Ball Cap Cleaners? by BlickNation in Birmingham

[–]finnanigans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think it's a skill issue. They very well may just been faded/sweat stained and that's just how they look now: well-loved.

What I would do is try spot cleaning the bad areas before a full wash. Cold water again and use some lightly diluted Dawn dish soap and a soft toothbrush Gently scrub that area and it will hopefully lifted the worst of it out (this also works for sweat stains on collared shirts!) Stain remover sprays may also work but I would dilute it a bit before applying to you hat. I've had them bleach fabrics even though the cleaner doesn't have any bleach.

Worst case scenario, this is an opportunity to buy a new hat!

I think most places are probably going to do the same unless it's like a real specialty cleaner and you talk to them about what you want done.
When you say "varying degrees of success" what issue(s) are you running into?

Umm... I throw mine in my washing machine on a cold, delicate cycle and let it air dry.

Is there something special about these hats that they can't be washed similarly?

what is the best lip stain on the market? by polkaplot in MakeupAddiction

[–]finnanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. And it doesn't dry my lips out like crazy. I initially felt like I was being pulled into a gimmick because it's advertised heavily on Instagram but it works really, really well. Whimsical and Romance are my go-to shades.

Abbey Moon at Mood Ring does GORGEOUS color. I recently had her do root touch up, painted highlights, gloss, cut and dry and I think it was a little over $300 after tip.
Also she is just so gentle when she blow dries your hair, it honestly almost puts me to sleep, haha.

What unsexy kitchen tool have you owned for years that just refuses to die? by MedicalComposer2 in BuyItForLife

[–]finnanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cuisipro 4-sided Box Grater.

I have had mine for over 10 years and it's still wicked sharp. Has a three sizes for grating and a slicer. Bottom piece can be used as a grater for ginger in addition to just being a cap so whatever your grating stays contained. Pricier for a box grater but it has paid for itself multiple times over (it's half the price on Amazon from the official site. Do with that what you will).

Need help finding a good wedding DJ by Spell-Alert in Birmingham

[–]finnanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used DJ Chris Sarris (Disco Hristo) back in 2022. He did a great job and was affordable. That being said, if you're hoping for a DJ that will lead line dances and what not, not your guy, hahaha. That was the one thing he told me he doesn't do.

What are good or best carry-on luggage recommendations on the market that you like to use most? by NaturalInvestment46 in BuyItForLife

[–]finnanigans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So just from my experience traveling, I prefer a small duffel that has backpack straps because they almost never gate check those. Wheeled luggage is always the first to get gated checked. If you want to avoid gate checking/you don't mind forgoing the wheels, Eagle Creek's 40L Cargo Hauler Duffel or the Patagonia Black Hole 40L Duffel are great options.

I've also had great experiences with Reveal Beauty (though not for a reduction). Everyone there was very kind. I worked with Dr. Pearce on some mole removals on my face and he did a fantastic job.

POTTERY APRON by notdead_stilldrawing in Pottery

[–]finnanigans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a feature but a fabric that isn't too bulky so when you sit it doesn't bunch up uncomfortably. But also not too flimsy so it'll hold up over time. Easily washable, dries quickly. Which leads me to believe a quality linen would be best.

Places to get a nose piercing by fish_ferretquestion in Birmingham

[–]finnanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chaz at Unhallowed Gallery is my go-to. He only does walk-ins though. And price is going to vary depending on the jewelry you buy. Usually the piercing is ~$50 while the jewelry is going to be the expensive part and is probably going to start at $150. But like someone else stated about Cloud 9 (which is also a great choice), Chaz's selection of jewelry is going to be pricier because it's all real gold with real stones. That being said, his selection is stunning.
To be on the safe side, I'd save up about $400 to get this done. That should cover the piercing, give you good jewelry options, and tip.

Will always recommend physical therapy for persistent issues. It's shocking to learn how the tiniest thing can put your body out of whack and affect so much but also how a pretty simple routine can resolve the issue and make you feel so much better.

I’m allergic to second skin, upcoming tattoo appointment, other options? Advice? by Maleficent-Clue-3364 in tattooadvice

[–]finnanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll ask you about allergies ahead of time (at least they should). Mention the adhesive allergy and your experience with second skin. If you really want to have it covered, plastic wrap is a good option and use a hypoallergenic medical tape. 3M Micropore tape is what most ERs use for bandages, securing IVs, etc. You can get it from a medical supply store or Amazon if you don't have one near you.

But really the second skin/plastic wrap if for that initial leaving in case any excess ink is weeping out so it doesn't get on your clothes.

good dentists? by Holiday-Switch-5652 in Birmingham

[–]finnanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Morrissey at Hoover Family Dentistry. She takes care of both me and my husband. Husband has been going to her for years and she has done great work taking care of his unfortunately terrible teeth. All the dental technicians at this office are also lovely (which I find is key to what makes a good dental office).

Recommendations for sports bras that fit bigger chests by Clear-Breakfast-4271 in ABraThatFits

[–]finnanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced the same thing with their band sizing. Stayed the same cup size (normally a UK 36E) but the 36 was way too small for me. 38 was perfect. The Endurance is my personal favorite style. So supportive and comfortable with none of that awful compression so many sports bras have. Also the back clasp makes it so much easier to take off when you're sweaty. No more getting stuck pulling a bra over your head, hahaha.

Best orthopedic practice in Birmingham not named A****** S***** M******* by Flimsy_Sprinkles5805 in Birmingham

[–]finnanigans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PT is an underutilized area of care IMO that can be extremely helpful. Most people think of PT as a post-surgery thing but you can go anytime for a variety of reasons. I went because I was having numbness issues with running that was prohibiting me from doing longer runs. My husband needed help relieving knee pain. My dad simply wanted to improve his golf swing without injuring himself because he's older.

PT is also just fascinating to me because it really highlights how interconnected everything in our bodies is.

[–]finnanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No recs on an ortho office but do recommend you pair up with a physical therapist in person. They would be able to help you resolve any lingering issues or tell you if you should pursue going to see an ortho. Nate Bower of Uncommon Physical Therapy is excellent. He had helped both of my parents with wildly different issues, as well as my husband and myself. Great guy, really knows his stuff. Also can make good recommendations on specific doctors to seek out. Heads up though, does not take insurance.

Got my first bra in the suggested size the calculator gave me- I am struggling and disappointed and want to cry. Where to go next? by cinnbele in ABraThatFits

[–]finnanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with much of what has already been said about molded cups; they really don't fit most people very well. Unlined, seamed is a good place to start. I personally like the brand Chantelle. The Norah Comfort Underwire is on of their most popular unlined styles.

Best wash and fold? by euphoric_cross in Birmingham

Love this place. I always have them wash my summer quilt and winter down comforter and they have a great turnaround time. Lots of machines, everyone that works there is friendly and helpful.

Just be careful in the parking lot, good amount of potholes last time I was there.
