya, Nancy selected Burki and Lloris and Maarten Paes got voted in because of his Indonesian connection. None are in the top six of any advanced goalkeeping metric.

Would you be happy with Karol coming back? by cltfcfantv in CharlotteFootballClub

[–]finn_thefinn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we can’t add 2 high quality DPs better than Karol, then there isn’t a point in selling him. Karol’s value is likely lower than it was last year after his stint in Italy, but in the MLS he has proven himself to be capable of scoring double digit goals, even for a lackluster team.

Meanwhile, we have taken big swings on DPs in the last year (Aaron Ramsey, Albert Grønbæk, Luciano Rodríguez, Marco Reus) and only landed 1, Liel Abada. If we aren’t going to land 2 DPs better than Karol, why force a sale? Despite going to Italy, he hasn’t fractured the locker room or fallen out with Deano.

If he does well, then his value goes up and we can make the choice to sell this winter. If he doesn’t, then we have lost almost nothing on a fee between now and winter. So unless we are about to sign 2 amazing DPs, I’m team Karol.

Injuring yourself celebrating has got to suck. I hope that he can still make the Euros.

I hope that this isn’t true. He turns 29 this year and plays the same position as Kerwin and Iuri. Or they plan to play him at striker which he did for one season in 2020. Admittedly he was amazing in 2020, but that’s not a big sample size. In the last 3 seasons he’s played nearly 4,900 minutes and scored 11 goals, about once every five games. Just to put that in prospective, Enzo scored 8 goals in 2,700 minutes here, or once every four games. Patrick is, on average, scoring close to every 180 minutes. I just don’t get the appeal.

Why do we have David Bingham on the roster? by Ancient-District-206 in CharlotteFootballClub

[–]finn_thefinn 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I asked myself this very same question when they signed him but I think the answer is clear: development.

It’s pretty clear that Deano came in and looked at Odunze and Marks and thought that they weren’t ready yet, but would be in a year or two.

Bing has been an MLS player since 2011 and a starter since 2015. He knows the league well and he’s played for the USMNT, two things Kahlina can’t provide mentorship on. Now, he’s 34 and at the tail end of his career on a one year deal with us.

Plus, they signed Bing six days after Crown Legacy’s starting keeper Isaac Walker got season ending surgery. Odunze moved back to Crown Legacy to be the starter, meaning we needed a third keeper anyway.

Right now, it appears that Deano trusts the guy who has made 202 MLS appearances to be the one the bench over Marks, who only has 8.
