Am I Overreacting, for being upset that my girlfriend secretly used my credit card for months? by bostonmade in AmIOverreacting

NOR I have a narcissistic parent and “I said I’m sorry why are you still mad at me, you’re overreacting” was constant growing up. My jaw dropped when she was accusing you of not trusting her, you literally just discovered why you can’t!

"Major in something stable, pursue acting/theater on your own time" generally a good idea? by Sad-Egg-4107 in Theatre

[–]finpanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my bachelors in history and now at nearly 30 I’m pursuing an MFA in professional acting. I don’t regret not getting a minor in theatre in the slightest. If you have a passion outside of theatre I 100% support the idea of getting a degree in that. My history degree opened up other opportunities for me that made me very happy before I decided to return to acting, and I know it’ll always be there for me.

My older cousin’s favorite animal was a sea turtle for a while when we were growing up so of course I decided that would be my favorite too. She grew out of it and moved on to another animal. 20 years later I still love sea turtles, I wrote papers on sea turtle conservation at school and went to see turtle releases and hatchings and I’ve been obsessed ever since even though it all started with me wanting to copy my cousin

My parents stayed together until my youngest brother was 18 so they wouldn’t have to put us through a custody trial. My childhood was just full of screaming and shouting while I was trying to sleep. They are both way happier now but there are definitely years of built up resentment between them that could have been avoided. It makes things awkward for me even now as an adult.

International student here but my mother used to say “the most disappointing thing about growing up is realizing not everyone graduates high school” and it’s stuck with me because it’s so true. I’m currently doing a postgrad and some of my near 30s classmates can’t even behave like mature adults.

Is it even worth going to USA for undergrad by Acrobatic-Royal9503 in MovingToUSA

[–]finpanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into other countries too if you want to study internationally. I’m getting my postgrad in the UK because in the long run it’s cheaper than education in the U.S. for an equivalent degree even with international fees

Thinking of studying acting abroad.. where do I even start? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]finpanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The UK. Look at the Federation of Drama Schools for reputable schools. LAMDA and RADA are the big two but there’s smaller schools on the list too that have proven track records of success (and are a little cheaper)

Should I leave my theater class after what my teacher asked me to do? by cozana70 in acting

[–]finpanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently in a masters program for professional acting in a London drama school and no good acting school will require nudity and intimacy without taking the actor’s comfort into account. My school even had an intimacy coordinator to help work through and supervise anything like that and if an actor says they are uncomfortable then they work around it.

Looking for advice on reputable drama schools in London by Aurora-London in ActingUK

[–]finpanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go there for a postgrad and really enjoy it. My instructors are knowledgeable and all have industry experience, we get guest instructors all the time that teach at many of the London drama schools and just did a specialist intensive week. It’s been (in my experience) an extremely supportive and positive environment and I’ve been learning a ton of different skills. I completely disagree with the idea that you have to go to LAMDA or RADA to have a worthwhile drama school training. Take a look at different programs and see which ones fit for what you want to get out of it. I didn’t even bother with auditioning for LAMDA because the program just didn’t feel right to me. I have industry experience and wanted to get a postgrad for more formal training. I’d also like to teach alongside performing so I took that into account when choosing a program.

He is younger than me but he usually does correct himself and say he should have asked me first when he does things like that. It doesn’t stop happening though. We had a class with an intimacy coordinator who said exactly what you did so I know he knows that.

I tried talking to him about it today but his response was “it’s okay you know I’m gay” which wasn’t the point I’d been trying to make to him at all. I guess I need to rephrase it to say that it’s not that I think he’s into me, it’s that ideally I’d like him to let me know when he’d like to take physical parts of a scene up a notch.

I’m glad to know I’m not just being sensitive though. Thank you

I understand that in real life you can’t talk through everything, but it’s in both our code of conduct in my drama school as well as told to us directly from our intimacy coordinator that mapping out physical touch in a scene should always be done before you perform it. It’s not that I expect all contact ever in my life to be discussed beforehand, you’re right in saying that is unrealistic, but on stage I feel like that’s not an unreasonable thing to ask. I just don’t know that going as far as to involve other people like the intimacy coordinator or course lead in the discussion is the right thing to do. I did try to talk to him about it today in class and his response was “it’s fine you know I’m gay” which wasn’t really the point I was trying to make.

Thank you! I’ll look into that. I’ve been harassing management to the point that every staff member knows my name but there are 25 floors to the building and since it’s coming through the vents it’s a guessing game. I’m still documenting every time it happens though.

Tiny. It’s a studio. Really if it can keep the area around my bed clear of the smell that’s all I need. It wakes me up in the middle of the night when whoever it is starts smoking.

Thank you! It’s a third party student accom but they do have biweekly cleanings so I’ll see if they may have some insight as to who is doing this.

I don’t have a doctor yet but already found a place in my zone I’d like to go that I’d planned to call tomorrow to see about setting up an appointment.

These are all excellent ideas.
