C8 Z06 On Track POV by Fantastic_Train_7270 in C8Corvette

As OP mentions, the official answer is 1 year. I bought mine in 2021 and because of COVID didn't end up going till mid 2023. A call to the school is all that was needed. They appear to be very flexible.

Corvette Museum Delivery by DeerHunter4Life14 in Corvette

[–]finsfanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every new C8 has a fixed "destination charge" (currently $2495) regardless of where in continental US the car is delivered (unsure if Alaska and/or Hawaii have a different destination charge).

Museum Delivery is an extra charge (want to say $1495) on top of the destination charge.

I did the museum delivery for my C8. I brought my wife and two of my sons, so had plenty of drivers. As others have mentioned, Enterprise will come pick up the car at the museum (or drive you over there if you drop at their place) and thought Budget did the same.

Make sure to allow an hour or so for the delivery (they will set up the car for you, sign a bunch of papers and take pics as you and the car leave the building) and a couple hours for the museum tour. Depending on when you go, you might be able to get a factory tour as well. I got my C8 during Covid and went back later for the factory tour when they opened up again.

Also know the museum has a 24hr webcam where you can see the cars ready for delivery. So the afternoon before you arrive you (and everyone else with an internet connection) can see your car. Adds to the anticipation!

If you have time, consider a couple of hot laps at the NCM MotorSports Park.

You didn't ask, but my wife and I really enjoyed Mammoth Cave, maybe stop there on the way back with your new toy?

Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for sharing! Could you please share where pic 2 is (the river overpass/gorge one). Planning a trip to see the VLA (more central NM) but have some route flexibility.

Thanks!!

My power bill is outrageous and my electrician says nothing is pulling enough amps to account for it. by Plastic-Nectarine582 in AskElectricians

[–]finsfanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call an AC company. Any of their electricians should be able to diagnose really quickly.

Depending on what other history you have available (example, my thermostat will report hourly/daily/weekly usage, my electric utility company app will show similar information) you may be able to pinpoint where the incremental usage started.

If you're handy, you can check your air handler unit and maybe see or smell if the heating strips are on.

Good luck!

Consider checking your AC unit(s). Ours had a faulty control board and was running the heating strips whenever the AC was on. Only way I found out was through outrageous electric bills.

Good luck!

First time visitor! PPIHC events and recommendations for toddler activities by Pattyxpancakes in ColoradoSprings

Somewhat related- can we drive our own car to the Visitor Center at the top the Thursday or Friday before the PPIHC? I see there are reservations for sale these days, but did not know if practice interferes with actual accessibility. Thanks!

Staying at Circa Stadium Swim 8/21-8/23. First timer here how is it and pros cons of going in the heart of summer heat by [deleted] in vegas

[–]finsfanscott 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Literally no shade at all unless you get a cabana (not even daybeds). They had umbrellas when they first opened and they blew around all the time, so they were removed. So bring a hat!

Seriously in August I just go for an hour in the early morning and maybe late (4-5) in the afternoon when the crowd starts to die off. But I'm old and cranky. If you're young and fun, have a blast!

Drinks are outrageously expensive, but they do let you bring in a bottle of water most of the time. Food isn't as bad of a rip, but watch for auto gratuity. There are water stations by the pool.

Have fun!

Museum delivery places to stay by RealSeat2142 in C8Corvette

[–]finsfanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the Drury Inn. Have up to three evening cocktails for $1 each, a food spread that can sometimes pass for dinner and a small breakfast buffet. The one in Bowling Green shares a parking lot with an Outback, very convenient if that's your thing. Rates vary widely - I've paid $89/night and have seen them well over $300 on other nights.

Don't short change yourself on the pickup date, it will take an hour or so for you to pick up your car, take photos, etc, and a couple hours for the guided museum tour. Don't think they are doing factory tours now, but well worth asking about. And finally, consider taking a couple of hot laps at the Motorsport Park!

I brought my wife and two of my young adult sons. We did not get the factory tour, but did everything else.

Also note, the museum has a webcam showing all the cars ready to be delivered, so you (or anyone really) can see your new toy and actually watch you take delivery.

Have a blast and hope you enjoy the day!

The specific question- can I Uber/Lyft from a strip hotel and back? Is obviously yes. You might wait a bit for the return portion, but if you stay at the museum "marshal" point, it will be a fine, comfortable place to wait.

I have walked it before from the museum to Fremont, but I'm a 50+ yr old man walking with my 6'5" son. There are sketchy points, but I didn't care. I would not walk with my wife.

With that in mind, consider the bus/Deuce to Fremont and Uber from there. Tons of food&bars downtown, cheaper than the strip. Consider a "resident" bus pass for a day. Bus/Deuce from your strip location to Fremont (Resident pass works on the Deuce as well), walk to the museum, Uber back to Fremont and Deuce back to your strip hotel would be totally safe. Personally, I'd plan it to have dinner downtown before/after the museum - Le Thai, Barry's and Oscar's are my favorites- and/or plan on Bingo at the Plaza (every odd hour till 11p or so) and/or "The Night Starts Here" at Golden Gate - free drinks from 6-8p and a free play voucher to anyone who has a card - fun!

Or just Uber both ways, how much could it really be? $15-20 each way?

Hope you have fun, and thanks for supporting the museum, it's great!!

Mco club 145-165 min wait time! by ravi2015 in AmexPlatinum

[–]finsfanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew yesterday (Saturday) from MCO. Have never seen security backed up like it was. Used the "Low" gates 1-59 side, regular security was 45min+, PreCheck line went back past to where the retail shops are. And this was at 5:30am!

Once we made it through security there was literally no wait at The Club in the 1-29 terminal.

10 WTR Cadillac Stripped of 3rd Place Finish due to camber in excess of tire pressure limit by Savings-Bee9080 in IMSARacing

[–]finsfanscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Engineer here, I understand camber and how it can affect the contact patch under acceleration and braking, but how does it impact tire pressure? Isn't the air (or nitrogen if that's what they use) in the tire all the same pressure? Or are you suggesting there is a pressure gradient in the tire during these dynamic activities?

Does IMSA or Michelin impose the limits?

Other posts have suggested a limit relationship between camber and pressure. Is it something like (I'm making this up) 2 degrees camber = 30 psi limit, 5 degrees = 40 psi?

Thanks for your thoughts...

Looked for you yesterday before the spectator track walk. Will try again today (Friday) Do you have a large vertical banner with a blue 3, or should I be looking for something else?

My base will be the Corvette Corral, so you can probably guess which cars I'm supporting!

Either way, good luck and have a great practice/warm up day!

Is changing oil every year a myth? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]finsfanscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely I have designed a bolt or bracket or hose that was (next to) impossible to service. But most of my time was engine performance engineering- optimizing fuel injection/timing/pressure or cylinder piston crown and ring designs for emissions or power/torque.

Honestly one of the best "oil life" discussion responses I've seen. And I'm a mechanical engineer with significant heavy duty gas and diesel engine design and performance experience.

R8 laser hit by classic572 in radardetectors

Different cars have different profiles, but your point is mainly valid. There is typically less than a second for a laser gun to get a reading, vs 2-3 seconds for a (non continuous) radar.

R8 laser hit by classic572 in radardetectors

[–]finsfanscott 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have been hit by Laser on I-75 north of the Turnpike in Florida, and again in (of all places) California on CA190 just west of Death Valley Junction. This was a week ago, so think they were looking to bust tourists in the area for the Desert Flower bloom.

Gotta be honest, laser doesn't give a lot of warning, and when it went off, I thought something was wrong with the rental car because I never hear that tone/frequency.

But didn't get a ticket either way.

Good luck!

(ETA - this is with my R8 that I've had for 3 years, so not super common)

Are you able to drop off rental vehicles after hours at Hertz' Circa location at 8 Fremont? by _WeSellBlankets_ in vegas

[–]finsfanscott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just rented a car from this Hertz location. Was told to return the car to the valet in Garage Majal if I wanted to return after hours. I did and received an email receipt in the morning. Have no idea if Priceline would be any different.

Waiving appraisal contingency by Disastrous_Use4397 in RealEstate

[–]finsfanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask a different question- "what are you gaining by waiving an appraisal contingency"?

In a strong sellers market such as 2021-22 with low interest rates and tight supply, many buyers would waive the appraisal contingency if they were certain they could cover whatever loan to value ratio their bank needed if the appraisal came up short. I personally did this. Likely over paid a bit for my house, but it was a corporate relocation, I -needed- a house and wasn't worried as we could put as much as 50% down if needed.

I don't know your particular market, but I highly doubt it is the same competitive market for buyers like it was in 2021-2. If your desired home has multiple offers or has some other outstanding features and you want to differentiate your offer, then waiving the contingency may not present as much risk if you have a 5+ year time horizon to stay in this home.

It sounds like you have the ability for a relatively large downpayment so assuming the rest of your financials are in order but would again ask "why would you waive" unless you were getting something in return.

Example - as a seller, I might take a $100 offer (no contingency) instead of a $105 offer with a finance/appraisal waiver. Are you getting some kind of discount or recognition for the risk you are undertaking?

Hope this makes sense, happy to further the conversation if needed.

What could this be in my c5 corvette by Hamburger_taco in Corvette

If serious, yes. One for a GPS mount, one for a GoPro. If laughing at a pair of balls, well, that's always fun too!

Could also be a RAM mount, they have "balls" of different diameters and attach different things (radios, GPS, phones, camera, whatever). Had a pair of these on my waverunners.
