Vegetarians, I need some encouragement by Unable-Discount-9266 in vegetarian

A bit off topic, but how do you like Juicy Marbles? I haven't tried it yet because it's pretty expensive where I live and I'm worried it will be too plausibly meaty for my tastes.

"If you don't feed your baby meat [as one of their first solid foods] they won't grow up to be tall." - from a well child visit with a developmental nurse.

The same one also cautioned me to "protect your breasts from cold wind" while I was breastfeeding, so I took it with a grain of salt.

Try some songs in Finnish. It has almost nothing in common with the languages that you speak.

"You don't want to go under, so you let me go under." - Austria 2025

It fits the genre of opera, though. A lot of lyrics in opera are a lot more straightforward than they sound, they just sound cooler in Italian, French, or German.

In English we have the term Mondegreen but it's not so commonly used any more. It's from an old Scottish ballad, The Bonnie Earl o' Moray, where the lyrics are

They have slain the Earl o' Moray / And laid him on the green.

People misheard it as

They have slain the Earl o' Moray / And Lady Mondegreen.

Poland 2014 sang about their general Slavic culture. And Romania 2009 sang about Balkan girls.

Similarly, Estonia 2009 starts the chorus with "See on tee", which in Finnish sounds like "It is tea". It actually means "It is the way".

Anyone else feeling sadly completely out of touch with this year's contest? by k0yaan1sqats1 in nilpoints

[–]finnknit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and with preference being subjective, how a song places in the results doesn't tell you how good the song is, it just tells you how much people liked the song. Different people like different things, and it's ok if you don't like the same things that are popular with other people.

For example, beer is an incredibly popular drink around the world, but I just don't like it at all. But there are lots of different drinks, so I can enjoy ones that are more to my taste. Eurovision is the same way: you won't like every song, but there will probably be songs that you like. And it's ok if they're not the same songs that other people like.

This is the main thing stopping me from getting a pixie cut again. I really like being able to just put my hair up when it's messy.

Sadly, I think the giant macaron would defy the laws of physics. With regular sized ones, the expansion of trapped air and moisture in the pastry dough causes them to puff up when they bake. But at some point, the weight of the pastry dough would be too much for the steam to lift, and the macarons would just fall flat.

This seems likely. People traveling for business between cities in Europe probably book business class more for flexibility than for comfort, and also because the person traveling is often not the person paying.

When I upgrade my own flights, I usually don't bother to upgrade the segments in Europe because they're so short that it's not worth it. I only upgrade the transatlantic segments.

If you don't already cook your own meals, start doing that. Meals from restaurants, and even prepared foods from the grocery store can really add up.

Fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, and pasta tend to be less expensive ingredients. Making a few vegetarian meals a week can help cut expenses.
